Our midfield was beaten but it was annihilated, it was our connection inside F50 that was down;
And that was due to bris pressure, in a nutshell, they did to us what we normally do to the opposition, suffocate and force turnover. We rarely had free wheeling transition like we normally do off ball win / turnover.

Worse, the reason their mids (or in part) had a field day was because our phone box crew ran ahead of the ball before we won the ball - this happened at cb and around the ground stoppages.

Fix these things up and then we have (good) connection i50 again, like we had before our form slump.

I suspect this would've been addressed in the review and expect this will not happen tonight.

Not much discussion of how a fit JDG could have a major influence tonight.
Let hope he fires.
He looked good last week, just needs to get those ball handling skills up to scratch. Hopefully another step forward tonight and he’ll be at 90% with a bullet after that.

Just hoping he contributes well tonight, not expecting him to be the match winner quite yet

The last time we beat Hawthorn twice in a season the year was 2011 and the game was a preliminary final.

Tonight must be the most consequential game against them since that occasion.

Here's hoping history repeats.
I’m 2010 and 2023 we lost to them late in the season then went on to win the premiership.

I’m hoping we win but if not I hope some other history will repeat itself.

given our midfield issues, we cannot start the game with JDG as the sub, we will need all hands on deck. Sub JDG off if we have the game under control. We have a 9 day break until we play adelaide, we need to roll the dice.

I’m choosing to look at tonight one way and one way only. If we win, we’ll have not only saved our top 4 hopes but proven that we belong there. Hawthorn are a quality outfit and will make us earn it, if we can get a victory then the pressure should ease a bit.

A loss tonight and our hopes of a double chance will likely hinge on other results (and taking care of Melbourne) unless we knock off Adelaide next week, but I’d much rather dictate our own fate tonight!

Fingers crossed we all get to go to work tomorrow with the adrenaline of a Thursday night, season defining win.

If we have the game under control it should be Howe or Pendles off. Jordy needs every minute of game time he can muster!

The last time we played Hawthorn Jamie and Mihocek kicked nine goals between them, yet they’ve only been averaging about two goals a game in recent weeks. The whole forward line needs to lift and we need to kick more goals than we’ve been kicking.I think the forward line’s under performance has gone under the radar lately with so much attention given to our midfield and backline.

I would argue the forward line haven’t benefited from some ordinary inside 50 deliveries from our mids. Hopefully that changes tonight.

Good point
Goal kicking also declined

Potentially win this lose next week and belt Melb we get third spot and hopefully v Cats it'll be at the G, so like top 2, right?

On another note, who is the next wood duck to get a bag tonight against us? Dear?

Big game coming from jack crisp… never gets attention and has been quiet of late.. cmon boys lift !!!!!

Inside-50 conversion rate has dived.

Taking fewer shots for goal and missing more of them.

Time to be done with all that nonsense. Sh*t gets real tonight.

Pretty simple really. Our destiny is in our own hands. Win the next 3 games and we finish top. To be the best, we need to beat the best. The next 2 games will be a great tune up for our premiership tilt.

Pies by 22.
Dont think Fly cares about finishing first, he wants top 4, or top 2 or ahead of Lions so Pies dont travel interstate.

Given the sub usually comes from the emergency list and with Markov out, it likely won’t be WHE.

It’s an interesting bench actually . Hope the sub isn’t JDG and extremely unlikely it’s Howe. I’m guessing it’s Mitchell but it could be Membrey

Houston… surely not but possible!
It definitely won’t be someone named on our bench. I can guarantee that
