Just had a text.

Ah Chee's was clearly a goal and the silence of their crowd told you everything.

Wtf is a review worth with that vision. Amateur hour. Goal ump froze.

We were clearly the better side. Don't know why we didn't just steady instead of cough it up with all the experience we had out there.

Just disappointing to lose . 20 i/s 50's to 8 . A bit unfathomable really.
Seen it live with a good angle. It was a goal. No doubt at all.

The goal ump was never calling that a goal after the Sydney game a few years back. Wouldn’t make it out of the ground otherwise. The umpire had no idea and just had to guess for the soft call.

Credit to Adelaide, they played out of their skins. Everything went right for them and they capitalised, sometimes you have to just give credit where it’s due.

As for us, I think we’ll take a lot away from that. We dominated everywhere except goal kicking against the form team of the comp at their home ground and even then, we possibly did get a goal to Ah Chee that would have won it. It also isn’t going to be very often Neale misses from 25 almost directly in front. We had more than enough chances to win it and we won’t make the same mistakes next time with a lot of improvement still in us. We’ll be fine.

Yep. Lost all shape. We are making a habit of letting it get out the back. Starce will help if he gets back

5-0 to start

4-3-1 since

suspect the bye will help. Cause we never rest anyone!

But i hope it hasn’t come to late. We had it in round 12 last year

The bye is after the Geelong game at alphabet stadium (as Tony Shaw) called it a few months ago.

The melts here are a bit over the top. Yes we lost but there is a lot of context to that loss.
We got hammered by the umps all night. There was two different HTB interpretations tonight.
We should have had a couple of 50s that were very obvious.
Late in the last when the ball was kicked to Charlie, he was being held the entire time but nothing was paid. Not to mention how much he was held all game.
The amount of times our mids were tackled before they got the ball.
The Ah Chee goal that wasn’t paid.
As frustrating as Dev’s kick was, I’m confident the guy on the mark took off before he was back in play. In the time it took Dev to take 2 steps back into play he has taken 4 or 5 and shutdown the kick.

Fletcher was great all night. In contested situations he makes such good decisions and his use by foot is normally great. It’s frustrating when comparing it to how WAshcroft just dumps it on the boot without much thought of where it is going.
Outside of the dump kicks, Ashcroft was really good.
I was impressed with Gallop. I thought Thilthorpe would throw him around in the ruck, but Gallop competed and won some hitouts. I think him going off after the head knock cost us a bit.
Zorko letting Keays get so far away for him cost us. We let that matchup play out for too long. Zorks is frustrating because he hits some great kicks but he misses some as well. He is still a dangerous weapon, but when it goes wrong it costs us goals. We just hope that he hits more than he misses, which generally does.
Grug is coming back into form, by finals time he will be peaking.

Like all of us I was disappointed that we lost but all things considered, going down by 5 points was a terrible outcome.

Crows defended well. Makes for awful footy to have your whole team in an oppositions defensive 50 all game but it worked. Stifled a lot of the Lions small forwards.

Hipwood needs a training block. In my 30 odd years of supporting this club he’s arguably the worst player I’ve seen to somehow still get games. And that’s including spuds like Lisle and Close.
Hipwoods defensive efforts were huge tonight.

We kick one of those missed goals and it’s a different result.,

Hippy and Rayner were off the ground at crucial times in the last quarter.

Coaching mistakes with sub costly.
Marshall, Bruce, Conor class above Dev.

Daniher is a massive loss but we have also lost Day who, while not a replacement, at least allowed eric to be forward. And Smith.

We really need Eric back in his best role.
We’re unfortunately just very unhealthy in the ruck/forward department right now, I thought Eric was playing great to start the season but without a supporting act like Day it’s been difficult for him.

Will Ashcroft is a great handballer and is brilliant in close with his hands and reflexes.

Elephant in the room, he is a turnover machine with his kicking. It is a liability. He should be encouraged to stick to handballs because it hurts us when he kicks it.
100%
I would say Levi kicks to too many contests or the other team instead of looking for a shorter target
And Bailey is trying to be a hero
There are a few players that will try and be the hero and not go with the obvious kick which is to a player in the best position
Add Lohman to the list
Fages needs to enforce more control
Some of our players wow great game
Rayner and morris a special mention
A few worries

It will be an interesting watch over the back end of the season on Zorko, Charlie, Fort, Oscar and Lester. I love all five of them as we all do but I’m just wondering if we’ll four are just ever so slightly noticeably starting to slow down.

Whether it is just needing a break or time starting to catch them, the post bye will say a lot. The fact all of them are looking a bit worn down might definitely imply it’s just a break they need. LAshcroft could also do with a freshen up for the more important back end of the year.

Is Morris our forward coach? Busy week for him.

SWANN can't head south quick enough for me....needs to put the fear of God into these umps and make them aware there are 2 equally important teams in each game.

After sleeping on it, I really don't know how we can be mad at that performance.

  • Adelaide is no.1 in various stats currently and one of the hot teams in comp
  • we managed to stay ahead of them comfortably for 3 quarters
  • more importantly when momentum turned against us in last, we arrested it and attacked them for 15 mins
  • players kept trying n trying to win that one. There was no slouch in terms of effort across the board

I think we are getting spoilt by a win everything or it's a catastrophy mindset. I was super proud of their effort but sad about the result. Onwards n upwards, bring on next week.

Our forwards are quite selfish at times, I think because so many are trying to find form, trying to do it all themselves rather than play the selfless footy that makes us so potent. I still believe we are a tier above Adelaide. We dominated the midfield and general play for most of the night. Our defence is strong this year which is a good indication that we will go deep in September again. Starcevich will make us even better. Frustrating result but not the end of the world.

We played alright for 3 and a bit quarters but as has become standard we drop away for a period in games and that’s enough to let teams back in.

We aren’t as potent forward as previous years, due to personnel (either not there, coming back from injury or age) so we don’t have the scores in us that we had previously.

I left Jasper out of my bests last night with Hugh and Cam, but that was a mistake. That kid is a gun. If Kiddy gets back this year (perhaps unlikely) I’d consider moving Zorko up the ground a bit. He’s getting found out defensively too often now and his kicking has been below par the past month. Think he needs the bye.

The end result of a loss hurts more than the way we played. We dropped points in games we shouldn’t against NM & the Dees. We picked up a game no one would’ve expected at the start of the year in the Hawks. We had the chance last night at picking up the other one but blew it through 15 minutes of packing up shop and thinking the game was done, finished with the last 15 minutes trying to kick the ball between two sticks.

The result itself could really come back to hurt, given our run, when the final positions are settled at the end of the year.

Was reading recently there are about 10 clubs currently into our talented x factor Shagga.....the sooner he becomes a regular the better even at the expense of xxx. He is also a bit of a dead eye dick when shooting which would've come in handy last night.

Damm auto correct I have now fixed and changed Logan to lohman as I think he is another that is trying to do too much

Overall it was a good performance but the complete meltdown in the last quarter was something to behold

Unfortunately the Crows burst of 3 goals to start the last obviously built the pressure to a level a lot of our players couldn't handle and we choked hard

If only they were all headless, it would be a much more apt gif.
chicken escape GIF

Frustrating loss. Overall a good performance but we are screaming out for a couple more of our forwards to hit form or just provide a more even output. Our scoring power this year has dropped which is the big worry for me.

Thought a big difference throughout was their contested marking across the ground. They took big marks at critical times. Payne and Andrews aside we didn’t look like taking a contested grab.

It’s the fact we kicked 0.8 from a million inside 5Os, to 5.0. Doesn’t matter how well we played, we choked harder than some adult movies I’ve watched. That last quarter was horrendous.

Not a bad performance really excluding that last bit. Structure going inside 50 is a worry, but we were up for it last night and sometimes you lose against other good teams.

My controversial takes:
1. Hipwood in my votes. He saved 2 goals spoiling and was quite good below the feet.
2. I don’t think Levi is ready for the 1s. Some strange decision making at times, but also he is noticeably less penetrating than any other player out there when in space. When in congestion he dumps off a step without looking - usually to disadvantage
3. People being embarrassed by our performance… I’d be much more embarrassed if my team played for free kicks as a strategy. I’d be an embarrassed Crows supporter right now
