As I think I’ve posted earlier in this thread, AFL Umpiring underwent a significant and in my opinion negative regime change just prior to Covid and combined with that it’s never recovered. A bit like the standard of long form cricket batting skills, the pointy end is reflective of what sits below. Tried and tested systems discarded for a new age. A totally flawed system but ultimately no one cares because it’s not important enough in the scheme of things to demand change.We saw the most blatant throw on the weekend, people sitting at the back on the grandstand enjoying a beer and pie saw it clearly, we have FOUR umpires out there and not one of them picked it up. Sometimes you have to wonder.
