UPDATES on two Blues leading into Round 24 …


Cooper Lord (concussion)

• Modified program
• Unavailable for selection this week
• Entered concussion protocols during Saturday’s win over Port Adelaide

Lachie Fogarty (ankle)

• Modified program
• Unavailable for selection
• Has been unable to train after experiencing a rolled ankle in Saturday’s win over Port Adelaide

Sad sad new. I wish him all the best with recovery, however, it’s probably career ending as he will be returning as a 33 year old. Time to blood the next HBF, come on down Cowan, Wilson or Lucas.

Newman is a good player and it's a shame to have him miss the season. The good aspects of this is that it was done preseason so we can fill this spot I believe. The other thing is that we have excellent depth in this area. I haven't named Wilson, Cowan or Boyd in my best 22. The door opens there for someone to step in, most likely Cowan and it could very well be the making of him. Docherty is also the other name who could go back to defence.

This injury should not be a reason we don't have success to our full potential in 2025 but gee it's a bugger!

I wonder if Doc goes back now. I know we have several options but we need a youth/experience balance back there. Not just from a playing perspective but in terms of organisation. Newman and Weiters are our main generals.

Doc back. Binns gets a wing spot for mine. Holland's and Cowan already defenders in my 22.

Otherwise spot goes to Boyd or Wilson. I'd prefer Binns in the 22 at this stage to reward his stand-out preseason (providing he backs it up in the practice games)

Maybe you have a different idea of the word "tweak". A best 22 player goes down. Some form of tweaking will occur

That being said, just wish we didn’t even have to have that conversation. Would be nice to start the 25’ season with an injury list you could on one hand.

How many other 20+ possession, midsize, great defending and elite ball using players do we have?

Technically everyone can be covered, but it doesn’t change the fact that it will be a monumental downgrade.

Apart from KPDs each backman would have other specific roles, especially that footy is now about defensive zones

Then you would have roles for players like kick outs, distributing, more defensive, more attacking, positioning, etc
