Jabba73
Hall of Famer
After 40 seasons of existence, it would be very surprising if this league of loose rules and general shenanigans continued to live up its original lofty standards and goals.
Like all great empires, a rise to the top is inevitably followed by a fall from grace as political manoeuvring, a yearning for power and the loss of empathy for others causes what was once great, to fall into ruin and eventually cease to exist.
As we celebrate this milestone event, we need to take time to ponder where the current SFA sits in this cycle of self-destruction. It would be very instructive to examine this round of match ups to see if we have begun the slide into oblivion.
It is very hard to hold up a mirror to yourself to check for signs of deterioration and whether they are present or not, without having anything to give context or quantify the decline. A simple measure of standards would be the avoidance of what is commonly known as the 7 deadly sins. Whilst this list has its roots in religious beliefs, it applies equally well to a society (even a fantasy one) and there is no good reason why it cannot be used to examine ourselves objectively. The sins are commonly listed as Pride, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath, Lust, Greed and Sloth.
There is ample evidence of all 7 sins in the league and whilst there is some cause for concern, the alarm bells can be stilled for a while longer, as the sickness has not overtaken us all. We are able to compare and contrast using each match up for Round 6 to provide both a word of caution and some hope for the future of the SFA.
This matchup is best characterised by the sin of SLOTH.
Sloth was originally used to describe a dereliction of religious duties, now it more often used to describe a lack of interest in and usually a habitual disinclination to exertion. Not only did the Wonders fail to land a rookie this season, but they also cannot even be bothered finding an opponent for this round. It will come as no surprise that this matchup is best described by the sin of sloth.
With a current record of 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss, the Wonders FFC are hellbent on sleeping their way to the top.
AnUltimateRessie tipping you wont bother to lodge a team this week, not surprised.
