Yeah we were off but the Crows did a great job of keeping the ball out of a contest - just 82 tackles for the game between both sides is roughly what Carlton usually lay themselves.

Adelaide's ability to retain the ball and rack up marks just denied the Blues the opportunity to exert the "effort" we have seen in the last month.

I would also ask how many times watching the game did you see the Crows take a kick into the middle that looked for all the world like the Blues would create the turnover only for the kick to be centimetre perfect? The Crows took risks that paid off massively on the weekend but on another day could have cost them.

Why do we have this discussion about whether we're 'off' with such regularity??

Attitude, mindset, effort, distractions, passion, harmony, synergy, belief, clarity, team-first, pride, intensity, mental toughness, resilience, work-ethic, 1%ers etc etc etc etc etc etc etc

3/4 of our issues are above the shoulders. PERIOD!!!!!

The brain dictates the actions of the limbs. We only see the actions...we are not privy to what is going on inside their heads

I've seen enough of Carlton in my life to not get caught up with this strategy or that structure or that match up cost us the game. I just look for effort etc. And IMHO, every one of our losses this year was above the shoulders

I blame the white jumpers ;)

Season isn’t over yet. Make the calls that need to be made but there is time for them to get it right.
Voss and the leaders need to lead and make the harsh calls though.
Friday nights game is pivotal to where our season goes from here imo. If the Aints are able to beat us, on their least

preferred surface. Our season is then done and dusted, no chance of finals. Might be better then to put our que in the rack

and have a lot of narrow losses to other poor sides.

Yeap - cant see us winning another 10 or more games in our remaining 15 games

Can pencil in 2 more safer wins against roos and weagles but would need to win another 8 or more games in the remaining 13 games against reasonable/tougher opposition

It's OVER

Only seen us recover from impossibly bad starts in a season twice in my lifetime - first time was 1978 where we were 1 win and 5 losses at Round 6 and went on to win 13 of the next 16 and the second time was 2023 where we were 3 wins and a draw after 13 rounds.

Very difficult to come back from those positions and we've only done it twice in 45 years. ;)

History suggests that it IS over.

From what people say on here about our father sons and academy players in the next couple of years I don't think we have too much to worry about.

Hopefully it is safe to return here after a very disappointing loss last week.

So far this year Carlton have;
averaged 67 tackles a game, on the weekend they laid 46 and still won the tackle count by 10.
averaged 142 contested possessions a game - last week we had just 112 (losing by 17)
averaged 41 clearances a game, last week we had just 30 (losing by 8)
The league best DE per game is 75.4% (the Crows have been averaging 73.1%) last week the Crows averaged 80% DE

Basically we got beaten at the contest & clearance and then the Crows were exceptional with their ball use which prevented us getting our game going (the crows had 255 uncontested possession while the league best average is 238 while also taking 120 marks while the league best average is 102).

I really think that it was much more a case of the Crows being exceptional than us being terrible and is we can get a big response from our on ball brigade at the clearance/contest this week we should be a massive chance against the Saints.
Take away Crows being exceptional. If you can't see how terrible we were I think it's best you re-watch the game. We were bottom 4 bad.

There is no way I will rewatch that game but The question I have though is how much of that is because of the level and style the Crows played

Yep, It's OVER
Yep about maximum 6-7 games you can lose to be a top four chance. Can't see us going at best 13-2, this isn't the 95 team that can rally off 16 straight. Almost if it's close to end of season and we're tracking to just fall in the 8 it'll most likely hinder us for next season, might have to consider biting the bullet come round 16 and just start playing more kids and making the decisions on coaches and personel.

Inability to change tactic and momentum in game quick enough which is a constant not an anomaly with this collective. Personally I don't think the Crows got fully into gear till the second half, when we fought back into the game for a small period we fluffed around, forward line returned to their impotent best, lots of headless chooks running around. Even Weiters threw it into the too hard basket which is saying something.

If we lose against the saints then I think it’s definitely over. To hard and most things have gotta go near perfect to get back from 3-6. Just not clicking in a lot of areas so far this season.
Got that feel about it this one, if we drop it, then there will be serious scrutiny coming at us.

Silvagni in for Young is a massive change - Young wasn't terrible but is defence only and is slowness when in possession allows the opposition to set up, SOS gets the ball moving fast and provides a real bounce.

Massive in but still shows how antiquated Carlton are in the modern game. We live and die by the availability of stars.

I’m glad you’re not the coach. Would be a horrendous message to send to the players and fans
Clearly the coaches message is to sell hope and instil confidence in the playing group until there is no chance of making finals. Even then he would be inspiring them to fight to the end. From a football pundits perspective however and on exposed form, IMO the chances of us making finals at this stage appears slim. Thats all Im saying.

Perhaps the Adelaide game could be discussed in the appropriate thread.

I haven't watched much of STKILDA this year.

What are their strengths we need to take away? What do we need to watch out for? What's their transition game?

1978 was a weird year, some coaching turmoil at the start with Ian Stewart leaving after round 3 due to ill health, Serge interim coach for the next 3 games until the great Jesaulenko took over and the players responded winning 13 of the next 16 games.

Mind you we had some good players coming through like Harmes, Buckley, McConnville, Sheldon and the experience and quality of Doull, Ashman, Southby, Austin, McKay, Maclure, Walls, Jezza etc. helped… :)

reckon our pressure rating last Saturday was below 100 most of the day... shocker!
