Great game pies. Unlucky in the end and the rundown was epic. My first reaction was holding the ball. Thought kings comments after the game were a bit unprofessional but Mcraes press was class.
And credit your all pretty chill and level headed on here compared to after the Hawks game boards 🤣. They hate us more , trust me.

Hawks hate everyone - goes with the arrogance DNA

How's Jack Crisp after that one?
"Well we just celebrated the incredible 245 games in a row just in the rooms with his family. Gave him the match ball and spoke glowingly of his contribution to our football club [which] is amazing. I've said this before, sometimes when you lose you want to be winners, and I reckon sometimes when you win you can be a loser. I've said that for many years now. When he misses that kick, just have a look at the response of our team. It's a testament to the character and culture we have that we get around Jack. Straight away, there was just a group of players around him. I think we looked like winners regardless of what the scoreboard said".
How did you see the game as a whole with it being a seesawing contest?
"The paint's still wet, but geez they're hard to play against. They're a challenging team. They're really well coached, Chris [Scott] has done an incredible job and I know Nigel Lappin, my mate, he's very good at what he does down there. They're really difficult to play against. It was a bit of rope and dope stuff. We had a lot of territory, we win the inside 50 battle, we win in clearances early. They started really well and we expected that. They tend to play like when you play basketball they do a lot of layups. They've got so much speed in their game, they get you back and then they just beat you on the other side. They're really hard to play against. It's well drilled good team that is hard to stop".
You get 20 points up in the third quarter and it felt like the game would break open, is it one that got away?
"It's actually an interesting question because I thought if he [Crisp] kicked it, did we steal it? We owned a lot of the numbers throughout the night, but like you said we were 20 points up and within some control of the territory of the game and again a lot of the numbers were green for most of it. Good teams find ways and they found a way to crawl their way back at times and we made a couple of errors along there as you do. Good teams make you pay and then with 4 minutes to go and 17 odd points down and then we go a little bit into our method to try and win the game to give ourselves a chance".
There were several interesting moments in the finish with Bobby Hill's rundown and Lachie Schultz's shot at goal, do you have any commentary around that? Is there anything that leaves you a bit miffed?
"No, if I'm going to be a winner here then I don't act like a loser. The decisions are the decisions. I thought Bobby was probably a bit stiff. I saw the replay, I saw it live. He did fall to his knees, but I still think he's probably a bit stiff on that one. What was the other one?"
Lachie Schultz's shot at goal?
"That's a difficult one isn't it? The rules are the rules. I think it was touched and then it was inconclusive, so it's a point. Do I love that? Not really. It didn't decide the game. We still had a chance with the ball on our hands with the siren going to win the game. I thought we had other chances to win the game so it seemed like a little bit of a couple of things didn't go our way late, but it wasn't the reason why we lost".
What did you make of Patrick Dangerfield's last quarter?
"Well, I stole his park before the game and he wasn't happy and I blame myself. He's a bloody good player isn't he? He's a battering ram. We had 20 missed tackles or broken tackles, I think it was 15 and he was most of them. He just beelines you and runs through you. He's been an incredible player and right now he's just an igniter isn't he? You need big players to stand up in big moments and he was fantastic tonight".
What did you think of Nick Daicos dealing with Oisin Mullin's tag as he seemed to take away some of Nick's influence?
"Yeah, he [Mullin] did a great job. It's hard to stop Nick and we tried to move him into places where he would have influence in the game, and we kept trying those things to disrupt them at times. He did a good job young Mullins. He's only new to the game isn't he, Irish lad. It's just what happens now when you become this player like he goes to work on the player he's going to play against. He knows he has to outrun some of them. He has to outsmart some others. This is all just a part of his learning and growing to be the player he is".
What did you feel you learnt about your group tonight?
"I just said to the boys afterward; Dan Houston, Tim Membrey, Harry Perryman, actually Harry Perryman was fantastic tonight. That's the best game he's played for our club. He had 11 odd intercept marks or intercept possessions. He was fantastic; give him a shout. I said to them that it's 'nice to know, you've got a team that plays to the last second' and it didn't pay us back tonight but it's nice to know it's still there. We probably learned that our spirit and fight is there for everyone else to see. Didn't quite get it done, but as I said, we weren't good enough for long enough. I think we learned that tonight".
Was Dan Houston just cramping in the end with the hamstring?
"Yeah, Dan [Houston] had cramp at the end. He should be right for next week, 5-day break".
Jeremy Howe was managed, is that something you will see more of this year with other players given the age of your team?
"We've been a bit deliberate in that. We'll pick our team according to that. 5-day breaks are hard. What time is it? We got to get on a plane in 3 days time. Every team has to do it, so it's a challenge. You got to think ahead, but you have to stay in the moment but you got to plan for the 5-days with the travel to Perth, so we've been doing that. Some guys game time tonight and if you look deeper you'll see that we've been looking after a couple and then none of our emergencies played in the VFL and Howie was managed".
How much does a six game winning streak allow you to manage players more than what you might have if you were under more pressure to win?
"I'd like to think we've got an eye on the season as an entirety. This is a marathon and we're just finding our way through the race at the moment. Playing some really good teams. I think it's Round 8 and have a look at our draw? Played some great teams and learnt some great lessons and we are sort of banking on our experience and then finding ways to look after some at times whether it's training or games. The draw somewhat forces us to manage a bit more than what we potentially have early, but we got to be deliberate on that".

1. We are 6-2 with the hardest draw so far.
2. We lost to a top 4 contender by 3pts and clearly had our chances to win.
3. We are yet to play any of eagles, north or rich like most clubs

the boys are having a great season

Bang on.

We need to cash in on those bottom teams.

The umpire adjudication was it was an illegal tackle, as it was not made above the knees.

All the stills and pictures are irrelevant if they are not from the angle that the field umpire was from.

That is part of the problems with the mass coverage we now have...it doesn't matter what the TV showed, it is what the controlling umpire saw.l that is important.
LOL Amateur hour. Isn't it then why we have ARC.... to make correct decisions at important moments?

If a f&$king boundary umpire can overrule a goal umpire from a worse position.... why can't ARC overrule the field umpire from a better perspective?

Oh I know why.... because ARC couldn't interpret what not touching the ball as it sails through the goal looks like!!!! :)

Let's face it.... it was either well scripted or all umpires on duty on the night were incompetent from the goal / field / boundary and ARC. Pick one.

Sitting through a replay because I was at the game and even if we lose I like to get the different perspective.

Aside from the first 3 goals they kicked for the game, we have controlled this game and played it on our terms up to where I am at now (About halfway into the third quarter).

Waiting to see where and why it turned. Why did we suddenly look so slow and stop defending. How did we allow them to kick 7 of 8 goals (5 unanswered).

Grrrr I am back getting annoyed again. Even with the missed shots and inefficient inside 50s, we’re in control to this point.
Don't watch it.... unless you're getting paid.... don't do it to yourself. Those maggots are idiots.

Our Boundary side player should be the extra - that way the inside runners are still covered.
A HB by Danger boundary side to a free player is far less dangerous.
Absolutely pissing myself at the thought of Lipinski doing anything remotely productive in stopping Dangerfield in that situation lmao.

I think 15 wins for top 4. No games are easy. The ones we need to make certain are Crows at the G, Kangas, Eagles, Dockers at the G, Tigers. That takes us to 11 wins. That means we need 4 more from the other 10 games. Our first two months have set us up really well.

Not really about Lippa or stopping Danger, because that’s an almost impossible task.
If you follow the thread back it’s about stopping Danger HB’s to inside runners for easy goals.

You need to get to top 2. You don't want to be playing a Brisbane up there in September.

The luxury of playing Dangerfield forward was an asset to the cats in the last quarter. Essentially he moved into the middle with fresh legs having played forward for 3 quarters. Difficult to tag someone under those circumstances unless it’s your sub. Would have liked to see McCreery tried in that role though.
Danger effectively “resting” for a last QTR effort was always on the cards.
If we piled on a significant lead it would have forced Scott to prematurely deploy Danger to the middle.
If we kicked straight that’s probably what would have happened.

I like the concept of Danger breaking a tackle, turning inboard and our blokes backing off him to cover their man - giving him a free forward run.

actually the 50mt against Daicos was very much there - I noticed you don't see it on the TV coverage - he did it in front of me though so I saw it live - three times he beat down on the Geelong bloke's chest (can't remember who it was) - looked pretty undisciplined and out of character for Nick. He looked frustrated.

Peter probably had a bit of chat to him about that one after the game lol

Don’t blame him. He gets held at every stoppage

He's far more patient than I am. The amount of shitty scragging he has to deal with would be insufferable. But Nick has had flashes of that kind of thing before - not always a cool customer (which is a good thing!)
