ANZAC Day vs Welcome to Country

People ought be much more offended by performative acknowledgements of Country for political purposes then they are by culturally respectful sharings of tradition.

I had a real issue with Albanese performing it for an applause that he knew was coming tonight. Didn't feel that respectful, felt like it was intended to get a cheer to get his speech off on a high note.

Not saying he shouldn't have done an acknowledgement - obviously he should've - but he didn't need to perform it.
What do you mean by "perform it". You've said he should have done an acknowledgement, which he did. I am not sure how one might distinguish between what he said and any other way of giving an acknowledgement.

Both Penny Wong and Anthony Albanese's acknowledgement of government were a slap down to the racists in the Liberal party, who, inspired by neo-Nazis, thought they were on the ascendancy. The only Aboriginal people to be offended would be less than a handful of really horrible people like Jacinta Price.

Jacinta Price was so cooked last night she said Labor were rigging the vote in indigenous communities.

So you can’t do an AOC/WTC because people will boo, you can’t do one because people will give it rapturous applause…..

I notice he added a few words at the end that he acknowledges traditional owners today and every day……

A sign he (and the nation) won’t bow into the pressure from the right. Also the 3 flags will remain.

This is a glorious day for Australia. The racist dickheads have been shown they are a noisy minority and are not reflective of our inclusive nation.

What rubbish, put up or shut up and see where it ends up. Will comfortably be like the voice.
No one voted as a referendum on welcome to country.

I look forward to many more years of ignoring it

And the more we have people like you, the more relevant it all becomes so thank you. Thank you for playing your part in showing the rest of Australia why a Welcome and Acknowledgment is so important. It is the racist minority that really hammers home the importance.

It’s not racist to think it’s over done and irrelevant to most people…
It’s no different to complaining the anthems over played at events.

Would prior infractions for racism be relevant to most people though?

It definitely shows that you were too ignorant and lazy to bother learning what they're about and what significance they hold.

Or I’ve seen them at different things and at around the 5th or 6th time of hearing it at the same place completely tune out especially about being told that even though I’m born here the place im born isn’t mine as much as the next person… ..

This is where your bald-faced racism shows. No one has ever once told you that.

So you're offended about something that has literally never happened.

Just read a great book, really recommend it to all:

It shows how the Anzac “legend” and the defence of the White Australia Policy are too intertwined to be erased from modern thought. The neo Nazis at the Shrine were condemned for shouting “the Anzacs fought for a white Australia” but that is actually correct, racism and white pride was a major factor in recruiting soldiers, justifying why they were being sent to war and rallying the nation behind the cause.

It’s an uncomfortable truth this nation refuses to speak of
