Autopsy Round 24, 2025: Positives and Negatives vs Sydney

Deluge of late goals, as per usual. Build those tanks in the offseason and it could really start to build.

Positives

• Shanahan, again
• Cripps, Graham, Baker, Kelly all good. Important for Cripps and Kelly given they’re the areas we desperately need some seniors to lift up the kids.
• Ginbey is so ****ing good, and hopefully has avoided anything major. Shades of the wait on Hough from R24 last year.
• Newton worth another rookie listing for sure. Taken his six month audition with both hands.
• Chesser, I get it. Sign him up.
• We’ve had some genuinely good periods this year, despite the heinous win-loss, where oppo teams capitulate to our loose ball pressure and can’t chip the ball through our zone. You can see the vision. When it’s on it’s on. We’ve taken it right up to some really polished sides with a massive talent disparity through system. Now time to add the sustained effort and keep piling up the talent.

Negatives, please yourselves.

It’s turning, excited to see the growth in year one to year two.

There was… unfortunately it get’s swamped by the negatives, but a lot of green shoots. A shame we couldn’t turn a couple of those close losses into wins, we’d be feeling (slightly) better.

I’ve tried to stay pretty level headed about this season considering the amount of youth we’ve played compared to previous seasons and the few gems we’ve found.

For the most part I’ve felt like we’ve had a better season than last even with the solitary win. But to end the season like that, even though I was half expecting it, makes it hard to justify that feeling.

A 67-point thrashing after being 7 points up at half time is just ****ed.

One win season and people are chasing vibes and greenshoots. The only positive is we can't possibly field a weaker team next year. So on that notion we may win 2 games or atleast match our 1 win season

Really killed any optimism about our young midfield going into next year too unfortunately. Hewett fumbles, gee. McCarthy probably our best in there today.

Tonight’s game basically sums up the season:

• Plenty to like from the youth
• Competitive and up for the fight for a half
• Capitulation and ultimately ending in major disappointment

Been a rough year. Thank **** it’s over. 1 win. This is as bad as it’s going to get. There’s only one way up from here. I’m excited for the future for this crop though.
