Its like he's me, only he skipped the part where you make a video and just decided to annotate the whole thing in text for some reason.

Its bizarre but fascinating. Maybe I should get someone to do this for every video I make. There might be a huge audience out there for textual descriptions of sports performances. This guy might be a genius.

This isn't me attacking or bringing down your video, in fact I love your videos. It is just me just noting down points because this forum has high hopes for cody. But I won't do these anymore since it has rubbed you the wrong way, apologies.

Nah love the effort and write up 😊

Go through his 3 and 30 game for me and tell me how many negative things ya see there….

I can see the Isaac Heeney comparison.

Likes to fend off a lot but defintely needs a a few weight session with these don't argues.

Has nice evasiveness moves.

There some horrific kicking turnover, but seems like he just having fun out there. He is defintely going to dominate in his draft year.

I do agree he has issues with his kicking sometimes, I don’t see it as Ben campo bad, I actually think his technique is solid just a bit rushed when he seems to get excited

Cody is miles better than Ben Campo.

As someone who watches the draft fairly closely I was astonished that posters on here wanted to make out as if Ben's kicking was just some sort of optical illusion. He would have gone top 10-15 if he could kick, would almost guarantee it.

Cody on the other hand has a slightly irregular technique in that its not textbook like Gulden or Daicos but he's a fantastic kick for goal and a good-above average kick in general play for an inside mid. A bit inconsistent with short/mid range still but made massive strides this year compared to last.

His kicking, particularly when around his body slightly, reminds me of mine a bit. He leans back ever so slightly and it's as though he undercuts the ball a bit which can cause it to hang up a bit and lack penetration in my experience.

When he's front on though he's much better, good flat trajectory and punchy. Probably why he's a good, long set shot.

You can do the same excercise for every player currently playing in the AFL at the moment.
Hell, every club forum does the same excercise on a weekly basis dissecting their own players. No big deal, thankfully Cody can find the ball at will, underage work in progress is what I see with these kids.

How to watch
The only place to watch the 2025 Marsh AFL National Under-18 Boys Championships will on the AFL.com.au and AFL Live Official App. All 10 games will be live streamed in our match centre, and there will also be live scores and stats, player highlights and a full match report from each game.

He's 17 playing a game he loves. Of course he's gonna get excited.

I loved mochacinolatte's blow-by-blow summary.

Can't beat watching noobermensch's raw footage, but sometimes it's hard to process how many touches were contested, uncontested, hit targets or didn't. How many times he burst through traffic etc.

I don't think the criticism is justified and I would like to see almondmilkdecaffeinatedmochacinofrappewithstevia to do the same for future games/prospects.

Is it criticism or is it noting that taking the time to do that seems like the act of someone with a lot of time on their hands?

Having said that, we all do things that we enjoy that others would consider boring and tedious, so each to their own.

We are all posting messages on an internet forum, talking about our footy team with people we have never met.

I'd say we all have some spare time on our hands.... :p

Who has more time on their hands - the bloke who cuts two hours of footage down into 6 minutes of Walker's highlights or the bloke who watches 2 hours of footage (or perhaps the just the 6 minutes) and rights down what Walker did?

If someone is putting up big numbers, you ought to see how well they use it. Since I was watching the footage, might as well have some sidenotes.

I did something similar a while back on (I think?) Doc - highlighting his early season struggles. I think as a starting point for discussion it's actually a lot better than video. Video is awesome, you're able to make your own judgements rather than trusting someone else's impressions, and from a contextual standpoint it's more efficient than someone trying to describe every moment in complete detail. But being able to break each possession or contest down, categorise them, and then weigh up the nett positive/negative outcome is easier to do in a list-format rather than trying to keep a mental log while watching.

I'd take your format a step further and give it the old traffic light colour treatment. Positive outcome (ie. target hit, score registered) in green text, negative outcome (ie. turnover, free kick against) in red, and the stuff that's borderline (ie. kick to contest resulting in stoppage) in orange.

Would allow, at a glance, to see what the ratio is, and also to identify if there are any skill gaps that keep bobbing up.

I agree with everyone in this thread. Cody is overrated and should not be bid on inside the top 10.

Ison, Gresham, Clark....what's the deal on these academy kids? Are they basically ours for the taking (e.g Kako to Essendon who simply acquired points to match a bid) or not until after a certain pick are we free to select them?

(acknowledge there is a trade up of draft points to secure academy kids)
