Geez, it really didn't work out to be that impressive in the end, did it? This is why waiting for 100+ data points gives us a more accurate picture. You got really carried away when we were 1/3 of the way through the season. Flip a coin 99 times (ignoring the drawn matches) and 56-43 heads/tails wouldn't be a shock. I'm sure you'd be screeching "heads bias!" though.

Rubbish.

The 3 Vic sides with a spot secured in finals received 15 of the +20 free kick counts in that first 1/3 of the season, without it, Hawks, who look like finishing 8th, likely wouldnt be in it and the other 2 wouldnt be top 4.
Squaring it up playing bottom 8 sides doesnt balance the advantage those 3 clubs received early that has artificially shaped the 8.

Spin it any way you like.

Your results: 56-43-3

Entirely unremarkable. To think you spent several months working on this as well. Kind of embarrassing.

Strap the tinfoil hat on tighter next time and try again.

Working on it, like I read the stats, count between 1-9 each round and write a few lines.
Its a tough gig but someones got to do it to keep you cheating Vics honest.

Hopefully next year you end up with something more remarkable. You ended up delivering a poor case study that has no real utility for the field going forward.

You've devoted more time today to this than I do on any given week.
Whats more embarassing?

51 seconds. Still you.
And to think, you could have spent that time booking a holiday after your finals nemesis' Brisbane and Freo send you crashing out in straight sets.
Ol' man Fages looked pretty happy to book a matchup with his bunnies in the first round.

The umpires who fixed the Crows v Pies game got rewarded, so probably not.
FWIW we did get the rub of the green in round 23.

But you must have a short memory.

You are aware that the AFL issued an official apology, not once but twice to the AFC for 2 blatant wrong umpiring decisions in 2 separate Collingwood vs Adelaide games a couple of years ago that directly affected the result of those games (both at the MCG and both won by Collingwood by under a goal) ?

Was it your opinion then that the umpiring for those games were fixed? Or because Collingwood won there was nothing to see?

Perhaps when the AFL apologises twice to your club for blatant wrong umpiring, then maybe you have a case.

Let’s look at Collingwood’s games in those first 8 weeks…

GWS won the free kick count in a landslide and the game

Collingwood beat Port Adelaide by 90 points, but won the free kick count by 1, yep, that 1 extra free kick would have made a world of difference

Collingwood beat Sydney by 5 goals, don’t think those couple of extra free kicks would have made a difference

Beat Brisbane by 50 points, but won the free kick count by just 2, yet again I’m not sure 2 more free kicks gets Brisbane back in the game.

So after 4 games v interstate opponents, Collingwood won 3-1 free kick counts for a combined 0 free kick differential and an average winning margin of 57 points and a loss by 52 points.

Yep, the umpires are the difference in us finishing top 4 or not…

Funnily enough the biggest differential we had was against the Dogs, yet if the Dogs had won that, they’d be playing finals and an interstate side would have missed out…

Now Geelong and Hawthorn on the other hand, go for it. Fair umpiring v Geelong and we win by 5 goals, same goes for the game v Adelaide 2 weeks ago.

Seems Collingwood the Victorian side was dudded of top spot.

Funnily enough the AFL also admitted the umpires made multiple errors in Adelaide’s favour in the last qtr in 2023 when we managed to win a thriller despite their attempts to get Adelaide over the line at Adelaide Oval.

Seems to be a common occurrence of bad umpiring in favour of the home team at Adelaide Oval.

Free kick counts in our games
R0 v Sydney +2 won by 20
R3 v GWS +1 won by 12
R5 v Port +9 lost by 30
R7 v WC +13 won by 50
R10 v GC +4 lost by 7
R11 v Bris -10 lost by 33
R14 v Adel +2 won by 3
R18 v Freo -5 lost by 13
R19 v Port +7 won by 38
R21 v Adel +1 lost by 14
R24 v Bris -3 lost by 10

Our 4 big differences were in games that wouldn't have changes the result. Most of the other games there was barely anything in the free kick count

Why do Crows fans keep posting this?

The AFL acknowledged a missed free to Dawson in round 15 2023. Now you can hang your hat on that if you like, and ignore the blatant throw from Rankine that set up the final goal - which is the only reason the game was that close in the first place.

What is this second mythical game you’re referring to? I’ve seen it posted a lot - it simply didn’t happen.
