Sounds like he will. No backsies. You guys unsettled him, splashed the cash.

And like nearly all trades, you shall pony up at a premium for a contracted player.

We could split our Pick 7 into a couple of lower picks and you’ll get offered one of those.

Posturing will continue for weeks, the deal will get done and we’ll all be home in time for tea and medals.

We will offer fair market value for an aging small forward
But, like mentioned of the all the players we are trading in this year TDK, Aleer, JSOS, Flanders etc Ryan is the lowest priority
Personally, hope he goes to Collingwood
We won't have our first rounder.
We dont have a second.
We are committed to an NGA kid so need the picks.
Our f2nd is for Aleer
Not alot left

Aging = still in his 20s for the entire first season as the new club?

Are you sure?

Of the list of players memtioned a small forward is the least priority due to being 30 on 2026, his output and performance plus being a position we have cover with Higgins kicking 46 goals.

Ryan isn't the same player he was back in 2020.

Will be a fair trade between lyon and your coach as they have an incredibly close relationship for the past 20 years.

Could be beneficial to both clubs.

28 is not "ageing". all Australian small forward mate.

he clearly isn't "lowest priority" when offering him 4 years and making him come out and commit.

I am not here to sort out your problems for you but perhaps you should have thought all of that before getting him to stick his neck out. won't be a good look with his manager if he is lied to.

It's up to Ryan's manager to make sure a deal can be brokered before Liam tells West Coast that he wants to hit the road at his exit interview.

The trade for Liam Ryan isn't a problem

If he nominates st kilda we will do a fair trade but, we are more interested in players in our age profile, have more potential, suit a positional need and have more performance output than Liam Ryan who turns 30 in 2026.

To spell it out clearly we have better players we are trading for first.
Aleer, Flanders, Mackenzie and potentially JSOS then Ryan.

Much prefer he stays at West Coast

well its too late for where you prefer he stays. you have already wooded him and committed effectively to him, enough for him to ask for a trade. So its on you.

Going in with a third would not be fair because fair at end of day is what's acceptable to west coast. And I am talking about ACCEPTABLE. So if it means splitting your pick then so be it. but remember you made commitments to Ryan, an all Australian and in contract. unsettled him with his current club when in contract. and what, now you will go cheap?

your club didn't consider what fans want before getting to this stage and he is far more valuable to us than you given where we are at. and given state of affairs, thats st Kilda's problem, not west coasts.

thats reality of it and you can talk all you like about what st Kilda fans want till cows come home.

well its all saints responsibility given they would have advised his manager for Liam to stick his neck out. don't blame manager, this is all st Kilda. st Kilda would have made firm commitments to Liam to get him over the line.

look these situations are always difficult as it happens at all clubs. but such a commitment to a contracted player? I mean WOW, imagine if you back out now given how far it has gone and angst that has caused to his family. He has young kids mate, this affects them off the field. You guys would have known all that.

so saints fans need to stop with cheap trades.

Pick 25 would have been pretty much spot on in this draft IMO. Wont be hard to work out and WC are fine with him leaving, no matter whatever public front they put up.
Yeah it feels like a lot of unnecessary chest bearing going on in this thread at the moment. Stk and WC will figure out something that works for both parties, it's not the kind of trade where one or the other need to get screwed.

West Coast will get along the lines of a second round pick, which will help them in their rebuild much more than a player who plays best when the team is winning.

St Kilda will get a player who will provide a marking threat in the F50, and who invaluable finals experience, which will be a lot more valuable to us that what we will give up.

Everyone wins, except Liam Ryan, who now no longer knows how old he is.

First up, Saints fans don't do the trades. The club employs people to do that. Saves us all a lot of time.
St Kilda can't make firm commitments to anyone if they don't know if a deal can be done. They can express an interest to the players manager.

Ryan's manager needs to be sure that another club can get a deal done with West Coast before Liam announces to the media that he wants to leave.

Ryan hasn't nominated St Kilda because no firm commitments can be made.

And I don't think St Kilda are the only team interested in Ryan.

But, sometimes clubs value players differently right?
If eagles want more than what we are prepared to pay we walk away.
Happens all the time.
Happened last year with the saints and a player from carlton we offerred a contract to and we walked away.
That's football.

Ryan wouldnt have asked for a trade unless he and his manager knew that what west coast would accept matched up with what prospective clubs would be willing to offer, or be near enough.

Someone - most likely the Saints at this stage - is willing to offer fair value which is not a measly f2 pick

well saints should have checked on that value before getting him to stick his neck out and put his family through it with potential backlash. its far more sensitive with indigenous players.

not sure who that Carlton player is (Kemp)? but did he go down this far into it? can't remember

Eagles list management isnt completely stupid (like some may be thinking)

You come after a contracted player, and get them to ask for a trade, its on you to pay up fairly.

They know that, they had it the other way around when going after Baker last year.
