Thanks. I think I had in my mind an earlier version of the rookie list rules where only a proportion of the salary fell outside the cap. There is still a live Wikipedia page referencing outdated rules. Is there a link to the actual updated regulations? I've been searching but can't find one.

You’re partially right and it does mean it could help us reach the cap floor - only the base rookie list contract value is excluded from the cap so if we added someone like Robertson to the rookie list as a SSP on more than a standard rookie contract, the excess would count towards the salary cap

Same would apply if we moved Barnett to the rookie list, the amount over a base rookie contract would be included in the cap

Would love the ability to prelist our NGA players in 2026 as well but as mentioned I think that will fall victim to the AFL’s desire to tidy up the 2026 draft
The ability to pre-list our 2026 NGAs seems like the most significant concession being discussed.

Given the quality of that crop and the current projections for Kehn and McGlade... It would be like giving us a decent first and second round pick outright (noting that draft ranking for under-agers almost always change dramatically).

On one hand... It would be an easy way for the AFL to give us the assistance our dire list clearly needs without the bad optics of handing over priority picks.

But on the other hand... As you said... It would further compromise the mess the draft has become. Which the league says it wants to untangle.

After a 5 minute tense and comprehensive meeting it has been concluded the the AFL WILL NOT be offering any assistance to the West Coast Eagles football club.
Their poor performance over the past several years has been a result of their own poor on field efforts, management, drafting and coaching.
So under the AFL guidelines, which we slightly just amended, there is no justification or reason to reward them with any assistance.

same, thanks keys

Why we wouldn't request Indigenous Cat B spots and instead ask for extra Cat B spots in general is beyond me. One has more chances of success then the other

Fact we are too stupid to see such a obvious path says alot about how dumb we are

Okay, I must be dumb - what’s the obvious path here? Clearly I’m missing something in what you’ve posted

Indigenous player numbers are down and AFL want to fix that issue. We promise to take indigenous players with our Cat B spots. The players we want with Cat B are indigenous in any case. We solve two problems at once including one the AFL has earmarked already

Champion, Evans, Williams, Walley as our 4 indigenous Cat B players. Banfield and Livingstone as two other cat Bs

Highly doubt that it would have been either tense or comprehensive, I would imagine that the Victorian viewpoint would have been an emphatic - "no Fu(k Em" ......... next item move on.

Swann at press conference will be like

Swann - "Brisbane have been able to climb up the ladder without any assistance from the AFL. We would like the Eagles to replicate that formula rather then ask for priority pick access"
Reporter - "But Brisbane received a priority pick which was traded for Charlie Cameron"
Swann - "Oh thats not the same though so doesn't count "
Reporter - "How is it different"
Swann - "It's just the vibe of it. The vibe makes it feel different"

Not to put a dampener on things, but I thought the meeting was today and the announcement was tomorrow?
They'll try get it leaked prior to the Brownlow so that it gets swallowed up in the media cycle with the count, then the winner being on every show/radio tomorrow, then they'll role into the grandfinal.

Last thing they want is a clear window where it gets discussed and vic media spend their time shitting on the decision to help a non-vic team.

Are we sure we actually submitted the request for priority assistance? The email submission is still in someone's Drafts folder, isn't it?

If that's the case, you'd have to think the package is good?
