A player agent once told me that there's simply more money to be made (outside the salary cap) at the "destination clubs". Putting aside Geelong's sneaky financial shenanigans, this is all legitimate coin from outside sponsors, appearances at a car showroom, sportman's nights etc. If you are a Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon player, you attract more eyeballs, more bums on seats and, thus, more money from people who want to use your celebrity to sell cars, kebabs, tickets, whatever. The other benefit of these big clubs are the to-end-of-town people who advise players on investments, financial strategies. If I were a young player, I would definitely want to play for a big club, which is why the AFL needs to do everything in its power to retain balance and integrity in drafting and trading - it's the only way to create some semblance of a level playing field.
More eyeballs looking at how shit you and your teams have been for 20 years.

Players are stupid if they think we don’t have the connections, we just don’t seem to advertise it as much

With Rowell and Bergman gone and Butters seemingly looking less likely, I wonder what we do with our $2 mill+ cap space?

We must've front ended a bit this year so the future year's space would be getting crazy.
The benefit of signing Naughton to a long term contract is we can move a lot of his money forward.

Give Darcy the exact same money as The Bont contract for 8 years.
We have our top end stars, Let's spend the remaining money 💰 on improving our bottom 4.
Small fwd/defender, mature age back up ruck, replacement for LJones/JJ/Adz/Duryea

I would if I could….if we played more games in QLD and not Darwin
In hearing ya, lucky to get 1 game against the Lions or Suns in Qld, then the suns move their game to Darwin or Cairns.
I didn't get much value for a interstate membership 😕

Bergman signing on with Port is why its a waste of time and energy engaging in trade speculation.

Its pretty standard practice to sign rolling contracts and wait for the proper **** off money that free agency virtually guarantees.

What are people willing to pay for Butters?

What's our first this year going to end up as - 15+? And we should only improve if we get Butters.

So 3 x 1sts (this year and next two year's)? And 1.6-1.7M/yr? Can't see it being any cheaper.

I want him but geez it's a lot of eggs.

I’m considering even dropping my interstate membership for a 3 game or sideline with SC next year….i seem to go lower and lower every year because we get less and less. I figure if I do go to Melbourne and it’s when a game is on, I’ll be going with work - I don’t need a 6 game at Marvel membership. Wish it could be more flexible and you could have access to all games in your state and choose another 2 anywhere or something

If we can't get a big name, I'd be looking to get Jeremy Howe out of Collingwood. Perfect intercepting third tall with sublime skill. Would take the Coffield/Cleary role until Jaques is ready. Would also weaken a Premiership contending rival.

Only on one year deals at the Pies. Offer him two and massively front load the first year. Could be our Brian Lake/Hawthorn moment...

You want to offer a 2 year deal to a 35 year old?

I've already dropped mine, I can't remember the last game I was able to use it.

Bont signing teased
I had a feeling that this might be the week to announce the Bont contract (if it's been signed) given he's just had his 250th and vibes are good right now.

In saying that, they might hold off a week to give Libba his space for his 250th so next week a possibility?

Why not just grab Todd Goldstein and Tom Hawkins while you're at it?

If Howe plays in 2028, he will eclipse the record currently shared by Dangerfield and Robert Harvey as the oldest ever player to wear the same number on his back as his current age.

Surely the way he is playing trumps the number? He hasn't missed a beat. If it gets us a flag next year I would 100% give him two years.

If he is good enough to play in a flag with us why wouldn't he just play in flags with Collingwood?

Maybe the suggestion was for comedic relief and I took it too seriously

Still think Vlaustin would be great.
I do too but the reality is he's already won 3 flags. The guy is probably close to their highest paid player given they have no one to pay. He's probably happy cashing a bunch of money whilst developing the next group of Tigers players.

Our team really doesn't lack a whole lot,

Buderick fills the small defender role (Jaques/Walker/Sellwood developing)
Chandler type to fill the half forward (Dolan developing)

Outside of that JOD and Lobb are a fantastic KPD duo Darcy Naughton and a fantastic KPF duo midfield has depth as well as Freijah Sanders Hynes types to develop further, Davo and Truck solid reliable wings
