FFS

Give it a rest, I’ve never heard so much school girl carry on.

Umps this umps that.

FMD, if Melbourne had 1 ounce of composure they would have won that. They didn’t handle the big moments late well and Collingwoods experience shone through, get over it FFS.
if the umps were neutral we win by 5 goals.

we handled the big day better than Collingwood. The only people that didn't rock up was the umps and the pies.

Haha.

Yep, you got me. Collingwood played shit and still won.

Thank god we’ve got the umps on the payroll.

Gee whiz. ✊✊

Lmao this piss Dees team couldnt even beat St Kilda last week and Pie needed big suck from the campaignerpires to get it done.

Not looking good for the Collingwood Retirement Farm. Old legs catching up them? Not even halfway through the season, very sad.

Pies supporters are so sensitive even after a win! ****ing hilarious. Cheer up folks. Enjoy the wins until you crash and burn when August and September come around.
What's it like crashing & burning when March & April come around - year, after year, after year, after year, year, after year, year, after year, year, after year, year, after year, year, after year, year, after year, year, after year, year, after year,

we didn't want to embarrass you on Neale's big day. Though, May did that for you after the game, didn't he?

Umpiring was diabolical BUT we were equally as much of our enemy as the umpires were. Lacked composure in the last half of 4th qtr when several opportunites presented themselves.

I would be curious to find out what each individual umpire’s free kick tally was. It became apparent half way through the 1st qtr we were going to be burnt by the umpiring decisions, it would make it interesting if it disproportinately skewed for 1 or a couple of them

Anyone who scoffs at the possibility that 1 or some of the umpires may collude to influence a game with their decision making wouldn't be troubling the Mensa entry requirements. (This is not a “Collngwood get teabagged by the umpires” rant.)

Pretty used to it. What's it like doing it in September apart from the odd year?

Oh teams like the Dogs and Cats will bend the pies over soon. Just you wait. Bend them over reeeeeaal good.

better that what your "club" puts up year, after year, after year, after year,

I mean, what is the actual point of your exitance? To ensure the broadcasters have 9 game to televise each week? I cant think of any other valid reason.

Absolute maggot club and supporters, well played umps.

if i'm a Melbourne fan i'd want Jake Melksham to stick around for a couple more years he's had a great season after a slow start

It wasn't just the free kick count, but where the umps give them. Putting Daicos dead in front. Many of the umpiring decisions were baffling, and 9/10 were favouring Collingwood. I thought the Dees were the better side, and lost by a point - in spite of umpire bias, and inaccuracy. When they break it down midweek, they could take away a lot. They had their chance to well and truly put the game away, didn't do it.

Free kick Nick got them over the line. Are the Pies doing a 2024 Swans? Perhaps they've peaked too early?

Absolutely love him, can kind of see the argument that he might not be the best captain but some of the issues that would lead people to hold that view, I would contend that he can’t have much of a say in that anyway.

Steven May is a loose cannon and a clear d**khead. Moreover, he’s a senior player who hasn’t spent his whole career at Melbourne. He isn’t a young d**khead, he’s an old d**khead. Even if Gawn was the confrontational type, and it seems he’s not, May wouldn’t listen to him telling him to pull his head in. So Gawn is fighting a losing battle there. May isn’t a ‘rascal’ getting pissed and just making a nuisance of himself, he’s violent, and disruptive. That’s hard to control.

Oliver has personal problems. Gawn can’t fix that. He can support Oliver but he can’t fix him. So that’s not on him.

Petracca wasn’t looked after properly by the club. Again that’s not on Gawn.

What Gawn can do is lead by example which he does every week, offer a great example as a man, a player, try and be encouraging to everyone and bring the best out of them as much as he can and it seems he’s tried that as best as a player can.

Spot on I reckon.

Not sport but I've managed teams in the workplace for many years in a number of different settings.

I've had many high performing, cohesive teams that function well and get the best out of each other.

I've also had a couple that have been the complete opposite (including some where the team is mostly great but a couple of people who have significant issues and cause chaos for everybody).

A team leader is responsible for about 10% of how a team performs (unless the team leader is the primary problem, in which case it can be much higher). They can drive standards, listen to their team, model the right things and help foster an environment that evokes trust and drives good performance but they can't solve personal problems, addiction and all aspects of the broader organisation/environment that they operate within.

Sometimes too much blame (and too much credit) falls at the feet of team leaders/captains, for whom only so much power is bestowed in a footy club or a non-sporting organisation.
