Lions hold the box seat with this potential trade. Ridley wants to come to a successful club that has its employees interests at heart. Brisbane has invested a substantial amount of AFL dollars into the clubs medical and performance offices.

Remember Ridley management leaked this and he wants to come to us to salvage his career. Lions can either entertain it or just sit it out and get Riddles management to go to work to make their client wishes come true. The longer this goes on riddles already compromised value (injuries and long term contract) will continue to be eroded.

All it takes is for riddles to come out and say this move is hogwash and it all goes away. The longer there is no official word from him and his management the more confident I am the Lions will get a steal.

Compared over past few years with Charlie Ballard who wouldn’t get rated anywhere near as highly.

Ridley - fewer intercept possessions, intercept marks, spoils, a much worse 1v1 defense loss %. Ridley worse in just about every key defender defensive metric.

He clearly a nice ball user and gets lots of uncontested possessions in the back half.

But is someone who is defensively ok (not great) and gets a bunch of uncontested defensive half ball really in the game style of any of the top teams?

Tom Stewart goes alright for Geelong.

Keep in mind many of those metrics aren’t adjusted for the level of defence Essendon plays up field

That’s probably the most likely scenario but how often in the past does a players manager leak this news without some sort of backing. Rarely if ever a PM goes rogue and tries to force a trade when no one is in the know about this.

I think if Starc goes, Riddle will be someone Lions would certainly look at. Starc is a much better player but he wants his bag if the reported are true (4 years at 1.1m). Lions probably won’t match that.

I’d ask for their 2026 and 2027 firsts, but offer to pay 100% of his salary to 2029. Likely to be picks in the early twenties (2026) and in the thirties (2027).

Would Lester even get a game if they got Ridley

Who is Ridley? I haven't heard of him. Is he a Premiership defender? Lester is. If this Ridley bloke comes to Brisbane, he is depth at best.

Fagan is the current Premiership Coach and he said last week that Lester is the first name on the magnet board. Brisbane have made Finals every year since 2019 and won four Premierships this century. Essendon won the flag in 2000 and have done next to nothing since. They haven't won a final since 2004 and I think this sustained period of under and poor performance has impacted on the way some of their supporters view the game.

Lester is a GUN and he is most likely to be a DUAL PREMIERSHIP PLAYER by the time the finals are over.

It’s a vocal minority you’re talking about, most realise he’s an absolute gun. It’s also Bigfooty where supporters of clubs feel the need to posture themselves as though they’re list managers, goes both ways.
