I was a uni student when colour tv came in and large black and white TV were worthless. I bought one for bugger all for my flat and it was a better TV than my parents had when I was a kid.

I grew up in Tonga with no electricity. Came back to Australia every so often (hence the Port Melbourne stories earlier) but typically we didn't know what Aussie rules even looked like as young kids. My grandfather used to send us cassette tapes with the game recorded off the radio and we'd listen to them about 6 weeks offset. When I was 6 I had no idea we'd won the premiership in 1971 until I heard the call of the game when the tape arrived.

When we came to Australia in 1974 on a trip, I watched my first replay on tv. It was Collingwood North in B&W. I had no idea who the F**K anyone was, because they looked exactly the same in black and white until I noticed there were two different coloured shorts out there.
