Okay. We've probably had enough of a free for all.

There are still forum and site posting guidelines, and you will abide by them.

A few seem to be of the opinion that now is a good time to have a crack at moderators or moderation. I'd rather like to discourage that impulse so I'm going to make it explicit: a moderator on this forum is a poster like any other, and can share their views and have free use of the forum like any other. If you feel a post breaches the rules report it; attacking a mod for their posting or objecting to a post purely because a moderator said it is grounds for an infraction and some time off.

From here, if you cannot speak civilly, you will not be allowed to participate.

Thanks all.

Did he? Interesting take you have.

“I can't STAND the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a made-up, new-age term, and it does a lot of damage. I much prefer the word compassion, and I much prefer the word sympathy. Empathy is where you try to feel someone's pain and sorrows as if they're your own. compassion allows for understanding." -Charlie Kirk
I mean... didn't notice a whole lot of compassion or sympathy in Kirk's traditional shtick either.

compassion = com (with) + passion (suffering)

probably closer to empathy that his definition

And as I keep saying, Should we accept the status quo on the deaths as a result of Alcohol? Are the deaths resulting in alcohol worth it? Should me mock an innocent person for being bashed to death by a drunk because they thought we should allow alcohol knowing the troubles it can cause?
Surely you're not pretending alcohol-related deaths (perpetrated by the drunk on someone else, important filter here as I noted previously) in Australia are the same level of problem as gun deaths in America?

Some stats here would probably be good.

I'm not minimising it

It's not a good thing and the calls to retaliate against the left are evidence of that

I'm saying there's a lot of downplaying of what he actually was and it's in part to justify the calls for retaliation against the perceived enemy

Also a lot of acting like this is the only politicial violence happening right now
You are still doing it. Talking like he some how deserved it because of his opinions is wrong full stop. If you can’t see this you are ideologically captured. He was a debater, he fostered communication as a way to understand the opinions of others and to play out conflict of ideas not violence against humans. I’m pro Palestine / anti what Israel is doing very strongly but such a move is ending the “jaw” and moving to war (reference Churchill). When people are unwilling to hear the voices of others they are pro conflict. Personally I don’t even think this was done by the “left” but the response from radical small l liberals is self consemnation. To say “ he’s looking up at us” he died for what he believed in , he was a hate monger and I’m happy, is all over social media and it’s worse imo than the actual event.

For older people on this forum, when did politics veer down this Right v Left culture wars hatred?

I know there has always been a working class v business tension but 20 years ago politics was pretty dull and focussed on economic policy, tax reform, with a sprinkle of foreign policy. Most were largely disengaged and carried on their lives free of this current shit

I'm Christian and almost everything in chapter 20 of Leviticus is antithetical to the recorded teachings of Jesus of Nazareth.
But it is completely consistent with the teachings of Republican Jesus of America.

(Which is another reason why they hate Catholics and all that commie Social Justice stuff)

I’m not gonna dance on someone’s grave but Kirk basically said empathy was somehow a bad thing. To honour his values would mean not offering your condolences to his murder.
He was an idiot ( CK)but that feels kind of like Israel saying “ Hamas made me do it “ which is the dumbest thing I ever heard. Cos someone else makes a mistake doesn’t mean you are excused when you make a mistake. You’ re responsible for your own actions and integrity, and using someone else’s wrongs to justify your own is silly.

jumping off roof??

dunno

He may have left the gun on the roof. They haven't given any details where they found it, just that they had.

Hitler, Hamas, that Israeli defence minister, the Ku Klux Klan, Thomas Sewell(the Neo nazi NZ guy, not the black professor), anyone in SE Asia whenever they come into contact with Chinese, Indians or Koreans, etc.

Plenty more examples out there.
Your mask is slipping a little here. You might want to fix it up.

So Kirk just has “his opinions” but everyone in SE Asia is racist?

I think this says all we need to know.

Just as an innocent pedestrian supports being killed by a drunk driver because they didn’t want alcohol banned.
Did this pedestrian say that dozens of children being killed by drunk drivers each year is worth it to protect our rights to drive and drink alcohol?

I hate Trump and religion so it is easy to guess my opinion on Kirk but the people getting a thrill from his murder shows how sick people are.
What would your reaction be to a Hamas figure being assassinated?

People on the right are so obsessed with Transgender people. It's actually quite weird tbh. There's clearly a few in here that are in that category.
Over on the US Politics - Conspiracy board its full of them, including claims from some who believe the attacks against democratic pollies earlier this year was actually the lefts fault, and floods were caused by the government and chem trails.

George bush prepared the ground , Obama made it happen.

Because you can see a bulge in his jeans and he has a flat chest. I know you desperately want the shooter to be a women or transgender for some twisted reason but it's a longshot bro.
It was a joke mocking Kirk's transphobia. I thought that was obvious.

It's likely to be a man, as statistics say almost all shootings like this are carried out by men. Until 'they' are in custody there's no way to know for sure.

he ditched it. they found a rifle with writing on it on the campus
The supposed writing on the bullets turned out to be standard manufacturing markings and not any sort of message.

people are still going to die and families destroyed.
You are making my point though. You know that people die and are killed because of it and are just too weak to say you are willing to accept their deaths. Sorry can’t be bothered looking up stats but I’d be interested to know how many life’s are acceptable to lose for you?

I just finished reading this about Left v Right / Democrats v Republicans. Recommend.

'Republican lawmaker supports call for statue of Charlie Kirk in the Capitol, equating him to Martin Luther King Jr
Representative Andrew Clyde, a Georgia Republican, said on Thursday that he supports his colleague Anna Paulina Luna’s call for a statue of Charlie Kirk to be placed in the US Capitol, since, he told a reporter, “we have a statue of MLK in the Capitol, don’t we?”
Hmmm... I bet I can find another link between Charlie Kirk and the legacy of Martin Luther King Jnr.

Sep 10, 2025

...At a December 2023 political conference hosted by his Turning Points USA group, Wired magazine reported that Kirk decried not only Martin Luther King Jr., calling the civil rights leader "awful" and "not a good person," but also the Civil Rights Act of 1965 that outlawed discrimination on the basis of race, colour, religion, sex and national origin, and prohibited segregation.

"I have a very, very radical view on this, but I can defend it, and I've thought about it," Kirk said. "We made a huge mistake when we passed the Civil Rights Act in the 1960s."

Kirk argued the statute had brought about what he said was a "permanent" bureaucracy meant to promote diversity, equity and inclusion...
