Yeah i mean if we really want to talk about Coaches votes i could just say that NWM only has 30 odd votes, and Bailey Smith has 60 odd.

Bailey Smith was traded for pick 17, and therefore NWM has a value equal or less than pick 17.

But i don't think you'd agree
Bailey smith hadn’t played in a while was injured and had questions about his attitude/ off field behaviour. If he was traded on his current form at the end of this season he would go for much more. Nwm is worth two firsts every day of the week

Smith was damage good when traded, the Bulldogs wanted to get rid of him at any cost. NWM>Bergman so is worth 2 mid 1st rounder, Bergman is worth 1 mid 1st rounder.

It’s not a terrible deal but we are rebuilding need to continue going to the draft especially with early picks can’t be trading them in our current position list wise

Bergman is 23 so you've got a guy for 10+ years. He also looks like he is developing now into a known quality that would be a certain top 10 pick in comparison to this draft.

There's a solid argument a guy you pick from 4-10 does not touch the end product of Bergman.

I'm just showing how your assumptions based on coaches votes don't really paint the full picture of a player.

He's your best player but he only has 30 votes, and is not in the top 20. Even George Hewett has more.

Based on this it would be hard to argue that he is worth two firsts

Of course I'm just saying all this to play devils advocate

It’s just a guide, it’s not the be-all-and-end-all, but surely if a guy who’s played almost 100 games has just 5 coaches votes after 13 games, he’s not worth a bottom 5 team’s first pick.

Even Jase Burgoyne has more than twice as many votes.

Other things to go by re Nas are for instance that he’s the 6th highest rated player in the comp this year (going into last weekend) and the no.2 rated “general defender” in the comp, plus he’s been in the system for two years less than Miles.

He’s streets ahead of where Miles was at the same age, and given how he’s improved literally from one year to the next so far in his career, just imagine how well he could be going by the time he’s Bergmans age.

And to put Nas’ season into some further perspective, old mate Dan Houston made the AA team on a HBF last year off just a 26 coaches vote season. Nas already has over 30 votes, with 10 games still to play!

Others who played predominantly half back to make the AA team last year were Zorko (43 votes) and Whitfield (41 votes), so Nas is well on track to fly past them as well, despite being several years younger than all of them.

There's a very big difference between pick 4 and 10, Bergman is more pick 10.

Out of contract and id be driving a pretty firm price for a 24 year old good but not elite talent.

Compromise between arguments here could be a future 1st instead?

Weak draft or not, id be pretty miffed handing over a top 5 pick for Bergman out of contract if it was Freo.

I think they would
Bergman is a known talent with 10 years left and if the $$$ are correct of around $1 mil then for sure pick #5 would be thye value
Then that's not valuing him as a pick 10 in last year's draft but pick 5, which club has reportedly offer him $1M???

We were given pick 17 for Bailey Smith, which slid into the 20s after father son and academy picks and we were told to just accept it because he was out of contract.

You can tell who has actually watched Bergman play in the past 18 months and who haven't seen a minute of him.
I've watched a lot of Port this year because JHF was ****ing my dreamteam with whatever that was the first few weeks. Maybe you guys are doing the same as the umpires and thinking the two are the same player when it comes to deciding votes? Side note, that Linney dude is another clone, you guys just hoarding JHF lookalikes? Is that why he wore that ridiculous single leg sleave?

Bergman is very good, note elite, I dont think that's controversial unless we have extremely generous criteria for elite now.
