More eyeballs looking at how shit you and your teams have been for 20 years.A player agent once told me that there's simply more money to be made (outside the salary cap) at the "destination clubs". Putting aside Geelong's sneaky financial shenanigans, this is all legitimate coin from outside sponsors, appearances at a car showroom, sportman's nights etc. If you are a Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon player, you attract more eyeballs, more bums on seats and, thus, more money from people who want to use your celebrity to sell cars, kebabs, tickets, whatever. The other benefit of these big clubs are the to-end-of-town people who advise players on investments, financial strategies. If I were a young player, I would definitely want to play for a big club, which is why the AFL needs to do everything in its power to retain balance and integrity in drafting and trading - it's the only way to create some semblance of a level playing field.
Players are stupid if they think we don’t have the connections, we just don’t seem to advertise it as much

on improving our bottom 4.
