But I totally understand not replaying the Nash/Miers incident on the big screen as it resulted in injury and they seemed to have made a conscious effort to not replay footage of those situations

It reminded me of our round 1 clash with Collingwood back in 2023 when Howe flew for a mark but badly broke his arm on landing - as soon as it was realised he was seriously injured, the big screens switched off coverage to the sponsor logo or similar

That's one decision I appreciate them making and think it's a more professional way of handling those situations

I'm struggling to understand how it could be any form of 'accidental' or 'careless'.

Miers was handballing. Nash swung a round arm that comfortably missed the ball, arms and shoulders but caught Miers flush across the face in a classic horizontal coathangar.

On each replay I don't see Miers dropping his body position either. Nash missed the ball by a clear 300+ mm, and nor did his arm hit Miers face on an upward angle. At the moment of impact his arm was near perfectly horizontal to the ground.

Blaming umpires for winning and losing has always been a cop out for me.
If your team executes better they wouldn’t lose.

To a point. But bad umpiring, if it's also one sided, turns your assignment from merely being better than the other team to win, to having to be three goals better than them just to break even. And I don't think that's fair.

I missed what people describe as his poor early work but on what I saw I'm a but confused by the criticism. He's drawing multiple defenders.

Have been critical of our forwards this year. In particular Stengle, Neale and Henry.
But I must say given there was Battle, Barrass and Weddle in their defence I can't fault the endeavour of Neale today.

Presented down the line, took some marks at key times and had the competitive drive of a cats player for the intercept that led to the sealer from Mannagh. You can have a slow day on the scoreboard but you need to still impact the game and he did that.

As for Ollie, he needs to learn quick how to get involved now that Danger is taking his role and his space.
Another non-competitive performance from him and if he were to be dropped on Thursday I wouldn't argue with the decision. He's not immune from a stint at the Bankers.

I think it was Cam Mooney who said Bomber once told him "If you're not having a Good Day, at least make sure it's not a Bad Day".

Obviously meaning that if it's just not going your way for whatever reason, you can at least find some way to impact. Even if it's just making a contest or sticking a tackle, or setting up a goal for someone else. You may not get the big stats but you've done SOMETHING to help the team.

At the moment, this seems like the difference between Neale and O Henry. A couple of times now, Neale has been very quiet, but has had a solid last quarter with some clutch moments. You can tell he'll at least never stop trying to get some input in there. Henry seems to really lose all touch and confidence if he can't get some good clean ball early.

It's difficult to reconcile the reports on BigFooty before his first game (completely cooked, bone on bone, emergency option only etc) with seeing him running around and moving better than he has for years. Classic Stanley, really - keeps you guessing.

And that also goes to a point that thegerman has made across multiple review/autopsy threads in that we're often seeing Neale being double teamed with Cameron's man dropping off him to outnumber our #33. So this is where we need Cameron, Dangerfield or Henry when up forward to better impose themselves or at least engage with their direct opponent and not allow Neale to be double teamed as often as we're seeing

Lot of feedback about how Hawthorn lost the game on social media etc.
For all the talk about their Innacuracy, we missed just as many and got the win without one of our most important players.

The moment Miers went down, personally, I felt that would be game as Miers has been one of our barometers in the second half of matches.

This is a really interesting interchange bench for us at the end - surprised to see O'Connor spend the last 10 minutes on the bench when you think he's the type of player you could use to lock down around the contest along with Atkins






This was Hawthorn's bench to end the game - Breust had been subbed off so he wasn't an option, but interesting to see both Barrass & Nash spend that long on the bench at the end, especially with the number of interchanges they had left
