Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

The point is don't let your A graders become free agents. Then should they choose to leave the club can get maximum return.

Think about this...

If we finish bottom 4 next year, Walsh gives us pick #5 as fa compo.

If Walsh wants a trade, he won't be going to a cellar dweller, it'll be Geelong/Hawks/Pies etc.

They won't have a pick even close to #5 to offer us... so what maximum do you think they'd give?

I'd take pick #5 next year over 1 mid-late 1st + a 2027 1st.

No takers for the King, sobering for ego.

I don't know why, but this post sounded like you were about to launch into a haiku.

No takers for King,
How sobering for ego,
Will Curnow stay put?

No thank you to Will Hayward. We made a big offer to sign him last year before he re-signed with Sydney. So why should we entertain trading Charlie Curnow for a player who didn’t want to play for us not that long ago. We should only recruit players who are all in on playing for our club.

To be fair, he signed when the Swans were absolutely flying...

Probably list spots.

Right now, after losing 2 players that we wanted to keep (only 1 of which would have been foreseeable at the time of the mid season draft), we have 4 list spots.
We also already have 3 players who have requested trades to Carlton.
Let both the Irish boys go.
We aren't serious if we're expecting anything from them, would much rather we took a speculative chance on some homegrown prospects

What St Kilda doing are interesting. They’ve paid under the cap in recent years, and now banking the underpayment, so they’ve now got over the cap to spend on big names and become an exciting destination club. I hope it fails, but I credit them for having a go. Blues are stuck in no man’s land mediocrity and overpaying average players.
Who are these average players Carlton have overpaid in recent years?

Matty411 put up this trade scenario the other night, which now seems fairly reasonable if we're trading with Sydney.

If I'm reading it correctly:

Curnow >> Sydney >> Dattoli, Florent, pick 10, 2026 1st

Dattoli, Florent, Chesser, pick 2, 2026 1st (Syd) >> Carlton >> Curnow, pick 9

Pick 9, pick 10 >> WCE >> pick 2, Chesser

So we get two of our rumoured trade targets completed in this package, leaving Buku and Reidy for late/future picks. Florent becomes the steak knives, Swans would appear to be happy to move his contract on. The possible hiccup is that Swans end up top 4 with Charlie next year and their future 1st becomes diluted.

We give up a bit, but I reckon our list management team - including Wright - would love to get another high draft pick again this year, as well as Dean and Ison.
I'd rather a scenario where we keep 9 (will be 10 in order for WCE to have pick 2, by the way), and throw WCE Acres, McGovern, and a future 2nd.

So in broad strokes it could be:

Lose:
SOS, TDK, Curnow, Acres, McGovern, 2026 2nd
Gain:
Dean, Dattoli, Hayward, Chesser, Ison, pick 2 (Robey?), pick 10 (Marsh, Cumming, or Greeves?)

But we probably won't have a live pick in the first 45 for 2026, just Walker.

"Sydney Swans forward Will Hayward has signed a long-term contract extension until at least the end of 2029.

This guy? Who signed a 5 year contract less than 15 months ago?

Do you mean like Charlie signing a 6 year deal 15 months ago?

You don't need to explain what you're trying to say. It's clear. It's just poor analysis.
So many ways to look at stats, when I looked at it, the seasons where they played the most number of games together were our most successful by a long way.

Hayward is a 185cm forward, but not a tall.
Interestingly their young actual tall Buller has requested trade to Collingwood.
He's definitely not a KPF but he plays taller than he is. Good overheard and beautiful set shot. Been a massive fan of Hayward for years. The bad thing about the deal being floated is the 1st round picks will likely be one mid-1st rounder and probably a late one as I expect Swans to improve next season.

We'd probably want to bundle the F1 this year for a predicted top 4 or 5

It's 2025.

This sort of thing is common. Yeah, WE don't like it because we're old (school), but there's nothing wrong with it.

It's the off season for him. Has mates in most other clubs who they don't associate with much during the year.

Hanging out with oppo players should have ZERO bearing on whether we trade Charlie or not.
Yeah, no. I'm not talking about his social life. I'm talking about him openly discussing the possibility of being traded to that club, and the player from that club (ie Warner) talking 'matter of factly' about it on radio.
Here's the quote but I watched the SEN video which i cannot find:

I think that might be the move. Would probably prefer to target a player from another club with the first but not sure who is up for grabs atm. If we move up will be interesting who we go for in the draft. Personally not a fan of using a top 3 pick on a ruck in CDT.

I was more thinking Swans F1 with our F1 for WCE F1 = Cody sorted (or something like that)

I would prioritise that over getting ahead of Dean I think if we had to choose

Yep that could also work. But I guess in that situation we would be drafting Cody with likely Pick 1 or 2 next year if Eagles finish bottom 2. Would mean we aren't really getting any benefits of him being a F+S. And if he ends up being a later pick we might struggle to find points for him if we want to take someone else with a top 2 pick

That's pretty much the way it is from next year. Imagine having to live trade for pick #2 on the clock or miss out
