At the height of islamophobia in the wake of the 911 attacks, the Blues man mascot was a muslim.
I heard him speak about how he was basically hated 6 days per week, then was cheered by tens of thousands on one day on the weekend. It was quite the juxtaposition.

It's discussing that people would treat him in that manner, but it could've been worse, he could've been an Umpire. Who are naturally hated everyday by everyone.

I remember going to a St Kilda home v Carlton in the 00s where they have Molly Meldeum and another so called Saints icon (IIRC) Michael Roberts a lap of honour before the game simply for being cultural icons.

Although the irony amused me years later.

What do St Kilda and Molly have in common ?

Both have difficulty climbing up ladders

St Kilda fans have no right to throw stones at any other club or its supporters.
