Enter the draft 😅
Ok buddy

I am highly skilled and sought after professional at the top of my game. I am uncontracted.

An employer of my choice offers me a contract on X dollars at X location. I agree to these terms.

But I'm then forced into a draft of unknown employer and unknown location.

You think that's not a restraint of trade?

You would be laughed out of kindy.
Restraint of trade??

It can’t be restraint of trade to operate within the rules that the AFLPA has agreed to as a representative of their members (the players).

  • Club either gets a satisfactory deal to trade
  • you stay
  • take your chances in the draft.

They are the rules and they apply to everyone. Irrespective if Port offer Nasiah $10m a season but only offer 3rd and 4th round picks. Which the same digests.

Most value was probably Tom Boyd, who was what was thought to be a generational Centre Half Forward and 1 year gone First Pick and still under contract. Ryan Griffen and pick 6. That's the best deal that has ever been. An out of contract half back flanker, no matter how good he is, ain't getting better than that.
How is this relevant to today? Not a single trade in that list involves current rules of 2 years of future picks being eligible to trade.

Can ask for it but why would Rachele possibly want to leave the Crows and go to a Saints team without Nasiah.
Oh i agree. It would only really be in the frame if he was happy to move back to victoria. But i doubt it as it was himself and soligo who started the trend at the club of signing on long term and creating stability others have bought into...and he no doubt sees success on the horizon at the club too

Agreed.

West coasts pick 1 and their future first.

Get it done.
Saints are not getting pick 1 and a future 1st 🤦 Geeze you come up with a lot of garbage. Hypocrite too.

If pick 1 was involved any other picks given would be at most a 2nd round pick and as I said, at most. It would realistically come down to pick 1 and late round picks swapped between the clubs because list management would figure out what other late picks are needed for other trades or draft picks. Pick 1 and a future 1st is just getting ridiculous now and you of all people lately keep stating saints won't get 100% the value they want and blah blah blah yet keep making comments that are way overblown for this trade. If the trade even goes ahead. The only way it would be 2 firsts is if its balanced out or 3 firsts that again, are balanced out.

For those saying Saints should just accept Pick 7 this year (will be pick 10 after academy and F/S) and a Future 1st (likely mid to late teens) - those picks are basically worthless compo for a top 5 player in the comp.

Force him into the PSD if you have to. The AFL will likely roll over at the thought of that contractual situation and force Port to offer up more.

We can throw in Finlayson as well if you’d like?

Yes they do fella.

The AFL rules would not hold up under court scrutiny.

If a big named and highly paid player is forced to do something they really don't want to by the AFL rules. They will take it to the court . The court will decide the AFL rules are an unlawful restraint of trade

This is what the AFL will make sure doesn't happen.

A solution of convenience will be found.

That’s simply not true.

The same AFL who ticked off this trade?

The thought of Poort gaining another generational talent from a small club for absolute peanuts boils my blood.
The thought of Norf getting year after year of charity from the rest of the competition because of its own incompetence boils mine so welcome to the club

The top end talent in this draft is extremely average the best coulple players are tied to academy’s , if given the opportunity west coast would happily trade pick 1 and a future for nas without thinking twice

It's irrelevant if this draft or 2026 draft or even 2027 draft is average or has not many options or just bad overall and in all honesty it's just plain ignorance and stupidity to go off that as a basis to then state it must be more 1st rounders to compensate seeing as there has been countless picks in 2nd rounds, 3rd and 4th late picks over the last 2 decades that have been exceptional players providing their club actually develops them sufficiently. Example being the cats on that one. So a 1st round pick is just that. And no player at any point should be worth more than 2 first round picks and perhaps later picks exchanged regardless of whether they are a top 5 or top 10 player in the league and also regardless of whether clubs can now use 2 years future draft picks to trade. If Eagles want to trade pick 1 because they don't believe it is worth having this year then that's their choice however it doesn't negate the true value of pick 1.

Whats the alternative?

Do you really think he is joining the Eagles as pick 1 in the PSD or something?
You think St Kilda is going to let WC get him at pick 1 in the PSD for nothing rather than take two future firsts and a player like Whitlock?
And then when Nas requests a trade after his one year contract at WC is over, WC get the two future firsts?
Nah. Why would St Kilda give that advantage to WC who are in competition with their own rebuild?
Have a look at the history of the players who have gone to the PSD. Look at their value and the situation the club was in when they did that.

Luke Ball went to Collingwood in the PSD the year that St Kilda had finished minor premiers and lost the GF.
Nick Stevens went to Carlton in the PSD the year that Port finished minor premiers and lost a preliminary final.

Then the other players that ended up in the PSD did so because the pick the club was offered was of no value to them. Jackson Hatley went to the PSD because GWS had no use for pick 40 that year. And as history has shown, he wasn't worth a that pick anyway.

A player of Nas quality isn't getting sent to the PSD for nothing.
