So a 32 year old, 222 gamer and premiership winning forward beats a 21 year old, 36 gamer ( 2nd game as a defender)

Shock horror! Who would expect that [emoji849]

I don’t even think the “beat him” is accurate.

I think I feel a lot more comfortable with Wilkie playing deep in defence over Caminiti right now.

Although from the TV they seem to be playing identical roles at the moment, I'm not sure there's such thing as a true full back and centre half back. Just depends on the match ups and where they end up.

Yes roles will vary depending on opponents and fow of the game.

If we can get all of Wiklie, Dougal and Caminiti in the one backline that sets us up very well.

Caminiti is a very good mark. Dougal is a very good spoiler and so hence more suited to being the FB. Caminiti to basically take Battle's former spot even if he will not play it the same way.

Cainiti also has a bit of mongrel in him.

Webster Howard Caminiti
Sincs Wilkie Nas

is a very well balanced defense. Good offensively and defensively.

Lynch kicked one goal… one. He didn’t beat anyone lmao.

From a soft very loose arm around the body free kick when LOC was knocked out. Easily could have been zero.

edit. perhaps it's the full frontal assault that the umps can't compute for Michito. They look for a jumper coming a mm away from the body so can't calculate the head high shots.

Mansell stiff to get three for the LOC incident.
Sure that action needs to be stamped out, however LOC was going in that direction.

Seen many worse let go. Lalor got a broken jaw, Chito did a shoulder.

MRO and tribunal put in the position of having to cover for the umpires. They are so focused on the minimal they miss the major. Start paying frees for it and coaches will make their players stop doing it.

Those wins refer to our upcoming games. PA, GWS, Foots, Bris, Freo, …

before last night, I didn’t see us pinching one of those.

Now, after the euphoria of the big win has settled a tad, (it will still carry me this week), can I see us realistically winning any of those games? It wouldn’t surprise me if we pinched a few, especially if big Max comes back in fine form.

But I have to check myself. Last night there I was gushing about NAS, and fair enough, but realistically

NAS
media and us (me too) are hyping him up to ridiculous levels. We ought to calm down. The media will hype him for the snaowball effect, more speculation, more news, more opportunities to trap him in a lie in car park interviews. Let’s remember he is still raw, and still turning over the ball a lot.

Caminiti
So we all get excited and think we’ve found our new man! Really? Did you see him last night easily get beaten in contests with Lynch? I did. I think he has a long long way to go. Doogs is still ten times the key defender. As a key defender I think Hammer and Cordy are close, right now. Hammer has time on his side.

Hall/Garcia/Hastie
Promising but not bonafide starters in any competitive AFL firsts team yet

Butler
I don’t think he is either.

In summary, we really beat up on Richmond in that second half, and it looked like our boys were just playing with them at times. They literally fell apart. But that won’t happen again, this year, ever, I would guess. We are really up against it in the next five weeks, and looking at the first half last night, we are still a long way off it.

Just remember all that for the next time they put in a stinker.

And that will be a day for melting. Right now I like them. Let me have my week of unrealistically high expectations.

Lyon is the dream coach for an inconsistent small forward wanting to become A grade. He turned Milne into an elite player, Walters and Ballantyne into a A grade players, and Higgins has played the best footy of his career the last 2 years.

There is no better coach for Collard than RTB.

Steven Milne was already a gun when Lyon arrived.

Aye aye captain.

Great win Saints.

Probably 8 players who would be pushing for best 23 to come back.

Quite a few of them will have to earn it! With so many newbies contributing.

It's a nice place to be.

Ross Lyon is in his 16th season and has never coached a bottom 2 finish. And only gone bottom 4 once.

Yet many people thought we'd be bottom 4- just proves they weren't paying attention to history.

I'm not sure how long this vein of form will last, but the first half vs Geelong and 2nd half vs Richmond were amazing (regardless of the quality of the opposition). I'm really enjoying it.

Bizarre that so many incidents have happened this year.

By who?

Mansells push did nothing, O’Connell was going to make that attempt regardless. It’s crazy that the AFL want to ban him for 3 matches for that.

Actually not quite true.

LOC is in movement, approaching that marking attempt, so has forward momentum.
Mansell is behind him.
There is an active push forward by Mansell at this point.

So, dunno about you, but say you are in movement, running to whatever, from behind your SO straight shoves you in the back, are you;
  • Keeping the same gravitational movement, same spring in step same erected posture same step
  • Stumbling forward but otherwise still remaining standing into a continued run.
  • Stumbling and falling forward to faceplant.
  • If in the process of launching to a jump, which way is your movement heading and how are you bracing?

So to say Mansell did "nothing" is the same reason why a push in the back is a free against in any situation where it is noticed; as the person doing the pushing can completely F up the other persons momentum and straight screw them as "I only gave them a shove, how was I know adding force from behind when person moving forward means they arrive earlier? I'm not a scientist to understand WTF it means to be human and general physics as one.".

This is also why it was brought in with the Porp decided "I'm running next to you, let's just shove your face into my friends shoulder" that people might not want to do such a thing as it could be dangerous.... fair to day Lynch and Hammer running at you might constitute a dangerous situation for an uncontrolled flight.

As an aside; LOC makes that contest in normal situation, probably still gets poleaxed as Lynch is a flog that DGAF, Mansell does nothing cause he's already given it up and this was a shove to say FU as well so LOC didn't impact said attempt meaningfully.

Since LOC was KO'd, that is what makes it 3 weeks as grading system, so the man only his own squibbing and inability to make a contest thus throwing a tanty to blame.

I don’t think his push had any effect on his momentum, he still was able to get in position for the ball, but gets wiped out by Lynch. If his momentum changed from that push, he did a great job of masking it

I’ve been critical of our current and future midfield pretty much every chance I get but one thing I’m liking is the bunch of HF’s we’re putting together. Higgins, Butler, Hall, Collard, Henry and Wilson is an awesome collection. Don’t try and find room for them just play them all. It might sound crazy but I put HF’s almost as high on importance as midfielders these days (case in point: Geelong) because all of the good teams have them and they play a critical role. Collard hit the post but players who can make that type of play is something we’ve desperately needed for years.

Garcia had 7 disposals in the first what? 10 minutes? Super exciting.

Good last couple of weeks but the next four games are brutal. If we split them we’ve done well.

Some thoughts finally catching the replay.

I didn't realise how big Travaglia is. Sure he's a lanky kid at the moment but doesn't seem like it's stopping him! Should grow into his body over the next few years... thought he looked taller than 187 would have said 190ish. Either way.

Garcia is a ball of energy and what's that saying...he zigs when others zag. Thinks a bit differently and is unpredictable. Gret signs that he's getting so many touches. Seems to 'purple patch' and get a bunch of touches in not long and then go missing. He reminds me of Acres in a lot of ways. Probably less good overhead, but a lot quicker and a better kick.

Nas is exciting. Yes he misses a couple kicks a game but he's got 'it'. The Pendles factor. And they've clearly told him to take his chances and don't worry if he misses one every now and then. That might need to change later on but right now he's only 60 games in and gawd its fun to see him becoming elite.

Coops is just so freaking reliable in front of goal. It's nice. Him and Max should make a pretty formidable duo.

Fantastic to see Mitchy get some reward. Absolute animal at the ball and man.

Hill has always been cream...hopefully he can keep it up and snag a goal every now and then.

Max Hall looked like he belonged too, super neat kick.

Sincs, Wilkie, Macrae, Marshall....enough has been said about them but jeez all value pick ups!
