I tell you what it would be bloody hard as a Carlton fan to keep showing up week after week if that’s the type of skills on display each week. Some of the skill errors they made weren’t just bad at AFL level but even local park footballers could expect to hit targets a bit better than they did.
I don’t think you need to tell anyone on this board how hard it would be to support an underperforming team year after year… the glory of the 3-peat had long since disappeared by the time Leppa took over!

Bailey offered a week for his bump on Haynes. Surely we appeal
I need to rewatch it, but on the first replays there was no contact between Bailey and Haynes head. Haynes touched his face high on his cheek, but i don’t think that was from Bailey. Happy to be proven wrong on super slow-mo.

Normally they pay them even if someone got hands to it first. Happens all the time in packs on the when you watch the replays, someone’s fingers just brush it and the mark is paid. As it should be IMO, in a pack the only time it shouldn’t be paid is when the ball has changed trajectory because someone has touched it. Otherwise it is just too hard to umpire.
I think they should give benefit of the doubt to the player who comes down with the mark in pack mark situations. This is an absolute highlight of our game. Sure, it’s tough on defenders - but our game rules aren’t black and white anyway.

It looks like Haynes head contacts his own arm when he hits the ground. There doesn’t appear to be any head contact with Bailey at all. Baffling decision by Christian and the brains trust at the AFL.

There was an angle I saw showing head on head.
And because he chose to bump, it’s on him.

Anyone else have terrible picture quality watching on Kayo last night? Thought I was playing an AFL game on my Commodore 64 back in 1988 it was that bad.

Ah well, good excuse to watch the replay.

It is what it is, I agree it is nothing - but the rules are very clear now. Just don't bump, not worth it.
Ironic that our least likely player to get done for bowling someone over is Bailey.

But I've been wondering for some time whether we ( the Lions) just ban our guys from bumping and develop alternative strategies when bumping is an option.

Shepherd? Is the rule the ball has to be within 5, 10 meters?

I'd be giving O a few more games in the reserves and bring Sam Day back in.

With the sad Noah Answerth injury I think they will just go with Darcy Gardiner for him leaving a back 7 of Wilmot, Andrews, Lester, Starcevich, Zorko, Gardiner and Fletcher.
Who would be your sub?

Valid point but I do think that because Logan is not a "name" (yet), the umpires probably don't appreciate how good he is and tend to "when in doubt.....cross the arms and ball it up"

As has been pointed out elsewhere in this thread this is not the first time he's been dudded this season.

And was he really fourth in line?
You need to consider something called visual summation, which is how you can perceive that two things have happened rather than one. Our TVs flash up still images so quickly that we 'mash' them together and 'see' continuous motion.
Perfect adjudication of such events that are happening so quickly is not possible if you are a biologically based life form.

Curnow’s first three marks up the ground against Lester, could be an indication of a weakness against the stronger teams with 3 KPF, so whilst Lester stays, I would have Gardiner as the tall lockdown.
Lester beat Curnow hands down. The fact that Curnow had to run to half back to get a couple of touches was a win for us. Lester basically took him out of the game. Curnow upfield means no Curnow inside 50, rendering Carlton a KPF down. Watch these highlights to see some of Lester’s great work. Curnow only looked half a chance when Gardiner was on him. I like Gardiner and am happy for him to be in the team, but he is not in Lester’s class, especially in the air and on the deck.
