My concern is if we trade up this year like we did last year that will be 6 first round picks used for three players. And one has already done a knee.

If the trading up gets us Copper Duff
Tytler then we've potentially replaced TDK. Hayward replaces JSOS. You can't replace Curnow. But I'd rather a bunch of committed players than a guy whose going to sook the whole year. Yes, we deserve more for Curnow but he's slowly but surely becoming damaged goods à la Merrett.

It's a fact harry. Clubs are balancing salaries between years all the time. Players don't pay back the extra the got front loading if the leave early. Same as clubs don't pay the missing part on a back ended deal when a player leaves. The club they're moving to either accepts the contract or the previous club keeps paying them partially for the remainder of the contract (Collingwood with Treloar and Grundy).

Dattoli is just a preference of mine I must say. Like the kid.

Carlton will want Sydney’s 2025 and 2026 1sts, plus Hayward, plus plus plus. And so Carlton should. Charlie at his best is worth a lot, I’m certainly not saying he isn’t.

Carlton cannot lose from this position. A reset was always on the cards (believe Voss said a reset of sorts was coming). Keep Charlie and he plays 2026 then wants out at the end of the 2026 season, or we put Sydney’s first and our TDK pick to the eagles for a top 2 talent, bring in hopefully Hayward as well as someone else (if Carlton get their way). Then put their 2026 1st towards securing Cody.

Copper duff could be a bust. No guarantees. We've traded out three first rounders for unproven players and weve lost our best forward and ruckman. It's a massive list management risk for a rebuild.

You have been running with it all off season, so good call if it sticks.

I think it's going to be one of those trades where on the surface it's going to look like 2 firsts + Hayward which would be a slight net loss technically, however, if we get in pick 2 for picks that would have been likely swallowed up anyway.

Going to be interesting, we know we liked Hayward before he resigned too, so that could be what the media is running with without any new knowledge.

Hayward is interesting - he’s played 19,22,22,23,21 games the last 5yrs, that’s solid & he’s more than just “handy”.
Dattoli could be a player, swans get a lot of things very right when recruiting, 26 1st if it’s top 12 is useful & pick 2 gets us someone very good.

We aren't running away screaming we won the trade period but I can live with it if it means everyone left is on the bandwagon.
