Autopsy 2025 Round 18: Swans swindle slow Saints

Here’s a novel idea.

If 2 players are grappling and both have hands on each other, call play on and don’t pluck a free kick out of the air.

Absolute farce some of the decisions today.

Most frustrated I’ve been at umpires all year.

On a positive side great effort today saints the tide will turn and the wins will come.

Proud of the boys today.

Moose looked good but let's not go blowing up over 8 touches and a goal. TDK was putting up midfield numbers at the start of the season.

Definitely keep the kid in for the last few games but maybe see what happens over a month or two.

Like I said in the match thread he showed a bit today but if we get TDK he won't be playing too many other AFL games for us.

We also have another promising young ruckman in Dodson in the VFL who could be better than Moose or even better than TDK.

We should keep playing him though to entice offers from other AFL clubs, there is talk that Roma could be on the trade table too.

Lyon has to produce more next year. We shouldn't be scared to push if he has another year looking as bad. If he's not got us on an obvious path by mid season we should look at replacing him. There is enough on the list to do more than we are.
Agreed. Was told 2025 was going to be the year. Has looked nothing like it.

Ok give him a Mulligan for 25, but we need to see substantial improvement in W/L next season.

I was happy for Moose but Grundy was dominant in the ruck with 48 hit outs. Obviously Marshall played a fair bit in there. Heath has a future as a back up ruck at least and should be playing in Keelers role.

The ruckman merry go round happens every trade period. No doubt moose will be discussed if we do sign TDK in the FA period. I look at every premiership ruck (with Gawn as the exception) and without fail they are solid honest competitors rather than stars. It’s just not a necessary component for flag winning teams.

I'm never arguing against that. Ruck's are the most overrated players in footy unless you're into SuperCoach. I'd never pay huge money for one.
If they ever scrap bouncing the ball I can see a little more value coming out of the middle. At the moment, a lot of the time it's pure chance on who gets to it first.

Spewing we didn't get the result, but again a lot to like. Garcia has that burst speed and ability to change angles. Hastie looked good and attacking. Windy was excellent. Great game from Stocker as well. Really like Hammer down back too although that last contest was one he wont want to see the replay of.

So happy for big Moose. Thought he competed very well. Gave a target and brought lots to ground. Its probably not a coincidence it was Sharmans and Owens best games in awhile.

Wood had a mare. Asides from the poor kicking think he tried to fly in a few times and actually spoilt good marking chances for his teammates.

We played well, I think we lack a bit of cohesion, which isn't surprising with a young team. Too many getting in each other's way in marking contests or all on one side of the pack. That will improve tho

Clearances were pretty much even.

Hit outs are a massively overrated stat.

Kind of a best of both worlds scenario since we didn't reeeally want the points (particularly with Essendon and Carlton both about to collapse into a heap) but still a bit deflating.

Heaps to like, but jeez that final five minutes was a mess. Sincs looked super frustrated with the Wood and Hastie kicks but I wonder why on earth he (Sincs) was in the F50 and not back where Hastie ended up playing? Just seemed whatever structure we had totally collapsed at the end.

If Moose doesn't get cleared the game's gone, he had arms out to take a mark, had eyes for the footy the whole time and McCartin came in from the side, it's impossible to even argue a duty of care type scenario for a player he wouldn't know was even there.

Be careful. Some of the mods are like the AFL when it comes to jokes.

Pfft, I'm not the one that crapped on about the umps and the viewing spectacle all gameday thread to continue spawning discussion in an autopsty.

Some of us are enjoying the joke still.

It was a decent display by the side but bloody frustrating viewing.

Didn’t think Windhager had a game like that in him. What a great wingers game. Did it on the inside and outside. Chopped out in defence and used it well going forward. He won’t get 35 every week, but he looks like he could be more than a role player, which I thought was probably his trajectory.

Hall also is improving at a really quick rate. Is showing top draw capabilities.

For a loss, that was a solid effort. Moose is above Keeler already.

Nas is so good to watch live, he is getting more and more audacious each game - that double feint into getting done HTB was hilarious, he really does have that FIGJAM about him, love it!

Wins don't really help us much now, and we still have the Dees, North, Richmond and Essendon to come. There will be some wins there.

IMO we should be going into next year with TDK, Heath, Dodson as our rucks with Keeler as a ruck/fwd

TDK + 1RDP for Marshall and like ~800k salary cap space is an absolute steal

Aleer also would've made a huge difference today. I want to see Caminiti play fwd again and see if he's learned from playing on the competition's best key forwards. Can also provide a chopout in the ruck if Keeler is not up to it

List is in a great spot by the looks. Kids are showing improvement every week - even guys like Said & Dodson in the twos. Max Hall, Garcia, Windy have been absolute revelations post-bye. Hastie is coming along well too. Tauru made some mistakes but better to make them now than in a few years in a big final

I think Keelers best is miles ahead of what Moose showed tonight. Keelers ceiling is enormous, it really just depends what we value.

In an ideal world we’d keep Nas and Roma and Dodson/Heath and Keeler will be the ruck/forward rotation for the next 15 years

To be fair so did Mick Malthouse. The defensive pressure game isn't winning us matches. It would be worth looking at coaching like every other aspect of our performance. It might be that he's the right person for the job but don't just let it rest.

We probably finish on 8 games and around 15th. He's taken us a fair bit backwards each year while we were meant to be playing off in a premiership.

Adelaide were bottom 4 last year and are in line for a flag now. A few tailored recruits and they look a serious side.

Bit of mayo on both of these.

Yes, when Ross came in the expectation was to get more out of the list.

That narrative is done now.

They clearly understand that a list turnover was needed and the transition from the Steele & RoMa generation running the team to Nas, Hall, Garcia, Windy etc taking over has almost been completed.

Don't forget that the major reason we thought there was more to come from the list was because the training standard and development programs had slipped well behind what the board were expecting.

As for the Crows;

Plenty had predicted them for this sort of rise 12 months ago. Last season was a disaster for them with plenty calling for Matty Nicks to get sacked.

They managed it well, backed him in, went shopping for a few important pieces and bounced right back up.

Nothing stopping TDK + 1-2 others from doing the same for us.

I'd be extending Lyon, he's building this list nicely, he's going to need 2 or 3 more years though. Gotta keep going to the draft and stockpile talent. There is no shortcut but Lyon has to be given the time to build the list.

If people check out the player sponsor thread they can see a brief report from my chat with Harry Boyd.

He mentioned that Heath has been working with the coaches as a forward for most of the season to try and add that string to his bow.

If TDK comes in, and Roma asks for a trade out, I can absolutely see a world with Tommy in the ruck and Moose at FF.

King then plays higher up the ground with Sharman as the floating 3rd tall and we finally, FINALLY, get a chance for Owens to play more midfield time and become our Isaac Heeney.
