I thought Fantasia was solid last season. His output compared favourably to Durdin / Motlop / etc. but the worry for him was that he looked like he'd lost his pace. Hopefully he can go to another level this season with an extended injury-free run.
He seemed to get better towards the end of the season, but in the first 8 or so games his output was well below par.

There was a 7 game patch between R1- R10, where he only managed 48 disposals, 2 goals and 9 I50s. This poor run of form was not up to scratch and is probably what frustrated supporters.

You mean when he was coming back from a long term injury and only just getting match fit?

That’s the point.

The senior team isn’t the place for players to be given 10 weeks to get over LTIs and get match fit. That’s what the reserves are for.

i agree with you broadly but the cupboard was pretty bare at times, not many listed players fit enough to take on the role.

Sounds like I'm defending Fantasia - when in reality I was probably frustrated he wasn't dropped more last year. The only issue with looking at his stats in isolation is you're not comparing him against the guys who were supposed to be pushing him out of his spot - who I would say are Durdin and Motlop.

Motlop 7 games for 54 disposals. 6 goals.
Durdin 14 games for 82. 7 goals.
Fantasia 15 games 127. 9 goals.

None of them setting the world on fire.

When playing that high small forward role in the Voss setup they must look at other things besides just avg disposals to evaluate performance.

I'm a big fan of Motlop though. He's the one who could actually become more of a stay home forward like Williams did for most of last year.

You’re right Motlop and Durdin didn’t have a great year due to injury, and by default Fantasia got games when he was struggling with match fitness.

His best game was against the tigers when he kicked 4 goals and there were glimpses of skill execution in most games, but he couldn’t get involved for long enough.

He’s physically in a much better place now than he was 12 months ago and I’m looking forward to seeing him get more involved for longer periods in games and having an impact.

Badly need one of our smalls to have a huge year up forward. I'm really hoping that its Jesse - he has so many fans and tools at his disposal. We need him to become a 30+ goal forward and bring x-factor.

Agreed, but I'd say we need 2, non tall forwards to have huge years

If Motop is on a flyer, he would attract a club's best stopper, let's say that's a Starcevich at the Lions

If, another small/medium forward is creating havoc, then it becomes more difficult for the opposition and leads to our other forwards having more space

If one of our smalls start making a major impact it will force opposition defenders to actually have to worry about someone other than Harry and Charlie which in turn leads to more opportunity for them. Countless times our smalls are just witches hats and the big two get double and triple teamed with our smalls opponents getting involved way too much.

Need them all chiming in when it’s their turn; CC, H >> ZW, Motlop, Kemp, EH, Moir, Cotters, Fog, OF, WW, FTT.
Space & a functioning system need to be found.

Then the midfielders/rucks hitting the scoreboard too.

Providing we lower our eyes like we did late last year then I think we have plenty of cattle up forward to create plenty of headaches and maybe even catch teams off guard.

Let's say Kemp and H are our staples without Charlie, then we sprinkle in a mix of Motts, Williams, Evans, Fanta, Lij and Cotts then there's plenty of run, movement and goal scoring ability to get us over the line.

We need two to blow up and kick 25 to 40 each

Moir and Motlop, or Williams

This will be evidence that we are moving the ball better and applying forward pressure

Good call Matty
