Recommitted Jordan Ridley [UFA 2029] - name was floated for a move to Brisbane in 2025, stayed

Was talking to a player agent late yesterday and he mentioned he had heard that the two clubs are initially miles apart in their valuing of Ridley.

His words were "20% chance this gets done at the moment, or he finds a way to another club"
If it is Lions pushing Ridley they will get it done unless it's just Ridley wanting out we've never not gotten a deal done under Fages and Ambrogio

My bet would be Brisbane are looking to grab a distressed asset who wants out for a bargain

Essendon is asking for what you’d expect an elite defender to fetch

Seems like Trac from last year where Ridley won’t get traded because he’s too valuable to Essendon and he will just have to cope with that.

Especially with Essendon revamping their high performance department. You’d want to give the new people time to build trust if the offer wasn’t amazing

Ridley is not elite.

That’s likely how Essendon will value him.

Of course they will because they gave him an absurd contract.

My guess is this will get done for a pick between 20 and 25. Whether that is to Brisbane or not now will likely be the question.

I dont think brisbane care or not if he lands there. He's a nice to have, not a need.

Yeah there’s no chance of that.

Any team that gets him is either going to have to value him close to essendons asking price or be desperate enough to overpay and hope for the best.

Essendon likely valuing him as someone who has never missed a game through injury.

Brisbane likely valuing him based on him never having completed a full season and having played 19 games in 2 years.

The contract allows Essendon to over value I suppose.

I dont think ive ever seen more embarrassing trades be flaoted than what i have read Essendon fans concoct on Twitter today.

Its also pretty clear that Essendon supporters don't understand the rules around free agency.

You aren't wrong Ridley is an absolute gun player, but yes, he obviously has injury problems. How you "value" that I'm not sure. We aren't going to what he is worth injury free because he has rarely had that freedom.

But it's not worth Essendon giving him away for a pittance. We have tonnes of room in our cap space, last I checked we are barely making the minimum cap payments so it's not like we are sweating bullets at the deal Ridley is on.

Put it this way, if he does get traded, the value will be closer to what Essendon want, than what Brisbane would want, or he simply will stay put and try and work through the injuries.

This part is the kicker though.

Essendon of all clubs are not strong enough off field to deal with disgruntled players.

If Ridley wants to leave bad enough, he will get out, and it wont be for what Essendon want back.

Players have way too much power unfortunately.

I'm not sure what you have read but Ridley is contracted until 2029 rofl.

this has nothing to do with Free Agency whatsoever.

There have been plenty of players who are told stiff shit you are not going anywhere. Ridley hasn't even formally asked for a trade yet, so i don't think he wants out that bad....

yeah, players usually get what they want but Essendon aren't going to let Ridley go, who's contracted until 2029 unless we get a good deal out of it.

We put him up for grabs to any club and create a bidding war we say to Ridley "You can leave but it's on our terms to where you go you don't get to chose which club"

Time for clubs to take away that power from contracted players

This isn't the NBA..........AFL has rules that players have to agree to their destination club in trades.

Im completely across free agency and who is contracted to when, but i feel as though the "essendonedge" instagram page doesnt.

youd have to link an example so not sure

Who are the first round players Brisbane have gained through the NGA?

Name one?
Sam Marshall just last year lol. And Blake Coleman in 2020

Even without considering Annable, Brisbanes academy has still delivered more than just about every non-northern academy

I don't think either of these things are characteristic of any particular supporter base so much as all of them, following any sport that ever existed and had trade and free agency mechanisms. The number of Essendon fans' posts that you're seeing correlates directly to your search terms and how you've trained your algorithms.
