Maynard is only 28. Depends when we think we are in challenge mode. If next year and the few following that he should be good for 4 or 5 years. Starcevich might want cash over playing in WA. Can only ask the question.

I'd argue Macrae is more for leadership purposes and helping us remain competitive short term as our younger mids develop. We seem pretty confident that we'll have a replacement for him when he retires. If he's still best 22 when we are contending then that seems a bonus

If you can, you bring in players that make you better. Bergman, Aleer, Tdk and worpel make us better. You do it if you can

I never said he wasnt good and and didnt make us better. I just think the main reason we got him was so he could mentor the kids, aware that he likely won't win a premiership with us

I think we could easily do a 2024 Hawthorn next year, but theres a difference between prelims and winning a premiership. The kids probably need finals experience before we can say that we are a genuine chance for a premiership ahead of the likes or Brisbane, GWS, Sydney, Adelaide etc.

Be a kick in the dick trying to attract players when we can’t even get our house in order. I was happy to lose Battle for pick 8 but losing Nas basically signals to the comp we’re not serious.

If we don't win the ball out of the middle, the rest of our players don't learn what to do when we win the ball out of the middle. They simply learn to lose.

If he is costing a first I guess it comes down to where we finish. If we make the 8 in this compromised draft our first could go out to around pick 20 which could be about right for Bergman. If it's around the pick we got for Battle then that's big overs I think. Will be an interesting watch that's for sure, maybe he just re-signs and gets to free agency.

I know he’s young, but Harley Reid does nothing for me.

Opposition clubs believe Melbourne can create a market for star on-ballers Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver if they decide to trade them at the end of the season despite their lengthy multimillion-dollar contracts.

Petracca is contracted until 2029 on a deal well over $1 million per season while Oliver signed a contract in 2022 that ties him to the club until 2030. Oliver’s deal was reportedly worth $7 million for the life of the contract.

Bergman maybe only after these, if required.

Agree with this, but you keep insisting we 'let Battle go'. Did no such thing. We were outsmarted and outplayed by Hawthorn. The president has openly acknowledged this and has made substantial changes for the gameday experience for players families.
Battle required player lost. That's why I am so nervous about NAZ. He is more required than Battle and the club is desperate to keep him.
So a worst case scenario is we lose Battle then the following year we lose perhaps the most talented player on our list since Riewoldt.

Couple that with the perception we are throwing huge money at FA's. It would be a disaster to land a FA for 1.7 and not be able to land NAZ.
Until the signature is on the dotted line, I will be concerned.
As far as Bergman, I agree, not where we are skinny.
However the whole Maj Jong table is flipped and tiles are all over the floor in regards to trading if NAZ doesn't sign.

The first two are free agents. No draft capital required.
