Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

I interpreted that more as in they recognize he's a contracted player and that they can't get him for unders....
Yep, he’s contracted to CFC.
Be realistic firstly under these circumstances and then drop the hammer with your creativity and ability to make it happen, willing to sacrifice your own quality, if you want the trade to eventuate.

I interpreted that more as in they recognize he's a contracted player and that they can't get him for unders....

And that's exactly what he meant too...

Then he said if they can't match it, it won't happen.

We know Charlie is keen to get there...

We don't know how keen Mackie is to make it happen though... based on his comments, I'm not so sure he is that keen tbh...

Like I said, who gaf where Charlie "prefers" to go...

There are 3 clubs in the race... we either take the best offer or we keep him.

Cats are clearly the most unlikely to satisfy at the trade table.

I still think Swans and GC are the best bet. Just my hunch, GC will be very tempted to bring in a big name and the AFL will be keen for that as well. Ignore their posturing, they won't offer up a couple 2nd rounders and a fringe player, they'll come up with something decent.

As for the Swans, well there's talk they've already put 2 firsts and perhaps a handy player on the table... If GC are serious, they'll have to beat that at the very least.

Cats I imagine GW will play the most hard ball with... their draft picks are obviously not as valuable as what Swans or Suns can offer, so the player/s they need to include will really have to be best 22 players... not gonna happen.

Even if Charlie stays now, he’s lost the respect of the supporter base and I’m not sure what he can do to win it back.
Very simple answer to this. He can work hard over the off-season, and kick a bag of goals in 2026.

If he does that, he will be forgiven very quickly.

Don't worry, when the trade doesn't eventuate and he remains a Blue, he'll come out with some fluff piece about how much he loves the club and supporters... then he'll request a trade again next year...

No way do several clubs put forward trade bait for us to interview so that we can have a think about what deals we would present to Charlie.

That would alienate all the players that are being dangled in front of us.

Sit downs with players wouldn't happen until a basic deal has been negotiated.

Remember when Brisbane did this shit with Rischitelli and Bradshaw?

Was one of the linchpins to ****ing their club for years.

Im not so dark on our small/medium forwards

Defintely some who shouldnt be there which means the decent ones (moir and williams nad motlop (maybe)) are left to carry the rest (I think evans and F Young will defientely become more than serviceable)

the EJ situation really pisses me off as he can defintely make a difference

Let's go over them, I'll give my take:

Williams - only there because he can't cut it as a mid (which is what we brought him in for) and he can't be trusted in the back line. He has a quality kicking ability and at times can create a head ache, but that's getting rarer as each game passes. Turning 32 next year, he's not going to be part of a future flag tilt.

Moir - loving what he offers and is producing. Definitely one that will be part of our future. He'll get more consistent as he gets more experience. Solid kicking at goal ability too.

Motlop - had a poor season. He showed that he lacks leg speed, smarts and at times effort... the club has put some faith in him (although, it's more probably because no other clubs showed any real interest in him) so he has 2 seasons to lift. He has age on his side, he has talent... let's see if he can put it together.

Fogarty - trade him. I've had enough. He's a ghost. He's supposed to provide relentless tackling pressure... I didn't see it this year. Missing set shots from 20M out on a slight angle (yes I know he's not the only one) but at 26 yrs old, he should have the level head to nail those EASILY. So he's not kicking anywhere near enough goals, he's not applying enough defensive pressure, he doesn't offer us anything up forward. Happy with a 3rd round pick if we can get it.

Evans - showed some really good signs late in the season after copping a fair whack on here most of the season. He's not a world beater, but he deserved his extension and is still quite young too so, lets see if he can perform more consistently next year.

White - showed promising signs but overall, I'm not sure he'll be on the list for much longer. He just goes missing too much imo, doesn't kick enough goals.

Durdin - forgot about this one... another disappointing season... how many before we pull the pin and delist/trade him? Offers nothing more than the others I listed.

Lij - see ya later mate. Sucks but it is what it is.

One glaring thing missing from all of them is, they don't kick enough goals. The other issue is, they don't apply enough pressure in the f50 either. Moir is the only one I can see being part of a premiership side in the future. Outside chance - Evans.

Mannagh and Miers on each HFF would be handy.

Outside of Rowell, Anderson, King, Miller and Witt’s that’s the only A graders they have. On potential Humphrey, Uwland, Walter, Read and Mac Andrew. If we are trading an A grade Charlie Curnow for an A grade GC sun in has to be 1 from the first list plus draft capital or two from the second list and draft capital.

Humphrey AND Walter or GC can GAGF.

They won’t trade Rowell, Anderson, King, Miller or Witts IMO.

Don't assume that the "A" grader we are chasing will come from the club Charlie goes to. So many scenario's to play out and Cats wouldn't throw hat into ring unless they think they can believe they can get it done

This has been months in the planning and we need numerous picks for F/S, Academies and other traded players like Khamis, Cheeser, Reidy, Florent and a couple more.

Flanders is a no. We won't even offer him a contract

Deep down we know the Charlie deal could unlock numerous options for us. As an example could help us get Walker next year along with Top 3 pick this year and a couple of good role players. Not to mention room in SC to go after Free Agents over next few years

Told by so many people at weekend that Charlie has made it clear he doesn't want to go back.

Wright is looking at this as a 2 year list balancing exercise with most done this year. He rates our youth especially with Jagga, Dean, Ison and Walker being added. Middle tier is his biggest focus

Not only do they not kick enough goals but none of them really win their own ball. Not in the way you can trust Brisbane's guys to get in there to do that. Williams (and Lij in 2024) the only one who you can trust to win a contest somewhat reliably. Nod to Frankie who will bust a gut and showed at the end there's more there than we may have thought but too early to say "consistently."

Fogarty might be 26 but he plays and looks like a bloke in his mid-30s. Love him for what he gave us the back end of 2023 but he's a shadow of that player. The game has passed him by.

I'm hoping against hope that with a good forward coach and better systems/structures that it's not too late to make something out of Motlop and Durdin.

Tell me there's a rort going on without telling me there's a rort going on...

F me, Geelong are really endearing themselves, aren't they? Baz is looking more and more like a w***er every day. Thinks he's teflon (maybe he is for now) but it'll catch up to him and I don't think he'll be able to pull any excuses when it happens.

Now I hope more than ever we just don't even pick up the phone to Mackie and Geelong. Charlie playing there would make me furious.

---------------

On another note, Mal Rosas has preferenced Sydney. I wonder if this opens the door for one of the inferred Campbell or Hayward to come to us after all.

yep. far easier to mould a deal to exactly what you want with three (or even more) clubs in the swirl...
