I'm gonna be one out here, but unless this was discussed with Gov a few weeks back, it's an absolute piss poor decision. Total disrespect for Gov imo.

Voss coming out during the week talking him up, then doesn't select him. I wonder if Voss would have selected him if his job was still on the line.

And we wonder why there's rumours of players wanting out if that's the way we treat our own.

Anyway, rant over....come at me, I've got the suit of armour ready and waiting.

If he needed the 1 game to trigger an extension at a certain salary level, perhaps we are trying to get our cap in order and will offer him a contract at a reduced rate. While I feel for him in that he has played 17 games this year and been fit to play 3 more, on top of 18 last year, I dare say form has been the motivating factor in withholding that contract.

Seems like this will be the first games we have an average age <25 unless my memory fails me

Lower than Essendon's average age and games too. They have 12 players with 100 games or more, we have 10. We have 9 players 21 or under, they have 6.

Yet the narrative will be about Essendon's young team, their injuries and how Carlton should be winning this game.

The likelihood is the triggered year in Govs contract is much more than his output and value is to the team. It sounds like we want him to stay but on our terms. And I have absolutely no issues with that.

Gotta come in here brother.
In life, and in football, you earn your respect.
Don’t know what kinda bloke he is outside the fence but inside it … he’s earnt nothing …

It should be a thanks for your service Mitch, but we are going in a different direction decision. Saves us $400-500k (?) off the books?

He'd be on more than that. Average salary is more than that.

Feel like we don't win many last games of the season but hopefully they come out with the same intent as last week. Some quicker ball movement and less long down the line plays. * will come out firing given it is Merrett's 250th

Which is why I hoped that it was discussed with Gov beforehand, which I'm sure it was. It's just not a good look.

I also hope we offer him a contract at a reduced rate....especially if we lose JSOS, and HO'F out for the year. He divides opinions, but we'll be pretty threadbare down back next year, unless we already have a back up plan.

Certainly wasn’t subtle. Expect/hope Gov may have been given the option if foregoing the trigger for a swansong. I am in the group who wants to move past him, but this is brutal. Just hope the incoming are an upgrade and not some of the dross being discussed.
