Autopsy Round 8, 2025: Positives and Negatives vs Melbourne

So, Reid isnt in the best condition. We know this, we have known this since November when he came back from break.

There is no point constantly rehashing this. Whats done is done.

The way the train and load during the season means there is almost zero chance he can get his conditioning up to scratch during this season. Getting injured in the preseason really didn't help either.

He will need a massive preseason, maybe even a couple to rectify. Balls in his (and the club to help him) court now.

But continually bringing it up as a point to shit on the guy (who is 19 an made a pretty big blue) is getting tedious.

Positives

  • Hewett
  • Ginbey
  • Waterman

Negatives

  • Flynns last ever game for the club. He doesnt have AFL level fitness at all. Blew up after qtr time. Id delist early along with Harry Barnett :(
  • Huthinson isnt a midfielder... he is a half forward....
  • Owies cant play half forward... he can only play forward pocket....
  • Brockman is lazy, disinterested with a low football IQ. Has to go into the WAFL and learn the midfield
  • Tim Kelly
  • Hough looks lost in the midfield.. Still persist though
  • Bakers disposal
  • Hunts inability to pick up a football
  • Reids continued poor form
  • Bo Allans disposal

A 100% reset is needed of where our players play and how we play... and its Round 8 :(

It’s just the juxtaposition with the doubts of him wanting to be at the eagles that makes it sting for fans I think.

Flynn just came up against the best ruckman in the comp, Barnett is still developing. The rest of your analysis yes i agree

Ginbey is a warrior. Hewett might be the most talented player on our list. Both are absolute studs - they’ll play in a lot of wins for us once we remember how to do that
Wasn’t there a lot of BS about how foolish the recruiters were to split that pick?

Flynn put in the worst game ive seen. Id have put Jack Williams in there after half time and left Flynn to not ruck anymore myself. He was toast

Ross Lyon would have the courage to do a move like that. Mini needs to find it

How funny is it having Simmo in the commentary box telling us how bad we are, knowing full well we paid him out and he's still getting his salary for 2025 along with what Channel 7 and Fox Footy is paying him.

Utterly shameless in his approach, was cryptically making excuses when topics like development came up that only he could have had some control over.

He owes sheed a lifetime of credits otherwise he'd be a more articulate Ken Hinkley. A complete failure of a coach pointing to finishing in the upper echelons of the ladder then losing big finals as his crowning glory.

The thing I don’t like at all is the mental application, there’s just no thought or desire, just 20 blokes running around hoping the ball finds them.

Things Im talking about are Graham giving up on a chase minutes after half time break, Oscar Allen losing touch with Baylor fritsch because he got put off balance by a guy he’s giving up 8cm and 10kg to and not one of our players even trying to pin arms in a tackle all night. Duggans weak one arm effort to open the game allowing petracca to win the ball and kick a goal.

Just don’t understand how after seeing this season to date you’d be committing to guys like owies, cole and kelly over young talent. If the young talent is gassed at half time and has no further impact on the match they’ll still have a greater impact than those three have in a full game.

A bit of positivity from our younger players but it’s just business as usual for the senior crowd

Flynn did come up against possibly the best ruckmen but I was surprised by his lack of physicality at centre bounces. I thought with all else failing Flynn would have crashed into Gawn thus hoping for a neutral ball.

And around the ground Gawn was killing us, but this was partly because we would just repeatedly kick it in his direction and he’d mark fairly easily.

He had an excellent game but part of that is down to us playing into his hands. We didn’t pay him the respect he deserved.

If being a 'failure' as a coach is winning a flag, I'm sure he'll be happy being named such.

Also in that passage of play Oscar really threw himself in - he competed extremely hard all night and while he wasn't perfect it was the first time this year he's actually looked like he was playing with resolve, good to see.
Yeah not perfect but like Hough he’s adapting to a new role. And his experience - especially if Gov is out - will be invaluable. Persevere.

-Reid, like every player should be dropped if he cant pull his weight. Don't reward poor habits/culture.
He's not there yet, but I certainly would make it known (privately) that he's not as good as he thinks he is.

-A. Reid's 10 week ankle injury out of nowhere and then finishing the game 🤔
-Bo Allan nowhere near it. The coaches must not watch the WAFL. When's the last time a debutant got serious weeks from the MRP?
-Brockman is a crab
-Kelly is cooked. Just give him a mental health week off or something.
-Gov dead again
-Owies should be riding horses at Fleminton

  • Hunts goal from the pocket was a gem
  • Hewett making an impact is good to see, this should be his base level week in week out from now on.
  • Ginbey had a good day outside of about a 5 minute period.
  • Maric has found a good role. Once we run to good areas and open up a bit of space- look out

I think our midfield getting smacked up means we have to rob other areas of the ground and play out of position or short. Simmo figured this out and McQualter is just cottoning on now and doing similar things.

Good God the Simmo haters are out in force.
Move on guys, you are stuck in the past and it is not helping.
Nothing you say will change the past, we have plenty of other people you can spit your vitriol at.

Stuck in the past 😂 when the bloke who led us into the darkness is there literally the next season telling us how to fix things and what's gone wrong.

Nobody is saying it's entirely his fault but good god have some self awareness man, just **** off to Melbourne for a few years and once we are on the up he would be welcomed back with open arms.
