So toenail63, given we now have pick 1 and not 4, who are you taking?
Chloe Bown, I was pretty much sold last year when she only played 1 game repping Vic Metro, the better bottom agers usually play multiple games, and you see how they go against the players in the draft class above and that’s where you see the standouts that raise eyebrows when you have to be told that they’re bottom age.

Was disappointing she didn’t play more games as was a BOG Candidate but hard to feature in a midfield that had Greaves, Poustie and forwards like McDonald and Brisbane. Importantly she backed it up this year, I didn’t think she dominated as much at Nats this year, but still a clear standout against her peers and had showed last year she can play up a level,

It’s a shame they don’t get to play against the woman at some stage as some highly fancied at the top end of this draft I feel AFLW is a big step up, but not worried about that with Bown she’s well equipped to handle that and still has plenty of growth which is exciting.

If we could find a Jade Ellinger type that would be awesome.

I was watching Brisbane pretty closely this year and her elite line breaking speed is just what we need.

Pretty sure she went undrafted in her year and was signed by Brisbane as a rookie.

Thanks for that.

I think a McKenzie/Brown mid/forward combo and throw a Conti/Grieves in there as well and you have something pretty solid to build around.

Wow

We swapped a lot for pick1 - 4 and 22.

Means we have no pick in the second round
Well, not as it stands now, but we still have something coming back for Egan, and whilst it might be say pick 38 (atm), with the Academy picks it will settle around 30 perhaps, somewhere in the mids of a bunch of players pick 20 to 40 who toenail63 seems to think are quite even, not worrisome whether late 2nd or early 3rd and a worthy pick.

Don't forget we did also get Pick 56 and a future 3rd tied to GC, probably as cushions for not bidding on GC Academy prospects.

Kate McCarthy was like that early day Lions, Ellenger was showing signs early wasn’t she, copped the wack for her discretions and is now one of Lions best movers of the ball. They’ve got some speedsters in their team.

The draft is an interesting one because line breakers often catch the eye but also low possession getters and more speculative so probably if can get to a later pick worth it but also may not drop too far.

Someone like a McNamara at Melbourne, Suns have a couple, of course they do, or Sophie Eaton has wheels and like McNamara also the footy skills but she was one of the sliders I thought could factor into a pick 22 but also could go with somebodies first rounder.

Then you get into the athletes who have speed but is a jump too far and you end up with a Beruldsen.

Might be one like the rucks to trade in this type in preference and extract from another club in the future.

Think the deadline for trades is this Wednesday 4pm so a bit to play out.

I'd be surprised if there aren't further changes to our squad.
Same, priorities.....

I truly hope we don't get sucked into Mueller for Egan - would rather take on a kid with foot skills at this stage.

Kate McCarthy certainly caught the eye early days. If she took the pill with open space in front of her no player in the league was catching her. She was lightning quick. I think her speed probably bought her a few more games than she should have played because she just didn't get it enough to be really damaging. Had her best years early Brisbane when she could be the cream on top with plenty of good players around her. When she went to the Saints the expectation to impact games was greater and she just didn't quite get there although injuries and concussion issues didn't help.

Not sure McNamara gets the credit she deserves at Melbourne.

Watching her highlights, she gives me Poppy Scholz vibes around the 50m arcs both defensively and forward. Can't really assess Bown's midfield vision but her numbers are great.

If they re-do the 2024 draft a few years down the track it would not surprise if Poppy was picked #1 so comparison between Poppy and Chloe is one I'd be pretty chuffed about.

Her midfield vision is great, she's strong, not really tested brilliantly for speed over 20m but drives her legs with determination, and I agree she has that vibe and presence that Scholz has. She also gives me Cotchin vibes the way she beelines the ball willing herself in driving to contests, to either win ball, or to pressure the ball carrier, and is rarely beaten.

Highlights don't show a players work rate and that's the reason her numbers are so good, not only in gaining possessions but also in metres gained. When you see a player post these numbers regularly you know they have great vision and game sense.

Sierra Grieves would be proud, both were Vic Metro B&F winners, both co-captained their state, both named Captain of the All Australian teams. Both named MVP's of the national championships. It's almost like Chloe saw what Sierra did last year and took it on as a challenge. They have a great bond from last years comp repping Vic Metro together, as she also did with Zoe Hargreaves who was also a team mate.

Would you describe Bown as "ready to go" or are we expecting too much as usual. We still need to replace Egan with a workhorse type.

Grieves would still be a season away from regularly being combative. Would love it if we tried Lynch in there, whether she could be durable enough......

Chloe similar to Sierra will be ready to go, both endurance players, both super high work rates, but will need to get a couple of preseasons in to build on her tank to the level that she will dominate like she did in her U18's years. Grieves the same.

Chloe is strong and contested so ready to go at matching up against the hardened players going around. Will stand up here.

Mon, Ellie, KB up forward will all look after her, with them and others doing the heavy lifting won't need to overload her and she'll get enough game time into her to impact games is the way I think it will go, but won't really know until Rd 1. :)

You mentioned if we would use picks 58 and 76 in the main draft, will be a no at this stage but also list change dependant.

Opening Thursday, ending Friday will be the last chance for clubs to sign delisted players.

We had two retirees in Tessa Lavey and Jodie Hicks, and also delisted Charli Ryan. Grace Egan's trade cancelled out by trading in Georgia Stubbs. We only have the 3 list spots available but may change by Wednesday's cut off for delisting players.

The other picks 1, 38, 40 and 56 we may use only two our pick 1 and pick 38 as the minimum requirement and after this we can pass on 40 until the pre-season draft, optional but at this stage we only have the 1 preseason pick if just picking the minimum 2 picks.

There are always a couple of players in mind that you wait until trade period is over before you delist just in case you are able to trade them and get a pick back.

2025 AFLW Draft Dossier: The top 35 prospects, whispers and scouting notes

The AFLW draft is fast approaching and while Gold Coast Academy prospects are tipped to dominate the pointy end, there’s still plenty of stars on offer around Australia. Get all the intel and full profiles on this year’s top draft prospects.

Eliza Reilly Code Sports

A compromised draft pool with little depth beyond the first round? We’ve heard this one before.

This year’s AFLW draft shares remarkable similarities with last month’s AFL draft, with Gold Coast Academy products set to dominate the pointy end.

Four Suns are viewed as top 10 prospects, headlined by No.1 pick fancy Ava Usher, but as many as 10 could make their way onto AFLW lists.

However, there are still some exciting players on the open market – from gun midfielders to running defenders and goalkicking key forwards.

Clubs believe the top 10-15 will pick themselves but it’ll quickly become a needs-based draft after that.

And with plenty of picks swapping hands in the trade period, it’s set to be an unpredictable draft night.

Here are 35 of the top prospects to watch ahead of the draft on December 15.

Link to article for comments on each player.

I had 32 names of theirs, probably name another 12 or so in the mix, especially with later rounds more names may be thrown up that could get drafted here, including mature age recruits.

Pie 4 Life Wouldn't you consider her a bolter? Really came on this year? Why not pick her with pick 4?

Also Q. Stasia Stevenson, my mates niece. Any chance to get drafted? Did well at Box Hill this year.
She is a bolter. I’m surprised she’s going to be taken that high but she’s a gun. I would have loved her at the Pies with the top 10 pick. I asked myself re: Pick 4 so all I can think is the Giants must be keen, or one of the teams who also jostled for Pick 1.

Stasia was unlucky not to to next year. She’s definitely amongst my 10 mature-agers/non-top-agers to go.

Cheers, thanks for sharing the info.

Not saying Johnson is a bad pick, but we could have gotten her with pick 4 without having to trade 22.
Geez.
Ranked 13 in the Rookie Me rankings.
