Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

So let me get this straight.
We hold him to his contract and continue to pay him, use up a list spot, and not benefit the AFL side in any way? So we’ve get a disgruntled player hanging around the club, not playing, getting paid more than most of the team, and this will fix the culture?
Where do I sign?
Yes, because if the club does not put a line in the sand with its players and contracts, the remainder of the good players of the list will request high salary, long term contracts and break them because they know Carlton will buckle

You’re not wrong, some bad misses and ordinary decisions by SOS:

2016 - SPS, Fisher, Macreadie
2017 - Dow, O’Brien
2018 - Stocker, O’Dwyer
2019 - Philp
It’s harsh to point at the 2015 AFL draft given he got so much right there, but imagine if SOS had picked Dunkley instead of Cuningham (Dunkley went two picks later with our original pick which we traded to the Bulldogs for Pick 12 which we used on Charlie)

So we're losing Walsh for only one first round pick. This is another horrible list management call. So we've lost all our A grader except Weitering. Future looks bright

You don't chase a 27 yr old hbf with your top pick when you're not in a premiership window...

We should have used that pick to chase someone more suitable for our list at the time...

We were 6 goals up in a prelim a couple of years later and It was one of the worst drafts of all time.

At the end of the day, Charlie is an amazing footballer on his day but he’s isn’t exactly clutch or overly committed to us.

Where the club is at right now, smart money is to cash in on max value now.
Yes it hurts but u don’t get something for nothing & to get the biggest return for a gun player is to trade them when they still have great footy to play & be heavily contracted.
It’s not smart to trade a player for under’s when you have 4 years contract leverage.

We shouldn’t fold like a deck of cards on the assumption that it’s all down hill for Charlie.

Especially for picks in a year as impacted as this one

If he has a strong year with us next year & he still wants out, teams in the window in need of a key forward will come for him as hard as ever.

Even better - next years draft includes young Mr Walker & will be less impacted by Northern Academy Disease.

Then there’s Butters…might be nice?

I hate to be the one to break the news to you, but King is reportedly on $1m per year until 2032.....
Interesting point made by Caro on 3AW today. She said to Leigh Matthew’s do you think the huge salary being paid to TDK meant they then had to pay NWM an additional $500k to keep him.

Leigh agreed.

Ok. So we NEED a top 10 next year.

Cody is no.1 material.

So need to trade for a future first with a team who will very likely be bottom 8.

West Coast, North, Richmond, Port, Melbourne?
If we get a future pick from Sydney or Gold Coast as a component that's good enough, we'll likely be trading some players out next year to make up the gap.
Huge, huge no to Shiel.

Why would you?
Talent, athleticism, skill, affordable and we have cap space for at least the next 2 years?

Who would you suggest instead?
Why would we give up anything of value for Dylan Shiel?
DFA... so no?

The saints are going all in at playing finals next year. There’s no other explanation. They’ve just signed a bunch of B graders that make them better, but don’t really put them in the upper echelon of teams. It’s as odd of a list strategy that I’ve ever seen
Crazy Sossy...!

I honestly don’t think it works that way. That’s over simplifying it.

For those saying Walter isn’t athletic enough and is too slow, check out who just won the sprint.
Wasn't the best example of the spectacle, but anyone who thought he was slow in a straight line has never seen him play.

Agree, at times it's like people think these negotiations are like a cheesy B grade sports show where people slam a contract offer on the table and walk out, or give someone the tough love and suddenly everyone falls in line.

In reality whatever happens now will have little to no bearing on the next negotiation.
