Autopsy 2025 Round 18: Swans swindle slow Saints

We're getting plenty of answers on our list ATM. Moose doing enough to trump Boyd is great news and will doubtless see him get another year.
For me it was the most entertaining game for months, but I'm still all in for the Ollie Greeves cup.

I honestly don't know what we do with Hill. He has 2 more years, and I think Ross really values his direction/leadership on the field, but his kicking has fallen off a cliff and he is softer than ever at the contest.

Unless we drop him (which I just don't see happening), I think he's much better served on half forward providing that running link, and ideally a decent kick inside 50. We also severely lack leadership and structure up forward which he could help with? Just get him away from D50 please Ross.

So the coaches think rucks matter 👀
Looks like it. Which is why I think one of our very highest priorities has to be retaining Dodson beyond next year, when clubs could be coming for him thick and fast.

Especially the Adelaide ones, who would probably be in his manager’s ear already.

Likely to be a big big challenge, if we get TDK.

Exactly 💯
Knowing us we will go from pick 4 to 7
Essendon may not win a game
Carlton may not win a game
Greeves looks solid

Whatever we do with him can we at least try not letting him get caught out in one on ones in the D50. That would be a good start.

It's horrifying to watch.

100% agree, get him out of the backline. We need more movement ahead of the ball too. That run over the ball yesterday was embarrassing. Also i know Tauru fluffed the kick, but as a senior player why demand the ball in that position? High risk and low reward and his not a great contested player if it doesn't go perfectly. He did actually take a pretty good mark tho yesterday that surprised me

Lol, okay, im saying get fair value and dont **** him over and youre saying if it aint a first make the campaigner play twos but IM the emotional one.

Do i think were hiding things from him? I actually have no idea what youre asking.

Lets say Geelong courts him and he asks for Geelong as a destination.

Geelong absolutely refuses to even discuss a first rounder given his form, age and body concerns. But theyll do a second (or maybe our second for their first). Then i think we should take that. Put aside the the fact i think we should do a deal for a guy thats earned it, with TDK in Roma has absolutely no place in a first choice 23, its argurable he plays at all unless TDK goes down and at that point (as a pure backup) hes not worth a first for anyone.

We also get the luxury of an extra 800k (or whatever his salary is) back into the cap to top up the kids and retain say a Dodson to develop.

My suggestion on Roma isnt altruistic or emotional, im quite comfortable saying i think doing reasonable deals for guys over 30 that are quite clearly surplus to needs is fine to have some degree of respect to them, but this one also just makes sense for us even if you do wanna remove that element.

If Geelong wants to give us a first, great, do the deal, if they dont, id rather we dump the salary and use their second on Fincher as it is better for us long term. Retaining him to pay him a shitload to play VFL is stupid.

Nothing emotional at all in that decision making process.
Plenty of bodily fluids in your argument
That’s for sure.
The only thing we should be doing is giving him professional courtesy of contract and an understanding of where he sits in our structure. The bleeding for the club stuff is just emotional claptrap. He is a well paid professional doing a job he loves.
At the start of the year we had an injured ruckman with very limited to no backup so the club has moved to get someone in for the future that covers and moves on from Ro- that’s life. This has been argued about on here for ages. We have no back up for Ro of any substance.
So we use our bank blowout to get someone that will improve that all good as far as I’m concerned.
Every player in our team has competition for their spot so why is that not acceptable for a ruckman. If he doesn’t want to compete for his spot then that’s fine but I’m sure as f&/k not paying for another club to get a discount on his services because there is some misplaced sentiment around the bleeding player.

Didn’t think Windhager had a game like that in him. What a great wingers game. Did it on the inside and outside. Chopped out in defence and used it well going forward. He won’t get 35 every week, but he looks like he could be more than a role player, which I thought was probably his trajectory.

Hall also is improving at a really quick rate. Is showing top draw capabilities.
I assume that means top drawer?

There is room for both.

Demanding overs for a guy weve spat in the face of by bringing in a younger model on double the money if he wants to leave is just poor management, trading him for a second (which is imo about market rate) isnt altruistic, we save coin and either get points for the academy kid or scoop a player we might like.

I think were pretty juxtaposed here philosophically, im all for getting fair value and im all for being a campaigner on the NAS deal if he wants to go, Roma is vastly different, we gain nothing by behaving like assholes for a guy who will 100% be playing twos next year (barring injury).

If we let Marshall go cheap the backlash would be massive. Makes the TDK acquisition a bit of a weird decision too.

Wow, after recording equal-game-high clearance numbers in each of the last two weeks (10 and 8), and attending a game-high 26 centre bounces yesterday, Hugo didn’t trouble the scorers for a clearance yesterday!

A whopping 14 of our group registered at least one, and Wood and Windy both had equal-team-highs of 5, from the wings (0 CBA’s each), but not a single one from our best in that area over the previous two weeks, who attended the most centre bounces of anyone.

You’d have gotten fair odds about all that happening, prior to the game!

Steele got free a lot more than he has lately out of the middle. I guess that's a sign of respect that Hugo probably got manned by a better mid and struggled to impact clearance as much. He looked good during the actual game so maybe he won the ball back.

When was he subbed on? I thought it was during half time, but then I checked his tog% and it was 29% lmao

For a guy who plays out a whole game and only (at best) manages 75% of game time, for him to get 29% in what I presume was 2 full quarters is insane.

How long left on his contract? Doesn't have the tank for AFL footy. It's a real shame.

Does he smoke?

Didn't we extend him?

Marshall had one dump kick yesterday. Steele obviously focussed on not doing it to great effect. Garcia largely doesn't.

I mean, credit where it is due. We are playing a lot better in the midfield, and scored in the 80s yesterday. It's the defence (and that's on the whole team) that is not where it has been in previous seasons. Caminiti is learning but his mistakes seem to have major consequences. Hastie is young. Tauru was a bit ordinary yesterday.

You just need to find a way to win those games to make progress.

Yeah, that back 6 looked really suspect and disorganised. The forwards are still not firing also. Snags was leading the Coleman and now doesn't look like scoring a goal most weeks. Sharman and Owens doing a lot of work but not a lot of results for their output.

Yeah I think you have to be the first one in the chain of possessions that clears the ball from the area, to be credited with the clearance.

That was a wild set of numbers we had yesterday. Even Sharman had one!

It must have been from a ball up in the forward line though. He wasn't at any centre bounces.

From the options you've given i'd say 1).

He's been pretty good defensively and has a good ability to intercept as well. The only issue with Hammer down back is decision making. He can get a rush of blood to the head at times and make poor decisions by foot or hand or thinking he has more time and space than he does.

But.. He is young and only just played 50 games. I think in another 30-50 games he'll be a very solid defender who can swing forward if we ever need.

Looks a Liam Jones clone to me.
