Autopsy 2025 AFL Round 3: Saints thrash Tigers

I wonder what happened to make Cornes so bitter towards us.
Just texted in about supposed “youth” of Tigers in comparison to us.
100 to 1 they don’t read it out.

yep Disagree with Caminiti beaten by Lynch a couple of times but held that full back position very well -miles ahead of Cordy and maybe behind Doogs but has found his spot in my opinion
Agree. Lynch had 7 touches and 1 goal. He did more against Weitering in round 1 than Caminiti in round 3. Caminiti stuck close and spoiled on multiple occasions. Showing promise back there.

The "midfield" Isn't a ruck, a ruck rover, a rover and mid any more. It's got the two classic wings and now it has the high half forwards and attacking HBs.

So much of modern footy is scoring off turn over now. There is set plays to get the ball to go back inside 50 from defensive turnover. It's usually the easiest way to score because the opposition is spread out for an attack and left vulnerable behind the ball.

Our HB attack is elite and Wilkie and Webster are both excellent kicks and hit up the next link in the chain which allows us to move fast. Guys like Wilson, Hill, Wood, Jones and Byrnes are link men in that chain.
Turnover drills are practiced time and again at training.
They get it in the hands of a backman, to NWM or Sincs or Arie, and then try to move it as quickly as possible forward.
All teams know how we want to play. Richmond tried in the first half, keeping the ball off us as much as possible.

Our style comes to the forefront when pressure drops and fatigue kicks in. That's where our aerobic training kicks in. We are 4th qtr specialists, usually running over the opposition, but also even when we are gassed we can defend like v Geelong.

Further to Joffaboy's last point, last year on average we were better offensively AND defensively in every subsequent quarter.

Saturday went perfectly to plan. The fitness and strategic plan for the club is to be in games at half time and run over teams in the second half.

Thought Geelong were contenders

The tweet is a bit badly worded, he's saying what happens when Richmond face the real contenders seeing as they just got blown off the park by us and Port.

Cornes was saying he doesn't rate us or Port so if we win again this week don't expect any love from him.

Geelong had more than enough chances to win that game.

I wouldn’t credit us to highly for how we held up in that last quarter.

I understand the point but that game is likely a loss in the same situation ie same level of youth playing for us. Gassed. Injuries mid game etc.

Big win on the night. But plenty to work on from that. As the boss says, they put as through an audit and you would have to think how we dealt with the pressure in the last and our ability ball in hand has to improve.

That headline, "Imagine what happens when they face the real contenders" was referring to the tigers.
They flogged all the experts number one contender Carlton.
Saints and Port must have been just lucky to fall over the line.

Sure, but when it comes at the expense of the fabric of the game - I don’t think it’s worth doing. Neutering the game to make it safe, will make it no longer Aussie rules.

Meh, I think that's overblown. You could say the same about banning the flick pass or adding the centre square. It's definitely not the same game it was 100 years ago but that doesn't mean it's not Aussie Rules.

It’s overblown today, but the next rule change for safety won’t be the last one.

At what point do we say the game is inherently unsafe, and shouldn’t be played full stop? That’s the only way to prevent injuries.

I thought that was a pretty dog act by Mansell. Pushed him into oncoming traffic, I can see why they want that out of the game. Of course there'll always be collisions and concussions but they want to get rid of the avoidable ones and that seems very avoidable.

There was always a form of protection in the decades gone by because a pack would form. So you would always roughly know what is around you.

The game these days are about space. And getting players into that space. So you can be absolutely steamrolled if you are caught blindsided.

The push that we are seeing now is very dangerous. Players have always pushed - Milney did it plenty. But I don’t recall the amount of players getting pushed into oncoming traffic like they are now.

I'm not sure what your point actually is. For as long as the game has been played players almost always pushed opponents away from, or out of, a contest. The recent trend that is being addressed here is to stop players pushing opponents into one, thereby significantly increasing the risk that player is going to be hurt.

Players will always run into contests and that is their decision, both how to win the contest and to protect themself at the same time. Both of those decisions are taken away from a player who is shoved into a space he didn't intend to be.

What is being said is that these actions are inherently unsafe and should not be part of our game. It is not about stopping an action that has always been part of our game because it hasn't been until recently.

Yes Irish was running with the flight of the ball, but the push was unnecessary and who knows what affect it truly had on his balance and therefore, the outcome. Be it careless, intentional or some other grey area, it definitely was unnecessary and it put him at risk. If anyone needs any more proof of his guilt, watch Mansell just slowly walk away from the area... he knew what he did...

What annoys me is that I've watched the slow motion replay 20 times and I still for the life of me cannot figure out what Lynch's left hand is doing down there in a marking contest up high... the more I look at it, the more I think Lynch the sniper knew exactly what he was doing there and its another cheap shot gone unpunished.

It's interesting isn't it. He doesn't try and hide it. He makes it quite obvious. Even when he's wrong about us he finds another angle to twist the knife.

King knows and chuckles when Kane is talking about us. Really wished King brought up Macrae this morning, but he didn't. They were going to bring Macrae up with Cornes on AFL Nation yesterday, but Kane was that late getting on air they ran out of time.
