Umpiring 2025 Umpiring Trends

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

We saw the most blatant throw on the weekend, people sitting at the back on the grandstand enjoying a beer and pie saw it clearly, we have FOUR umpires out there and not one of them picked it up. Sometimes you have to wonder.
As I think I’ve posted earlier in this thread, AFL Umpiring underwent a significant and in my opinion negative regime change just prior to Covid and combined with that it’s never recovered. A bit like the standard of long form cricket batting skills, the pointy end is reflective of what sits below. Tried and tested systems discarded for a new age. A totally flawed system but ultimately no one cares because it’s not important enough in the scheme of things to demand change.

So the AFL has obviously ticked off the one sided umpiring in Adelaide’s favour as those umpires have got 1 of the only 2 games with any meaning this weekend, Bulldogs v Freo.

Just further proof it’s AFL endorsed corruption.

Peak umpiring.

Duursma gets a free for HTB against Motlop. Ball spills free and a player handballs the ball back to Duursma to take his free kick.

Ump calls "play on advantage".

I'm fairly certain the player didn't even handball it to him. Fairly sure they tossed it to him.

Could be wrong though.
Duursma flat footed and walking back to the spot as it was called advantage as well.

We had two shit teams plus the worst of the available umpires last night.

Did not beat the umpire last week though calling no ruck for st kilda three times and then playing call on when the saints player rucked anyway.

Tonight's trend is get the Pie$ into the top 4.

I was especially impressed when the Melbourne player took on the tackler, got caught and dropped the footy, play on and 3 seconds later htb against Collingwood player with no prior…

Then next contest Melbourne player caught with footy, no attempt then throws it away, play on…

Awaiting eddiesmith view - if your impartial and involved in umpiring this is embarrassing

It is embarrassing how much they don’t want Collingwood to win big.

Perhaps you’re ‘impartial’ 🤣🤣 view can explain how Gawn throws Maynard to the ground 50m off the ball and gets a free kick?

What about Pickett’s trip on Quaynor?

I dont think the game has ever been in worse condition from an umpiring perspective. Every decision is a grey area that could go either way on any day. So much inconsistency, just a terrible product to watch overall. Add in random suspensions based upon the key issue at any point in time and this game is a clusterf

If they wanted Collingwood to win so badly, they might try paying a holding the ball against Melbourne…

It’s embarrassing that this is the panel they’re giving 2 games to this week…
Lol, after a season of being crucified by the Umps Port suddenly got a 33-16 count in our favour, in a game we won by 4 points, and they squared it up a little late as it was even more lopsided.

And you know who benefitted from those two wins?
Your mob.

But im sure you'll say they did a complete 180 for Boaky and Ken, and not to benefit the big Vic club, lol.

Or instead of to benefit Collingwood, they did it so the final game of the season is not a dead rubber…

But yeah, you’ll claim they did it for the team who they pay more free kicks against most weeks, including last night and the week after the most lopsided umpiring performance against them…

Do the umpires get sacked for fixing the the Port v Suns game?

Like they actually cheated to fix the result.

Do they get away with it? It's the AFL so probably yeah.

For the first time in forever, the media is boldly calling out the umpires for poorly umpired games on a regular basis. Has the AFL relaxed their "unwritten" directive or do they actually approve pending an overhaul. Alternatively the media may have discovered that it's good for ratings.

The umpires who fixed the Crows v Pies game got rewarded, so probably not.

And those same 4 umpires see Freo come to Melbourne in what was basically an elimination final and win the free kick count and the game.

Matter of fact, this so called ‘Victorian bias’ sees all states and territories represented in the top 8 (Assuming Gold Coast don’t have the greatest choke in sporting history and lose to a VFL reserves side)
