Whilst I agree that I think he could be effective, I also think we need Cox if we continue to hold it up to wait until we've got the forwards in place and I think we'll continue with that to stop us getting burnt badly in transition. Someone has to give way.
Cox will be just like doing the same thing over again. I reckon we need to persist with Membrey for a little while yet. I don't think Cox is available this week anyway

The same thing has worked the last few years when Cox has been fit.

When the defence is set, I think we've got to go with slow entries to a pack and Coxy makes us more dangerous in that situation - both in that contest, creating more dangerous spills and in follow up stoppages inside forward 50.

Good intercept defenders have been having a field day against us for years. What concerns me is that Cox was there for most of those years and it didn't make a difference. I just see it as a case of rinse and repeat. Membrey gives us a point of difference that we haven't had for a while. The whole side was bad and I don't think Membrey was any worse. He has to be given another chance, especially at the G this week

“It didn’t make a difference” - Premiership 18 months ago. People underestimate the value of Cox.

I just think our biggest problem is slow ball movement atm which makes it hard for our forwards to make space. At the same time, it's forcing us to dump kick inside 50 to contests

True but at the same time we had to play a really close checking tall on Andrews because we were worried about Andrews. I'm not sure Cox had much of a GF anyway. It was a multitude of different things that won us the flag.

We need more fast breaks than we had against GWS, but teams will continue to get numbers back meaning long to a pack is the only option other than the realy dangerous spot up short in the middle of congestion - they come racing back when you don't get it right.

It's a tough selection, I'd have Coxy in though and at the moment Tim is probably last in line of the other 3. I doubt we'll hav them all fit at once that often, so the depth is important.

The problem for Membrey is that he is a smaller, less mobile version of Mihocek. We don't need two of that kind of player in the side at the same time. It is worth considering playing Frampton as a negator when we have to deal with a player like Taylor. This makes Membrey doubly superfluous. He was a good pickup as cover for Mihocek. I don't like the look of the forwards when they are both there.

Based on how persistent coaches are to keep flogging the dead horse that is playing players in positions where their best attributes aren't being utilised for more than 80% of the time, they will persist with Jaicos on hb and if they drop WHE like some brain dead monkeys in here suggest instead of putting him on the wing where he can actually shine, I might snap and storm the AIA Centre.

So based on that, Collingwood security should be on high alert Sunday morning, Port by at least 40 points.

None of them are young and they all play physically - probably don't need to worry about who to leave out until we have all four fit - how often will it be?

On Membrey. On a number of occasions he made great runs and found space but was burnt on the lead.
That intellect and experience is invaluable- once the team get more accustomed to looking for him then he will make a huge difference up forward.
You can’t buy his smarts.
Yeah good points. I’ve probably gone a bit early there and have seen much less of him than many here so I’m happy to defer to wiser heads👍.
He kicks accurately too.
Edit:
Hopefully we see a big improvement in pressure and tackling effectiveness this week which will benefit everyone.

Problem is the 3 slowies can run out the game. Something we were in short supply of against GWS. Hawks and GWS are two teams we'll struggle to run with and will have to beat convincingly in other ways.
This thought occurred to me as well post match. It had me wondering whether it was more about training loads or drafting? My guess is list composition which would mean a mixture of both. We haven’t drafted and developed enough runners and we can’t get the off season loads in because we have so many veterans. **** knows how we counter it early season because we aren’t good enough in other areas to mask that extreme deficiency.

Ordinarily you’d say stoppage and territory allowing us to setup our defensive grid. We saw that on Sunday for the majority of the third quarter and we ended up losing that one. The real frustration was that we were horrible in some areas (pressure, execution and ability to cover the ground) yet if any of those three were better probably lead at 3/4 time. You then look at the scoreboard and were blown out because of a 6 goal to 2 final quarter.

Allan starting should help. A lot is going to depend on how healthy Nick is.
We need him at 100% for the whole game to beat Port.

We've drafted runners. That's all we took about 3 drafts in a row. Unfortunately none have kicked on yet.
