How in hell can it take this long to work out if a suspension is warranted or not, friggin hell three days so far and still no answer.

He’s clearly going to be suspended. I imagine the delay is around Adelaide trying to argue he should be able to play the GF if they make it (ie a 3 week ban - which could also have him back for a prelim if they go the long road).

Finnalyson got 3 weeks and then Powell got 5 weeks (the AFL said they gave him 2 weeks more because it was only a few weeks after what Finnalyson did to deter this from happening in the future) and Collard received 6 weeks because the slur was deem "highly aggressive" and was reported by club official. Graham received 4 weeks this year (presumably 1 week less because of "self report" which Powell also did so maybe he was meant to get 6), McAndrew got 6 weeks (a week more than the 5 Graham would have received). Maybe the AFL has rewound it to 3 weeks ago, what a convoluted shit show they got themselves into.

Whether an action constitutes an offence is a question of law, not fact. Was it high or low impact + Was it deliberate or incidental. + + + etc
On the contrary, a homophobic slur is a question of fact. Did a person say a thing or not. If yes, guilty.
Like speeding. Cops don't give a F what your reason for speeding is. They only care if you are speeding, or not.

Not always. While not obliged to do so, the police often ask if you had a reason for exceeding the speed limit.

If something were said about Rankine's partner it would be a dog act, and depending on the exact nature, yes, might be punishable.

But in plain English, no, it's not the same as using a slur that is widely recognised to express hatred towards a marginalised group.

Now, you know what Rankine said. In the unlikely event you actually want to have an intellectually honest conversation, provide a specific example of what your imagination suggests might have been said to him, and you'll get an answer.

Every man can have their opinion but it's a long bow to draw to claim that personal insults about someone's partner are definitely better than using an expletive that has historically been a slur.

I have seen how they dealt with those cases. Does anyone know did those cases go for 3 or 4 days before the suspension was handed down ?
