Lachie Neale is a star, and was second in the voting for NS last year. Highly influential then as he was yesterday in that second half. For whatever strange reason you don’t rate him, what about Jordan Dawson pick 56, or Nasiah Wanganeen at pick 11.nah, Lachie was not BOG in my mind, last year or this year
Lachie played well without playing the first half, not sure what that means.
Maybe he likes the opposition to have the sting out of the ground in them because they have played a half before hand.
I reckon they might have stumbled on something with him and play him as a sub again sometimes.
Will Ashcroft is a superior player to Lachie in my book, from and including last year
I do not see Lachie as a barometer for the Lions which is why they won without him in finals this year
Brisbane Lions as a midfield have a lot of depth, Dunkley, McLuggage 4 goals, Bailey(should have been a heap of goals) all played roles including Levi
Raynor and others. When Neale retires I do not think it will be a great difference to this group
I'll be absolutely staggered if WC don't take Sharp.
Is that Matty Clarke leaving draft night after passing on yet another midfielder?

Nah that’s Matty after picking Sonsie when everyone else knew he was softer than butterIs that Matty Clarke leaving draft night after passing on yet another midfielder?
I am seeing some worrying signs that he’ll be available for you at pick 3.
I do like to lurk on your board just to see if there's any inside gossip. Someone's going hard with Duursma and CDT.
Now that would make me very happy and I dare say the bummers as well!
Agree. Teams need some players who are quick runners, but speed of ball movement is more important. McLuggage, Neale, Ashcroft are not particularly quick, but if you look at their speed of hand, vision and decision making to get it to the outside to players in space already moving, makes for quick ball movement. Lalor isn’t quick either but with power, poise and vision he can target handballs to runners on the spread. With 15 possessions early this season he was often our most damaging player. This is more correct than people realise.
The efficient speed of ball movement will outpace any player.
Think people forget that Grlj looked quite comfortable, 18d 6 marks & 5 tackles on debut & 15d 3 tackles 100% efficiency when he lined up for our VFL side off limited preparation, probably only trained a couple of times with the group.Picking Grlj at 3 or 4 gives me anxiety. Sam Cumming whilst he had an injury, his performance in SANFL men’s speaks volumes. 17 and racked up 22 and kicked 3.
Dyson Sharp whilst his numbers were low I’ve seen enough from his last two years playing as a forward see he has what it takes. I know some people like Tiger Faithful on Instagram was calling him a bust but he didn’t play middle time.
Dawson and NAS are better players than Neale, but Neale still is a good player.Lachie Neale is a star, and was second in the voting for NS last year. You said it was “certain” that you don’t get the highest standard players with picks beyond 4.

Neale is in a very good team
I just think Grlj would be available at any of these picks, which we could get by sliding down from 4. So why not get something extra in the meantime? Bombers and GC likely to have all of these at some point.Think people forget that Grlj looked quite comfortable, 18d 6 marks & 5 tackles on debut & 15d 3 tackles 100% efficiency when he lined up for our VFL side off limited preparation, probably only trained a couple of times with the group.
Not saying there aren't others who are rated higher than him but when I look at the make up of our list and what we're lacking Cumming & Grlj fill those gaps quite nicely and don't make us too top heavy when it comes to big bodied mids as we've currently got Smillie(195) Lalor(188) McAuliffe(187) Hopper(186) Ross(186) & Taranto(186). As we all know we lack that outside class that can hurt teams with a combination of run and carry plus ball use once we get the ball to the outside so for mine that is the area we need to address this year to balance up the list before the transition from the experienced players to the younger guys really kicks in from 2027.
Don't get the fuss. A HBF that has no outstanding traits. We can get them from the VFL if we need oneDoes X.Taylor have Wanganeed-Millera traits?
- good mark
- quick
- outside run
- if he's a HBF /QB type who can mark, run gets plenty of possessions, have short stints in the midfield why not him for pick 4 ?
Or is he a KPB ?
exactly, shows how irrelevant the Brownlow isBloke’s won two Brownlow medals with a bunch of guys competing with him for votes…
Won't lie I have looked at a deal where we trade our 2 picks to the Suns for their first 3 picks in the draft assuming they get 7 for Flanders, which would make it 6 7 & 13 currently, but there is no way I can see Blair doing that deal.I just think Grlj would be available at any of these picks, which we could get by sliding down from 4. So why not get something extra in the meantime? Bombers and GC likely to have all of these at some point.

Would be a surprise if they drafted a Melbourne kid. Goes against their recent history. Sharp and Duursma my tip.Looking very closely at Robey as well.

Hard no to Greeves for mine. Hopper and Tarranto are getting killed on the spread and Greeves looks like a Mack truck compared to them. Honestly if we draft Greeves our midfield will be more one paced than CarltonsI didn't look at yesterday's game and think speed in the midfield was a massive factor, I wouldn't say they are the quickest midfield groups. Looking at CBAs, Holmes, Smith, Mullin, Atkins, Danger are about as quick as Ashcroft, McCluggage, Neale, Dunkley (played with grade 3 syndesmosis), Rayner. Ashcroft tested an elite 20m sprint, Holmes is quick. The rest you could call it even. The key really is no one is glacially slow.
The game had a huge number of stoppages. As we know the stats were literally even at half time. Brissy got on top by being far cleaner and far stronger over the ball in the second half. Their smarts and ability to exit cleanly as a group was elite and it had more to do with being great in the clinches than anything to do with speed IMO. 11 stoppage goals to 4. They were also massive with their physicality (see Rayner). They bullied the Cats. Smith is pretty quick and has amazing running power but could you say he was strong over the ball? Remember Dunkley shoving him into Row Z and running away with the ball? Look at his one handed effort prior to Neale's goal. Not strong enough.
Not saying speed wasn't and isn't important. You definitely need it in areas. Charlie Cameron broke the game open. Bailey found a lot of space. Lohmann too. And your midfielders can't be too slow. I just think they don't need elite speed. It's why I'm pretty keen on Greeves, even though I understand the similarity to Smillie. Sharp I can't say I would have too many complaints about. Robey looks to have the right qualities too as long as he can definitely be a midfielder at AFL level.
What the hell are you on about? I was at the game, and the minute Neale came on, he had a big influence on the outcome. Was absolutely fantastic in the half he played, barely wasting a possessionNeale could have greater impact being a poor mans Ashcroft by being the sub coming on in the second half, which in effect was a tactical masterstroke
Greeves would comfortably beat them in a head to head sprint but that's not really the point. He is clean and a fast decision maker, as well as being a very good kick. TT and Hopper are fumble city and can't consistently rely on them to hit targets. They are the masters of winning first possession but losing the clearance.Hard no to Greeves for mine. Hopper and Tarranto are getting killed on the spread and Greeves looks like a Mack truck compared to them. Honestly if we draft Greeves our midfield will be more one paced than Carltons
Essendoom also has their natural pick 4 and could end up with pick 8 from the Hawks for Merrett. If the Suns get pick 7 for Flanders then they could well trade either that or 6 for more points, they're gonna need a bucket load of points if they want all of their Academy kids, Uwland, Patterson, Addinsall, Coulson, Murray and Collins along with a few others, so they're not in a position to trade up, more likely trade down for more points. The Don's will probably get 19 (Band 2 for Draper) and also have picks 22 & 25, those 3 picks could get them pick 7 from the Suns, so they end up with, 4-5-7 & 8 (before bids and compo) Pick 6 will be chewed up by bids which will mean that they have 4 picks in a row.I just think Grlj would be available at any of these picks, which we could get by sliding down from 4.
