It happens so regularly. Swan was clear best player in 2010, followed by Hodge. Swan got shaded by the undeserving Judd, and Hodge got SFA. Both had far less impressive years in 2011, but Swan won, Hodge wasn't far off the mark. Umpires are almost entirely incapable of picking actual best players, but will predictably give undeserved votes to players they dudded the prior year. It's honestly time to strip them of the award, and have some kind of Norm Smith style jury voting.

Umpires seem to love contested ball beasts who put their body on the line and clear the ball from clearances. Rowell is probably a couple more votes ahead than what.most expected so far but he definitely would be a worthy brownlow winner.
