Doubtful. There's a reasonable chance that this is SOS's last gig as a List Manager and while I was less than impressed with some of the crap that went on during his time with our club, let's give him some credit here, he's no idiot.
If someone bids earlier than we rate them, (for example, Ben @4), you wish them luck and select your preferred option and go on with your day.
We should be like Hawks and let it be known we won't be matching bids in top 20 or whatever - assuming it's consistent with where they are rated by the industry.

The most frustrating part about this is that Austin and Co. have probably been working towards this for the last 2 trade periods - doing deals that would help us bank late picks and have enough points for the twins. Likewise for the Suns.

If they think change is needed it makes sense, but they can't blindside clubs that have been planning and making trades for this year's draft. All clubs, not just us, definitely need notice about a massive change like this IMO.
1. There's no way a policy can force a club to have to 'live trade' up during the draft to get a certain pick. They can only ensure you use the picks you already have and not trade back.
2. There's no way a rule can stop us using a pick when it's our selection for anyone we like. No-one knows where bids will come for certain players or if anyone will bid at all.

100% I reckon SOS bids wherever Stinkilda’s pick is. His hate for us runs deep. Just my thoughts.
He knows we’ll match. Then he’ll prob bid on the other. Just to be a you know what….

We wont match St Kildas bid if its at pick 3 or 4 and it would be a big risk for SOS to bid that high, we need to have a limit and stick to it.

Agree highly doubt this change will be implemented for another 1-2 years.
Lucas is not close to a 1st round pick right now, so the article is quite misleading in that respect.
Ben is still late 1st round at best also.

As much as they are good prospects, l don't see either addressing the current gaps on our list.

Agree - I'd be staggered if someone bid on Ben in the top 10. They look like they might be good handy players but not a top 10 standard.

Sos is a dick but he won't bid that early on Ben with the talent of mids early.
If he had another pick in the early teens he would.

Talk that Lions willing to trade their first pick (currently 6) so it doesn't get chewed up to match bid for Ashcroft.
Would we trade our first this year as pick 6 (assuming that is where it stays) will come before any bids on Campo, whereas no guarantee that our natural first will? We'll likely have to cough up next years first too.

I wouldn't do it unless there's an A1 talent available there.

With Tas coming in we need to try to maximise our young gun ranks.

Then again, we probably won't be picking at the top end for a while, so moving up to 6 might be looked upon favourably.

I just don't want to trade out of next year's 1st round.

I'm normally a big advocate of trading up for the shiny toys in the top 10 but as it stands I don't think theres a huge difference between the top 10 and top 20 or so prospects. May be one of those years where it's better to have 3 picks inside 30 rather than a single top 10 pick.

I swear this was the same chat that happened early last year and then it changed as the season progressed, if it’s not as highly rated as you suggest, perhaps the cost to trade up wouldn’t be so great.

I like the idea of trading up, but not that much

I think this year I'd still prefer to be at the pointy end, too many dart throws later in the draft.

Ben Camporeale and Lucas Camporeale continuing to churn out good performances at whatever level they play at.
Against the Allies, Ben (186cm) had 27 disposals and five clearances playing on the ball, while Lucas (185cm) finished with 23 disposals and six intercepts playing more behind the footy.

The twins are father-son eligible to Carlton as their dad is Blues premiership player and All-Australian Scott Camporeale. Ben is considered by most scouts as a first-round prospect, while Lucas is more likely to attract a bid later in the national draft, at this stage.

Bradley continues to impress from last week. So far my favourite small forward in the draft. Really good smarts to go with electric speed and agility. Wouldn't be surprised to see him work into the top 25 by years end.

Joe Berry for mine, smart football, one touch and great kicking skills.
