Game Day Round 9, 2025: West Coast vs Richmond

I'll say one thing our selections are no longer predictable.

I would've thought with Allen playing back it's a choice of two of Archer Reid, Matt Flynn and Bailey Williams to go with Waterman and Jack Williams. I thought wrong. Maybe Mini was as irrationally angry and JWill's kick that led to a Viney goal and Allan suspension as I was watching...

Clay Hall had 26, 27 and 32 touches in the last 3 WAFL games. Surprised he hasn't had a look in since Gather Round.

Flynn, Hewett, Reid, Kelly in combo at centre bounces doesn't excite. That's not really 'protecting' Harley. Maybe if Harley was fit and Kelly was in 2019 it would work.

If players who make a mistake are out the next week (Jack) then almost the whole side needs dropping lol.

G'day fellow nuffs. Long time, first time etc etc

As a now Victorian-based fan, I am always extremely grateful for Keys et al and their constant, detailed updates and summaries particularly during the pre-season. I had a trot down to the captains' run today and thought I'd make a small repayment by sharing some (novice) observations:

• As reported by Splinters, Duggan spent almost the whole session (i) doing run throughs and (ii) having a long conversation with a few of the training staff. I saw him punching his upper thigh/hip tendon so would support Splinters' view that it could be a hip issue. Doesn't look good or likely.
• (TW: Bedwetting) At some stage during the session Hewett must have gone off, put on a tracksuit jacket, and replaced his boots with slides. I can't say when exactly, but when the other places went off to get changed, he was already walking around with a member of the coaching staff in a jacket and slides. He wasn't engaged in taking photos with the fans and seemed to take off quickly. Apologies if I have looked too much into this, but given how much of my wellbeing is tied to his health, you can appreciate I wasn't stoked to see that.
• The lack of skills stands out, although it is unclear how much of that is due to the very low energy of the session. In the one very low energy ball movement drill, a missed, uncontested, one metre handball from Gross to Harley hit the deck to the jeers of the whole team.
• In the ruck drills, Hough, Ryan, Gross and Brockman were all participating (along with Harley, Graham and TK). Unclear if they were just making up numbers.
• I am one of those nuffs who pays particular attention to how Harley is getting along with the other blokes, whether he's actually mates etc. He definitely tends to hang closer towards Ryan and Brockman (supported by his IG story yesterday) and occasionally with Baker and Graham.
• Maric is definitely taller in person compared to how I remember him this time last year. I may have shrunk.
• Boots still has the best hands of anyone associated with WC. Some kind of an indictment on our skills atm.
• Woosh is still a genuine rockstar amongst fans. What a guy.

Not hopeful, Tigers are an experienced team who have brung in a lot of highish draft pick kids and are taking time to develop them. We are now more of a team of kids (generally lower draft picks) with a smattering of experienced roll players.

We present a PhD in how not to manage a list and draft/trade. As for the BF attitude that we need to avoid good vic kids as they will leave, they are trade capital at worst. Who walked last season? and we were weak in extracting value for them.

Shows a real lack of understanding I think. Young players really struggle coming on as a sub if we are honest. That role is best suited for a mature aged player for a club like us. Someone who knows how to make a impact right away as opposed to a youngster who gets a bit lost with being able to rise to the intensity right away

For now id like to see Tom Cole/Jayden Hunt to be rotated around as the sub. Someone to come onto the backline and try to provide some sort of run
