Just under 10 minutes until the official worldwide direct from Nintendo about the long awaited Switch 2 Console and all the specs and other details (such as release date, cost etc)

One game that we know for certain to be announced at the launch is Mario Kart 9.

Not gonna lie, very excited, this feels like Christmas Eve as a kid lol

Mario Kart World, the Gamecube added to NSO and Donkey Kong Bananza are the three titles that immediately excited me the most

The system designers at Nintendolife certainly have listened to all the criticisms of the performance of the original Switch

Was going to wait till Christmas to buy it but now hoping to get it as soon as the release date.

That was proper hype,

3D DK is things dreams are made of and makes up for no new 3D Mario.

Mario Kart World looks incredible. Cannot wait to hurl abuse against mates when we play online. Also BOATS!

New Mario Party add ons is welcome and like you can just buy the upgrade. Nothing tests me and my gfs relationship than a round of Party.

Good to see Silksong is alive, the From Software title was a welcome surprise. Even that Vanquish looking game looked fun. As did the wheelchair Rocket League thing. Very hyped for Metroid Prime 4 too.

All in all, very happy and will be ordering for day 1. June release super closer than I thought too.

Those game prices. 😂 **** off Nintendo.

A paid tech demo. 😂 **** off Nintendo

Massive lol at only one nintendo launch title.

Lol at every other game being a remake or port.

Lol at their shitty camera.

Lol at their clunky mouse feature.

I like the look of what I'm seeing. I love Mario Kart so it alone is enough to sell me, and this one looks really good. DK looks great. I also haven't jumped into this gen yet so there's a few ports that interest me. But oh boy that's more expensive than I thought it would be. Game prices are wild.

It'll be at least a month before I can get one anyway, what do we think stock will be like then?

whats your issue?

genuine question
Well firstly we’re are all the actual Donkey Kong staples? Other than Donkey Kong who has been horrible redesigned there was jo other returning Donkey Long character. No Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, Dixie Kong, Cranky Kong or King K. Rool.

Really disappointing Nintendo aren’t using King K. as the villain of the next DK game after all the demand for his smash inclusion.

The gameplay other than the barrels and that one 2D section didn’t look anything like a DK game either. You could slap on any character to this trailer and they wouldn’t look out of place.

Was it a bit too much ask for the next Donkey Kong game to have look like a Donkey Kong game and have Donkey Kong characters returning to it?

I get your point but as you mentioned, there's a 2D section in there that looks pretty 1:1 from Donkey Kong Country and in one screenshot there's one of the Beavers from that game.

Nintendo have also just spent a shitload launching Donkey Kong theme park worlds that feature Diddy in heaps of places, as well as Rambi. And the Mario movie had an unusually large role for Cranky Kong, and had cameos of Diddy, Dixie and Chunky of all characters.

I don't think they're looking to drop the stuff from the Country (+64) games any time soon. I'd wager the other Kongs are there somewhere.

K Rool is less likely but there's a crocodile enemy in the game so maybe the Kremlings have a role - as you said Nintendo obviously knows there's demand for them based on Smash.

I think the gameplay looks fun. Leans into DK as a big old ape. I'm pretty certain the precision platforming / timing elements of the barrel cannons, minecarts and probably rope swinging will return.

I like what I'm seeing.

Console price is higher than I expected. Game price is exact same as what everyone else has started doing. Writing was on the wall when a game like Ratchet and Clank released for $120 and Zelda was what? 80-90? 10 dolllars more than other Switch games?

It will be a rude awakening when GTA 6 comes out, lol I pray they don’t charge more than $120.

That section is a nice homage but the rest of the game advertised looks nothing like that.

I want a Donkey Kong that looks like Donkey Kong not a different completely different game with a key jangling Easter egg here and there.

Just great. Wish they put the same effort in there new 3D game.

That theme park was planed from around 2015 though. Nintendo are 10 years off that decision.

I think if they wanted to keep the country brand the 3D platfomer would have revolved around that style.

I couldn’t see that croc anywhere in the trailer after a couple of rewatches. If they had a role I doubt they’d be hidden.

Maybe Nintendo are trying to drip feed us and will reveal it later but that just seems like copium.

Well I hope you enjoy it then.

On subsequent rewatches the game looks more like Mario Odyssey another game I didn’t enjoy so I’ll be giving this one a miss.

This is true (I reckon it's the exact same team) and Mario Odyssey had a bunch of new elements but still felt like a Mario game and I reckon this will too.

If it's not for you oh well, that's life.

yeah I was going to say that game looks like Mario Odyssey but with DK. which is exactly what you would expect in 2025. all these games now look like they use basically the same engine and have similar accessibility so they aren't too intimidating or dissimilar to each other. it's just to appeal to the widest audience possible.

my kid is going to love that. he plays Odyssey and loves DK, it's perfect. that's how I think now, I think that's how Nintendo thinks now, it's not really about us who are over 30 (to put it politely) anymore, although I think they did a good job appealing to all ages within the same games in the Switch gen.

all I am personally interested in is collecting the Gamecube controller for collector's sake, and playing Kirby Air Riders for sure because Sakurai is legend and everyone is going to go mental for that game.

The concern with this is Nintendo's lower RRP has always been balanced by the fact they never do deep sales... If they are changing strategy and these expensive games will now start getting 50% sales after 12 months then it is sensible, but if they're not....

FYI the console is only around 340 USD in Japan. Whether the higher price around the world is due to a certain countries imposed tariffs or other things like Nintendo purposely dropping the price in Japan only to dominate the market, we don’t know.
