I'd say at least 90% of premierships have a bit of fluke. Rarely the best team all year dominates through the entire season
100% and luck with injuries is a big factor as well.

A lot of Premiership sides over the years don't scoot through the finals winning in a canter, there is inevitably a close/lucky finals win in there somewhere in the journey to the flag.

thing for me is the earlier season losses you could understand - as annoying as it was that we just folded against giants and dees at home, they were desperate and we were comfortable

but it seems like such a poor effort deep in to the season, when top 4 is on the line

and maybe it means we are not quite there mentally, and also are struggling to cover our tall losses, and not really a contender

and that's okay

last year was all time greatness

and we should be contending next year

hoping they prove me wrong and we go deep

if not 7th or 8th is ideal from a 2026 point of view, imagine a middle 6 draw!

i will want to win every final we are in obviously, but that 7th / 8th could be our version of geelong's 2024 bounce Nd collingwood's 2025

I like getting done by 10 goals far better than getting done by 1-10 points.

Sometimes you need a good thrashing to get yourself going again.

Agreed, I'd be worried about next week if we lost by 1 to 10. It's like close enough to feel good about ourselves so the cracks get papered over again.

This loss is better either way. We make the hard calls, give someone like Big O a break and bring Henry Smith on if ready and see how we go. If Henry clicks this late in season, that's a bonus already. Whatever happens beyond that is reliant on our midfield standing up and saying "that's enough".

This is why I yearn to go back to the days where we got pumped by 10+ goals each week. It’s always been about the hot takes. I miss the hot takes.

I thought you wrote hot cakes and now I feel like pancakes.... Damn it Dewy!

A pole on 'is our season done' would be interesting. I think we are more at the hope stage rather than the confidence stage. Linc pulling the pin on this year and getting another year almost suggest it. Our coaching will be interesting for the rest of the year.
It would be the most predictable results from the most predictable posters. The people who wrote us off in round 8 last year are the same ones now saying winning the flag was a fluke.

we dropped rich and he was a much bigger figure to the club than O.

sadly i think oscar is the clear third worst option out of the rucks we have on the list right now.
Poor Oscar is a shadow of his best self - missed the premiership and is now probably playing full of injections and highly compromised in terms of what he wants to do. I guess it is why the Lions are chasing a ruckman like Draper - we almost certainly have a hole to fill.

I think we need to stop overreacting to one loss and show faith in the team. Yes, it was a very poor performance but I see it was similar last year against GWS. I would be more concerned if we played well and lost, which rarely happens.

I would keep the faith, expect a very strong response against the Magpies.

We got a reminder that are shite stinks as much an anyone else. We are only a 2-3 goal better team than most of the top 8/9 sides so if we are off it like that then things can fall away very quickly. It’s so even this year and it’s going to be harder than last year to win it. Our draw has been cooked and key injuries/ banged up players are hurting us.

Yesterday was very a disappointing game given the conditions should have played into a big scrap where bigger bodies could have made a difference.

We wanted the bruise free chip mark game early and didn’t crack in hard at contest. The suns were great but in reality they have had much harder games this year.

My perspective is that it's always between the ears with this team. We know how good they are, our best can beat anyone. When they have the intrinsic motivation (ie vs Hawthorn or Geelong this year), look out. Not sure what happened yesterday with top 2 or 4 on the line, but reckon we'll bounce back next week. They thrive on it

Be better and not a slob. We have won 13 games 1 darw out of 19 games. Gratitiude of what they have done rather than hang it on them when they have a bad day out like yesterday.
Never said i was a real supporter but have no hesitation in saying you are not.
Being a happy clapper isn't a prerequisite of being a supporter, Sunny. If you see an unacceptable performance (as yesterday was) you have every right to call it out. Hopefully constructively.

Constructively is more than acceptable and players/culb being accountable for poor performances is fine as well. Read his post. It was insulting and dis-respectful and maybe you would think differently before you defend him.
I’m far from a “happy clapper” mate. Comments like that arent relative to what I am pushing back on.I’ve called out players plenty of times for lack of effort/poor performances but there is a way of doing it and his is not.

I did read it. Thought it was an understandable viewpoint. Don't fully agree with it, but can see where they're coming from.

Flogged. Rowell & Anderson are close to the best 1-2 in the game, and the rest rose with them .

That said -

Bailey infuriates me, costs us more goals than he scores with defensive lapses and missed opportunities. Even when he kicked 5 he burnt a couple of team mates on prime positions.

Rayner was good, but he kicked 3 points in general play when a champ would nail at least 2 of them.

Charlie butchered a couple of gilt-edged opportunities. Others missed gettable opportunities.

And all at crucial times, changing the momentum.

I believe we sleepwalked into it thinking it's an easy kill after seeing what Adelaide did to them in the previous round. Once Suns got going and started kicking goals in wet from everywhere - we were in a state of shock/paralysis and no coming back from there.

“Lets be honest, last year was a fluke” in your opinion is an understandable viewpoint??? If not that one, how about” the players dont give a crap”???

In my opinion we need to sort out the rucking duties real quick. Big O looks like he’s in a world of pain and probably should be given the rest of the season off to be right for season 2026 if his body lets him. Forty is probably our best option however seeing him in the forward line just doesnt seem a good fit. Henry had a reasonable game yesterday so maybe either him or Day’s turn to come in and get the next 3 games under their belt and be ready for finals.

A great side that's been there for a while and really needs some rejuvenating got overwhelmed by the youth and endeavor of a side that is heading towards greatness, sick of losing to us and coming off a similar beating last week. Everyone needs a kick in arse every now and again, the greatest enemy of all elite athletes is complacency. They are beginning to believe and will do this to anyone not on their A-game.

The correct term is "everyone needs a kick in the nuts every now and again"

Wouldn't call it a fluke, but there's no doubt the cards fell absolutely perfectly for us. Yeah, the players don't give a crap is OTT, but again, there have been times this year where the application to the task has been pretty below par.

And as I said, I didn't fully agree with what was said.

As so-called premiership hangovers go this one has been pretty mild so far.
