Now this is what I am talking about when I say I hate throws. The Daicos so called handball was a throw. Why? Because he throws the ball in the air and then punches it. That is a classic throw

I often see people say lower the eyes and find myself thinking the same. But I guess if it was that easy, teams would be running up massive scores like the old days with forwards kicking 10+. I think the difference is players are so fit these days and leading lanes are just clogged up by mids and even half forwards running hard back into defence. Leaves players no choice but to bomb it in long with the aim of the talls to bring it to ground and then hope the smalls can get it done. That's where teams like the Pies and Lions are so good.Imagine having sub 40 i50s but having nearly 60-65 percent scoring from each entry. Swans need to take note, lower the bloody eyes, Freo keep kicking high, long ready for the Pies defenders.
Hopefully we're building that depth with so many of our backups currently playing.System wins flags. Pies have it under McRae. Players come in to replace key players & get it done because they are well drilled.
Except last year when they had a thinner injury list then ours this year and missed the finals.System wins flags. Pies have it under McRae. Players come in to replace key players & get it done because they are well drilled.

Yeah, but when injuries ACTUALLY hit (and not even particularly hard, if memory serves) they weren't just next up with some perfect system. In fact their system got picked apart a few times with McRae dropping his bundle a few times in post match pressers.Nowhere near good enough for B2B but not many teams are its why its so rare.
But their pressure looks to be back to their best and their veterans are having career best seasons.

Edit: just checked. Leading into this round last year, they had three wins like us with five first 22 players on the injury list.
Dockers won all indicators, Clearances, Contested ball, marks, disposals, forward entries, by 28. But they had one problem. The way they bring the ball forward. Big bomb every time and four talls flying against each other. Pies got the ball on the ground and cleared every time. Neither side were that good by foot, but the Pies had 75 less disposals and were better. But they were good by hand, although in the old days half their handball would have been declared throws. The dockers had better Disposal Efficiency by 5.5% but they were 33.2% down on efficiency in the Forward 50. They wasted more than 50% of their forwrd entries. That is astounding. You are never going to win games that way.System wins flags. Pies have it under McRae. Players come in to replace key players & get it done because they are well drilled.

Does it say more about Freo? Can you believe Collingwood had 34! inside 50's compared to Freo 62
They also kicked 15.7 from those 34 entries which is absolutely WILD and must be a record for efficiency.
Does it say more about Freo?
