Is it Ross’s fault Higgins can’t kick straight? Or that our players turn the ball over constantly?

The game plan is what kept us so close to Fremantle and collingwood. It’s the players letting us down
I reckon it is on the coaching staff that blokes are turning it over. Structures are part of it, plus why are our skills consistently below par? What are we training?

We have the 2nd worst record in the league the last 11 weeks, the only team worse beat us during this period.

Lyon has this knack of convincing everyone that he is rolling around with a bunch of spuds and he is getting the absolute best out of them just because he has a dour game plan. I don't buy it.

I think the list is miles better than 2-9. I mean, are we a 0-11 side if Lyon isn't coaching?

There is talent on this list, we should not be the 2nd worst team over a 3 month period. It's not good enough, and the coaching staff need to take a good look at what's going wrong.

Saw some good signs last week and even more today.

Playing Jones and Byrnes and just looking lost is hard to take.

Seeing the likes of Hall, Tauru and Garcia today gives hope and is exciting for the fans.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Hill next week.

Agree that Ross outcoached Longmuir again.

Unpopular opinion incoming.....

I would have subbed the Viking.

He had a super game, and is gonna be a sublime talent for us over a long time. But he was cooked at 3/4 time, and got exposed a few times in the last just through fatigue. Maybe he learns from it, but probably not, it's game number 2 and he's had a hugely disrupted preparation since being drafted.

Dunno how we would have structured up (perhaps send Keeler back??) or if Butler had a niggle. But for mine, I'm making that change.

You know what they say about hindsight though....
It's about development for tauru and our younger players as we are in a full rebuild

Ross’s press conference such entertainment. Went through all the dry stuff. Stats, missed chances. But his kind of absent minded drive by of the situation where Treacy got hurt was magnificent. Deliberate misunderstanding of a question to bring it up quizzically. And his aside as he left. I’m still laughing.

But he was right. How that play got pulled up when we’re out and off to the races you would have to ask. For a rib injury. The ball and players well away from the injured player. Treacy then stays on the ground. Waves the trainers and doctors away. Then a ball up.

And Windy gets driven into the ground with his head twice within a minute and no free kick. The broadcaster thought enough of it at half time to ponder whether the tackler might be in trouble with the MRO. Not really a suspension offence, but you never know. But of course at the time….no free kick for you St Kilda!

More about the game later.
Usual Rossy presser brilliance.

And seriously, what a shocking decision it was, when we were off and running away from the injured player.

Also his reaction when asked why Serong and Brayshaw had so few disposals, with the journos inferring it was because they must have been tagged.

Think both his coaching and presser were excellent tonight.

I know Ross has to do the AFL contracted 8 min interview but my goodness they are getting increasingly worse. Getting questions on a non existent tag (we know that it was non existent because we all watched the game) for close to 3 mins of the 8 is f*ing tedious just because we tagged the 'best player in the league', Nick Daicos last week. The pre game ones are even worse. Ross has said at probably 5 of them this year wtte "so no questions about the game?"

Yes, there’s talent…and it’s very, very young.

Trav, Tauru, Hall, Garcia, Keeler, Wilson, Caminiti, Carroll, Boxshall, Ari, Irish - to name a few that have had some games.

NAS, Windy, Mitch, Sharman, Henry all a little older, but still pretty young.

What’s “going wrong” is they’ve got a lot to learn and need many more games under their belts.

100%- skills, and in particular, goal kicking need work.

Edit: Pou! I forgot Pou! How could I?🙄

He just runs his own show now. They ask a question and he veers off mostly to whatever narrative he has. Fair enough as the questions are mostly very shallow. If you can actually hear them. I can’t wait to see them frankly. He has obviously been told off for being grumpy, or showing the journos up. So he runs them a merry dance. He’ll always slide in a few sly ones. Love it.

Yep, and we saw the benefits of him having gone back to the VFL to work on his disposal.

A few weeks ago he went at 33% DE in the VFL, today he went at 79% and didn’t have a single turnover.

This is why you don’t necessarily just “put them in the seniors and leave them there”.

If they’re low in confidence or have glaring things they need to work on, it’s vastly easier to improve those things at the lower level.

Then you can bring them back in when they’re ready.

Yep, personally I would have given Wilson more time down there - I think tonight showed again that even playing wing we need him to get more contested skills asap.

Correct it’s not something you’re going to
Magically fix out of the coaching box
Yes they need to train but fck me Higgins can’t kick a ball straight on a drop punt from 25 out…he’s an AFL forward ffs
Wood - one was an easy round the corner 25 meter shot…..hits the post then does it again later albeit from a harder shot
Butler running with the flight of the ball twice into goal fails to take a chest mark
I mean…..you can’t coach that shit
What Lyon IS accountable for is: why when you run more players around the stoppage (so you’ve pushed up 2 forwards around the ball) and why when you lack a key tall forward….why are players constantly bombing the ball into 50? That’s on coaching imo - whether that’s Lyon or Bolton (is he forward coach?) doesn’t matter it’s poor. They ran it out with ease multiple times. FFS we saw the blueprint when Keeler lead up at Clark who hit him lace out to goal early in the game. I watched the Pies last week NEVER bomb a ball into 50 always looking for the short chip lead up kick into 50
Are we that stupid we can’t employ that ?
Even when King comes back ….we should be using this tactic …

Gives me Andrew Thompson vibes for some reason.

Reckon he is better overhead then what we have seen thus far.

Still reckon he ends up a half back but early days.
I was thinking even as Webster's replacement ... can play both tall and small and also break lines and provide run ... and hopefully pinch hit through the middle
