List Mgmt. Welcome Campbell Chesser (Pick 14, 2021 National Draft)

Don't know why Chesser would be pushing for more than 2 years, his value right now is about as low as it can get. If he thinks he can make it as an AFL footballer, he should be expecting to negotiate a significant pay rise in 2 years time. But if he's worried that this might be his last contract before he's turfed, we're not losing much if he leaves.

Ryan Daniels said the years and money of both offers (ours and Carlton’s) were the same.

In that case it's bizarre that he'd look to leave our basketcase of a club in exchange for Essendon or Carlton, who have been basketcases for 25 years now.

They're also both on a downward trajectory while we can't get any lower!

Is he stupid?

Clearly it's the manager who is playing funny buggers here and he's the "source close to Chesser" telling the media he is leaning towards Carlton.

It seems clear to me what's going on here. They are trying to get us to up the contract in terms of coin or years and who better to help than the media.

I'm happy to offer a third with triggers involved if that's the sticking point or if it's money then throw him a little more of that too to get the signature.

The more kids with promise we keep on the list the higher the percentage we find a few who become best 22 and Chesser has that potential.

I have doubts he makes it, however an injury plagued player with this age profile and games experience is a a risk to pass on. Lots of players have launched from this position. It's why I wouldn't be against recruiting Deven Robertson for something like a third rounder.
Doubt you will have to give anything for Robertson as he will more than likely be delisted.

I just hope we don't, regardless of cost.

I would not see any harm in offering him 3 if it meant keeping him, he clearly has the ability to play and the only possible question mark is injury.

What embarrassing or insane takes? That he’s worth more to us than a f2? Prior to his recent AFL run for the whole year the most complimentary thing I’ve had to say was that it’s too soon to write off the bloke.

I say he’s a first round pick as that’s indicative of his talent/potential, players that get taken in the first round are more likely to possess the athletic/football traits required to be good/elite players, Brander from the outside looking in appeared to be mental and not a similar case.

More importantly than where he was picked was across the last 4 games he’s shown to be an above average wingman despite only playing two seasons worth of games, in the worst team in history, coming back after a season long injury and still being 22.

I think we’d get a f2 in a trade, I also believe he’s far more valuable to us than that.

He’s shown absolutely everything that a top wingmen requires.

Aside from injury, what trait would you believe stops him from being a good footballer? Because I don’t see any particular weaknesses in his game based on his last 4 weeks.
His biggest weakness is he's only displayed 4 weeks of decent footballing in 5 years. Not world beating footballing, decent.

Jeez people!
He’ll ether stay in Perth because he has great friendships here and likes the lifestyle, or he’ll go home be around family a lot more and spend more time with old friends.
Every persons family situation is different and guides our decision making more often than not.
Most people choose to live close to family, it’s pretty normal isn’t it?

I don’t think we are in position to be advising anyone on who is a basket case. Both of those teams have a lot more talent than we do.

Not young talent though. THey aren't on the up without serious incoming young talent.

Yeh? What talent apart from Reid and ginbey do you think we have? Essendon young players include Zach Reid, Kako, caddy and Durham. These are top notch youngsters who are performing.

Up against Harley Reid and maybe ginbey who are certainties. And that’s it. Rest is still speculation.

So let’s not analyse others and talk about up and coming talent. They have a few other logs on fire which could take 2-3 years.

I'm pretty confident that Jobe Shananan, Brady Hough and Tom (not so young) McCarthy are close to certainties. I reckon Hewett, Maric and (surprisingly) Harry Edwards are pretty good bets for at least 150 gamers.

And we have a long string of players who've shown something, of which I like the chances of at several to be successful (Chesser, Brockman, Brock, J.Williams, Dewar, Long, Hutchinson, Hall, A.Reid, Davis, Gross). These are the guys that when the team improves as game plans get ingrained, as the top players get better, they just look so much better suddenly, because it's a team game, not all individuals.

A good team is not made up of all champions - it's made up of a few very good players, and a lot of players who can fill a role.

Pro's: He finally showed something after 4 years
He suits Mini's gamestyle
He has about 5-6 moments of brilliance over those 4 weeks
His production was much better

Negatives:
He had shown very little prior to this
He has amost 6 years of injury or not playing history (back to the age of 16)
It was all shown in dead rubbers where we were a certainty for the spoon and Mini was giving everyone a go
He's cracked 20 disposals once at AFL level (in 1 of his 4 games this year) in a 94 point loss with terrible disposal efficiency.

If he goes he goes, hopefully it's a pick upgrade next year. If he stays he stays and he's shown enough for a contract but not for anymore than 2 years just in case he spuds it up next year he can be paid out.

Yeah, this is a terrible reading of where our lists are comparably for young talent.

His previous form/low disposal counts had a lot to do with the gimp wing that Simmo had in his gameplan. The player there basically runs all day protecting the outer wing but doesnt get used that often.

Simmo said that Masten was perfect for it given his running ability and Chris was happy to play if it gave him a role in the team. Mastens highest disposal average was under Worsfold. His latter years under Simmo he was averaging under 20 disposals.

Chesser got the opportunity for the gimp wing given he has similar ability but it meant he never got to fully showcase anything else. Not saying he is a superstar but its obvious he looks better under Mini's system.

And it all adds up to a maximum of a 2 year contract. It's really a no lose situation.

Who would you guess has had more 20 possession games at AFL level? Dev or Chesser?
This is the part that frustrates me, the same blokes wanting to only give Chesser 1 year , are fine paying for the privilege of worse footballers in Erasmus/Robertson/Hobbs.
