Autopsy Round 22 = Hawthorn 110-46 Collingwood

I think it’s this much more than any disgruntlement over contracts or Fly having lost the players.

Unfortunately we still won’t have Howe against Adelaide, but I would expect a totally different performance overall off a 10-day break.

I think the heavy loading strategy has bitten us badly, because we lost the games during the loading period (Frematle was a monumental ****up in hindsight) and still look like utter garbage now during the light period. It clearly has not helped.
I can accept a lot of theories and angles but right now not the Fly has lost the players part. I’m willing to bet the Club and player environment is the best it’s been in decades. Maybe even (looking from the outside in) the best it’s ever been.

Collingwood email just hits my inbox "Are you travelling to Adelaide..."

Collingwood need to give me space today! lol

Same. I got the email and thought “You c**ts for real bro?”

Still kinda depressed and struggling to process how this season is turning out after being ridiculously confident we’d be going all the way all of pre-season

I think Collingwood fan at the G last night was shocked when this happened. The eerily still silence for the next 5 minutes was something I have not experienced for some time.

But what was even more shocking was the tepid response from Collingwood. This flog wasnt even challenged when he came back on. We allowed this incident to set the tone for the rest of the night.

Weak as Pi$$ Collingwood.

So god dammed angry this morning
Bang on.

And after initial shock this would have spurred any strong united side into action.
But that's not what we are right now.

My 2 bob's worth. With September in mind for a while now, there has been an inner belief that if we bring our best to the table in September we give ourselves every chance. The Freo game was an anomaly because we smashed them with tackling i have not witnessed before and somehow lost. That tells me we have that style of game in our locker but in a game of attrition you need all your soldiers ready in September if that is what it will take to get the job done. So, my belief is we have it in us contrary to last night. I saw none of what we brought v freo last night and after Howe went down and remembering what happened to Nick 2 years ago against the Hawks maybe it should not come as a surprise. Our boys have the heart and the grit and the brutality to give us every chance. I rest on that and nothing else, not a home final, not a week's rest, that, our best game. It doesnt just go away. Its an all of team thing. Win it from wherever we finish. I believe. We. Can.

That's all we have to hang our hat on. The proof will be in the pudding. We are led to believe that we will shine in September with all the resting and player management. It's something I suppose but we look shaky atm

Maybe not the final result - but I think in terms of youthful exuberance it’s something we need

I would relish that as a young guy - yeah we’re getting beaten, but I’m going to apply pressure, do my 1 percenters, and learn what real AFL pressure is about

No doubt - and there’s no shame in getting well beaten
It’s how and the selections you make

I’m still pondering our use of Houston and Perryman - it’s like Ryan in the 2s, why not swing the magnets and try to get them near the ball?
Why not have Houston take kick ins - even if it’s once the game is lost - it would do him good to strike the ball more often

Houston had 5 of our 7 kick-ins. Moore and Jaicos 1 each.

Wishful thinking. Losing 4 of out last 5 to top 4 teams and getting smashed just before finals is not the look of a premiership team. Our last good win was against Adelaide half way though the season. We've beaten shit teams in saints wce Richmond and Carlton.
We won't get top 4.

We're cooked.

Afternoon all. I am relatively new here and enjoy the banter. I have been a member since my father purchased me a season ticket in the rush stand at Victoria Park in 1982. Pretty sure we are all struggling today so I thought I would pass this on for what it’s worth. I have two really good mates both incredibly decent guys who are ex AFL players. They’re still significantly involved in the game. One of them is a two times premiership player in the last 15 years. I had coffee with them this morning. Neither of them played for or supported Collingwood. These are a couple of their observations.
1 we have been massively loading up training and have been unlucky with some injuries to complementary players that had a compounding impact (Hill and Mcreery, Frampton, Howe).
2 If confidence is slightly off in a playing group the gap between teams can be massive and can look bigger than what it is. 3 Howe’s out was enormous and had a huge impact both for losing him, but also for Really screwing the structure. It left Frampton terribly exposed when he needed a game to get a bit of confidence back. 4 We’ve played three games in the past month against teams who have essentially been playing their grand final. 5 Our best is not far away and come finals. We will feel that we can beat anyone anywhere. 6 MacRae‘s press conference was a strong message to the team. 7 It’s a new season come September. Don’t lose faith. The conversation from impartial, intelligent, connected ex-players who aren’t solving for sensationalism was helpful - passing it on for what it’s worth. Have a good day all.

I admire your belief but can't get there myself. We have holes everywhere.

We are literally the slowest team in the comp. We keep surrounding Nick with stodgy, slow, low-skill midfielders. Our Captain is in a form/confidence slump and is surrounded by very poor tall defenders. Only one of our MMM tall forward combo kicks multiple goals with any regularity. Our best ball users (other than Nick) don't spend enough time playing on the ball. And above all of that, the entire team seems bereft of confidence.

I'm expecting a heavy loss against the Crows, a narrow win over the Dees and then a Week 1 exit from Finals. If it plays out that way, we'll end up losing six of our final eight matches, after being 13-2 at one stage.

We're cooked.

2023 we won the premiership and these were our last 5 rounds of the season -

Carlton LOST 76 to 93
Hawthorn LOST 73 to 105
Geelong WON 109 to 101
Brisbane LOST 100 to 124
Essendon WON 101 to 31

No different to what is happening no and that was a premiership year.

We already had top2/4 sewn up. Stop with comparing 23 to 25. It's not the same.

Exactly. The way we're headed we won't even finish top 4. Even if we did sneak in 4th it would mean going away to Adelaide or Brisbane. The form were in good luck with that.

We've been shit since beating Adelaide.

Just a shocking performance all round.

Started horribly with the concussion to Howe just over 1min in, then our captain spoon fed an assist to Wizard for their first goal.

I think their second goal was from a dropped Frampton mark.

That was the night really.

Trying to stay positive. Though this game was the hardest to watch since round zero, and it’s a struggle right now to maintain belief.

I remain eternally optimistic and go into every game thinking we CAN win, no matter how unlikely. Some years it’s rewarded, others not so much so. Last night was grueling to watch, but I’ll sit through a replay regardless of that. On to next week.

Brisbane won it from 5th last year. Sometimes when you want something really badly like most fans do. they end up in an anxious rabbit holes. We were first 2 years ago, and the majority of fans had lost all faith by the end of the home and away. Remember that. First and most had given up hope. This time around we are a bit older, somethings didn't go as expected i.e., re freo and gold coast, fk it, that's how it goes. We need to win 4 instead of 3 in September with a rest week in the lead up. We are a club with a great history in finals, they will give it everything. We arent carlton.
