The Crows and the AFL handled it poorly and brought unnecessary attention on to all involved.

The AFL has a duty of care to all players, even the ones who have ****ed up. They should be looking after Quaynor, Rankine AND anyone else effected.

Perhaps a few calls to the media to stop building the QF up as anything more than an important game in the context of this season is needed. All this talk about how hostile the game and crowd will be is not helping.

What struck me odd these times was that there were no rainbow flags in anyone's profile, and the gave hadn't even started, so it wasn't said out heat of the moment, they just came out of nowhere and for no reason.

Homophobia in footy is 100% an issue but I think it’s a separate thing to what goes on in video games.

Sorry dude, but other than blowing his own trumpet, what exactly did the he bring to table? I get that he aligns with your sympathies but the notion that medical records should be avialable for public consumption as supported by his 'certificates in social awareness' is mind numbling stupid in the extreme. In football (and a lot of other sports) culture, people are generally mocked and ridiculed for differing from the stereotypical “norm”. Some of it is harmless, some of it is toxic and harmful, e.g. this whole issue.

Video game culture I think is a little different in that it’s mostly teenagers and young men who think they’re being edgy and funny just saying deliberately offensive things.

I could be way off on that, but IMO the underlying issues there are a bit different and therefore need to be addressed differently.

Misogyny, racism, homphobia are just rife in gaming. Its a hard nut to crack in terms of showing people online they are out of line. Like to think ive at least tried to call it out when ive been online and seen it occurring, but it is hard.

Keep the appearing in your games. I do also have it where i can and i love interacting with other other gamers who are like minded. Its almost like a secret society where unwavering respect/support is given once its known.

What youve mentioned above is why it was so important for Rankines use to be called out and stamped immediately as inapproriate and a punishment given , quickly and swiftly without negotiation. Feel like the AFL would want their time again
